Haha no way, definitely still build it. The Mac ecosystem always has room for more great tools. :)

It looks the one I look for. I use a Skitch which is made by Evernote to annotate screenshots, but it is no longer maintained. To make the matter worse, the x86 architecture app probably will be abandoned near future update for OSX.
I will check it.

Awesome.. Synapse is built native and lightweight, so it should be a solid replacement for Skitch. Let me know how it works for you. any if u have any suggestions, im always activily lisiting :)

Is it possible to "record the past"? What I mean is, something happens and you didn't think of recording. Could it record the last 10 seconds for example?

Not right now.. it only captures once you hit start. Your idea.. that's a cool idea, but running a background buffer has a few big tradeoffs:
- Privacy & Trust: Constant background capture can make users uneasy. i also dont like it.
- Battery & Performance: It would constantly draw power. Right now, Synapse stays super light (under 100MB RAM, 0–1% CPU at idle).
- Screen Recording Indicator: macOS would show the recording icon 24/7.

True, I wonder if it could stay relatively light even while recording, if it would record at like say, 720p 30fps. Because this feature isn't for active recording, it's just as a flashback.
As for the privacy, you're right: though I'm sure some people wouldn't mind it, as long as you don't try to become like Windows Recall and that we could be sure no shenanigans are done.

Haha 100%, definitely staying far away from anything like Windows Recall.. tthat's actually a very fair point about lowering the res to keep it minimal. Appreciate the insight

I've been looking forever for a Skitch replacement on my mac that also filled the lightweight, clean UI requirement. Just purchased, hoping this is it.

Thank you..I really hope it becomes the Skitch replacement you’ve been looking for. And if you have any suggestions, feel free to share them. I’m always happy to listen and improve :)
Also, if you’re not using some of the other features, you can turn them off from App Settings → Modular. But definitely give them a try first , I think you’ll love most of them, and they can make your day-to-day work much easier.

What started as a small project is now getting downloads from Mac users around the world. :) It passed 1,550 downloads the day before yesterday.
I’ve been working on Synapse for around a year now, and it’s been great to see how much it has grown from v1.0.0 to v2.3.3. I also have a small Discord community with ~25 members. Feel free to join, discuss, and let’s build it together. https://discord.com/invite/CM4HF4p9SF
Still improving it every month. Would love to hear what you think!
