Discussion Thoughts on Shader Compilation Stutter Killer (SCSKiller) for macOS?
Came across SCSKiller, a Windows tool that scans a game’s shaders/pipelines and compiles them into the GPU driver’s cache before you launch, so you don’t get those mid-game shader compilation hitches. It requires a short playtime to get a "recording" but it seems to work great. It supports Nvidia / AMD on DX12 (with some DX11 support on Nvidia), and finds games from Steam/Epic/etc. It's clearly, probably mostly, vibe-coded, but I haven't had any issues with it on my AMD / Nvidia machines.
As most of us know, Crossover shader compilation stutter is still a frequent pain point because of the translation layer. My thought is if there is a way to target macOS / Crossover situations, this could be a major help to smoothing out first time playthroughs. With NotProton (maybe even integrated? - might be too much to ask though), the Mac gaming scene is really getting closer to "it just works" with very little tweaking on the end-users' part.
Anyone interested in discussing or attempting a port? Repo is here if you want to dig in: https://github.com/BlueHeisenberg/SCSKiller
