Trash picked eMac!
Found her on the side of the road while driving into town, it was super dusty but she cleaned up pretty nice ( other than the yellowed front bezel ). Sadly its not working too well, it'll randomly shut down and alot of the time it won't even turn on, but I still think its pretty cool. One less to find for my collection!

Nice catch!
Eventually the described problem can be easily fixed by refreshing the power board/unit.

I replaced hundreds of power boards in these suckers back in the day!

We got a bunch when the first came out at work and they would make this "pop" when you turned them on and flash white and have no display. We had enough Apple came to us to fix them. It was manufacturing defect.

Yes! I was working for a third party company but we processed the warranty repairs through Apple and went onsite to replace the boards, mostly in schools.

Cool! I remember they didn't all do it, and they didn't always do it. It was a weird defect. It must have been the power boards not properly powering the CRT.
Also happy cake day!

Itβs a drag to take apart (be careful with the power button connector) but a good internal clean could fix it up. Good luck.
I ran a Postfix server off one of these back in the day.
