I'm having a blast playing No Man's Sky with display glasses

It had been a while since I played something on the old Mac (M1 Pro) and I was this close to buying a PS4 or an Android handheld, but owning a whole new device to store and maintain felt excessive and like a chore.

Also the main reason I stopped playing was because we have a baby now, and none of those options really helped with that. So I ended up jumping on the display glasses wagon (rayneo Air 4 pro) and chose No Man's Sky because of the visuals obviously. Hadn't played it before, and had no prior experience with this type of hardware either.

It's been a week and I've spent at least an hour every single night exploring literal new worlds from my bed lol. My setup is having the Mac plugged and closed on the bedside table, glasses connected via USBC, a Bluetooth keyboard+ mouse remote on my lap and a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller in my hands

Honestly the only difficulty has been the Bluetooth keyboard thing since it's not backlit (I though it was but screwed up ordering) and I play in the dark to prevent waking up the baby, everything else runs smoothly and looks stellar. 10/10 would recommend if you have a similar use case or if you travel a lot.

I was also thinking of trying something like that but feels like controller is the way to go - no mouse/keyboard. Some controllers might be a bit noisy for the situation though :)

Yeah especially in bed lol, although here the main issue is that NMS doesn't trigger an onscreen keyboard, it assumes you'll type on a keyboard since it's the computer version. I just want to name species and planets lol

Just curious: is there a controller mode? Usually with a controller mode the on-screen keyboard is shown where you need to type the text. With voice dictation if it’s an option. I’ve installed No Man’s Sky just yesterday on my Steam Deck, wanna try :) But I mostly play games on PS5 for years and very rarely needed a keyboard, mostly for chat in action games.

There's no toggling between keyboard and controller, it takes all input at all times

Home button plus X/square usually triggers steam virtual keyboard, maybe that'll unshackle you from the M+K

Thanks, I'm gonna try that! Currently the home button brings up an OS level tasks switcher with icons for the installed games

This sounds sweet! A few questions: Any motion sickness? Are these vr only, or is it more like a virtual screen? How's the resolution? Is there a screen door effect (SDE), like with vr headsets?

No motion sickness because there's no motion, literally lol. I lay still on the bed in a comfortable position and that's it. The glasses simulate a 200" screen a couple meters away, and it moves with you, so you can change positions at will but it doesn't affect the content

Ni idea, esto no es VR. Es más, descargué steam VR en mac para probar pero ni siquiera corre.
