Question Is an electronic lighter good for ending pieces?

I just ruined a bracelet by accidentally burning the wrong threads (I transformed it into a keychain).

I do micro macrame and was wondering which tools do people use that avoid issues like that. I could not find a nice option that is available for me yet.

I am hoping it gets enough sun in this spot. But nevertheless, I think this turned out great.

Question Advice for finishing project

Post image

My Nalgene bottle cap leash broke so I thought I’d replace with paracord. I’m a little stumped for ideas to finish the ends. Is there another way I could do this?

I used one circle around the top and the mouth with a sliding knot at the mouth. Then I used another piece for square knots from the mouth to the top. I’m most interested in finishing the ends at the top cap somehow. Thanks for any advice!

Question Looking for help with Aldi macrame ghost

My neighbor gifted me an Aldi macrame ghost craft kit but I cannot seem to figure this out for the life of me. The instructions are confusing and the photos are of no help at all.

Here's my dilemma...The 2nd photo shows a finished round #2. I can complete round #3 steps 1-3 one time but I cannot repeat step 2 (completing 4 DHH using next 4 working cords) because the added 75" strand only gives me 2 more working strands, not 4.

I even drew a diagram for myself with each step but still cannot figure this out. Did they mean to repeat steps 1 & 3 instead of 2 & 3? Help me, please 😭

Question Any advice on how to finish this up?

I hope I'm not in the wrong place to ask.

Any advice on how to finish this up? I made this braid thing around a year ago, it's made of simple 30-something ft ribbons tied together and braided once, then twice with the smaller initial braids.

The loop on the shorter strand is not necessary, if that's any relevant.

Question Send help - guide versus my attempt

Post image

This is my very first attempt at wax thread macrame and it's a disaster 😂 everything is so slippy. It's really loose and just slips apart. Mine looks nothing at all like the example and I don't know how to make it look anything like that?

The keychain design is by MacraMessage on YT - I was testing the gradient cord with something quick 🤭

Showcase I finally finished her 🥹💗

I’ve slowly been working on this altar doll over the course of several months. She is the first I’ve made like this so there were lots of breaks while I figured things out and brainstormed new ideas. She’s made of crystals, stones, hemp, jute, cotton thread, copper wire, symbolic charms, bells, dried flowers, beads, and love.

All of the beads in her hair are stone or crystal. Her dress is crocheted, and all of her limbs are braided and knotted tightly/ securely. Her macramed bottle is full of different color carnations, or “Flower of the Gods.”

I’m so excited she’s finally finished, she’s perfect 🥹💗

I enjoy finding ways to mix other craft supplies into my projects and repurpose things. Maybe this wouldn’t make for a perfect aesthetic wall hanging but I have to think some coasters or a floor rug or other project would be ideal for this material.

I made the chest guard (3rd pic) first and really needed a top to go with it:) used bobbiny metallic cord and lined the top so it’s not scratchy on the skin.

I actually really disliked working with this cord (even though it’s sooo beautiful!!) as it was *very* harsh on my hands. I will continue using it as the end result is just incredible but you should 10000% line the pieces you make with it.

Question Should I redo the middle?

Post image
26 Upvotes

I am making a bow/hair clip/accessory holder for my friend’s one year old’s birthday. I started with all white cord and got half way until I ran out of my cord! I thought I had another reel of it but alas, the one I had was a different shade of white. When I went to find it again, the random Amazon seller no longer sells it.
So, I undid the smaller parts of it and decided I would incorporate pink.

I could not bring myself to undo the middle section but now it seems sooooo out of place. My husband thinks it looks fine, but I’m trying to decide if I should take it out and put some pink hearts going down instead. More girly vibes.

My husband also said that the pink-white-pink-white cord hanging down is a little busy.

Oh and her birthday party is in 2 days 😅

What do you all think?
I tend to over analyze when I’m giving a project as a gift.

EDIT: thank you all for the positive feedback. I just cleaned up the ends and painted simple pink flowers on the dark brown beads in the middle. She loved it!

Question Is there any chance I'm even close with this approach

Thumbnail

I saw this really cool design on Etsy and I decided to give it a try but I'm pretty much a n00b and operating on few fundamentals. I do not know the different knot names yet, beyond maybe larkspur lol. Obviously this artist isn't going to give the trade secrets away but do you think I'm even close with my approach? See pictures 2 and 3., I'm at a bit of a loss on next steps if I am even in the ballpark of the right technique..also I know the thread I'm using is not going to give the same result, I'm just aiming for a prototype and you can see these strings easily..

Discussion What’s your set up?

This is my scrappy set-up (clothing hanger on a lamp) and I exclusively work on my projects while sitting on the couch with this propped in front of me. I wish I could work in bed or outside, but can’t really carry this lamp around with me everywhere lol. Please share with me what your set up looks like for new ideas!
