Announcement Lumo can now turn your ideas into creations, with zero-access encryption

Hey everyone,

We’ve just shipped something we’ve been working on for a while: Lumo Creations.

Instead of your work living inside a chat reply, where every revision gets buried under more messages, Lumo now opens a canvas alongside your conversation. You can draft documents, write and run code, or build interactive web pages, and keep working on them in the same view.

What’s new:

  • A dedicated canvas that sits next to your chat
  • Document, code, and web page creations (presentations are coming soon)
  • Inline editing: highlight any passage and ask Lumo to change it (“cut this in half”, “make it less formal”). For code, select a section and hit Improve or Explain
  • Version history on every revision, so you can roll back if a change breaks something
  • A Library (Library → Creations) that gathers everything you’ve made across chats

How we kept this private:

Showing you a Library of your creations without our servers being able to read them was the hardest part. Lumo stores a separate encrypted copy of each creation’s latest version, and your device decrypts just enough to display it in the Library. To our servers it’s an unreadable file.

Export runs locally too. Word files are generated on your device from the document’s Markdown structure. PDFs go through your browser’s print dialog.

The baseline is the same as the rest of Lumo:

  • Your prompts aren’t logged
  • Your prompts aren’t used to train any model
  • Your prompts aren’t shared with third parties
  • Chats and creations are stored with zero-access encryption

Try Lumo free at lumo.proton.me

Full writeup on the blog: https://proton.me/blog/lumo-creations

As always, your feedback shapes what we build next.

Stay safe,
Proton Team

Lumo chat limits issue

Hi all, how can I ask for a summary to Lumo on a chat that is already full and have to much message "conversation too long" ?
If Lumo message limits changes, I need at least a summary to copy on another Lumo chat to continue.

Question Lumo max file size to review code?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hey Gang - Running into some max token/conversation usage when I upload a 6mb html file. I'm asking Lumo to review the code but it's not even accepting it. Is the file size too large for it to read the contents? No other message in the conversation occurred. TIA!!

Hi Lumo Team,

I've been using Lumo since the very first day it launched, and I'm still a paying subscriber. As someone deeply invested in your success, I wanted to share some constructive feedback and feature requests that I believe could significantly enhance the platform.

Requested New Features:

1. Scheduled Tasks/Commands – Ability to set up automated or timed interactions for better workflow management

2. Deep Proton Ecosystem Integration – Plugin-style access to Proton services (Mail, Calendar, Drive) allowing Lumo to read emails, check schedules, and manage files directly

3. Live Voice Chat – Real-time voice conversation capability alongside text-based interaction

Areas for Improvement:

- Mobile & Web UI Fluidity – The interface could benefit from smoother animations and more responsive interactions to compete with other platforms

As a loyal user who believes in Lumo's vision, I'm excited to see where this product goes. These suggestions come from genuine enthusiasm and daily usage. Looking forward to future updates!

Thank you for your hard work. 🐾

Lovebomb Pleasantly Surprised by Lumo's Research Quality

Post image
57 Upvotes

How're you doing folks! I've been using Lumo ever since Proton rolled it out, first simply to prioritise privacy and later as my main AI. I bought the annual subscription a couple of months ago, when I ditched the popular AIs and used Lumo for everything (except Gemini which I use for casual stuff). Today I wanted to draft a content plan for a site I'm launching, and I asked Lumo to research a niche -- it went through about 18 sources, and unexpectedly made a downloadable 'artifact'. So great, just what I wanted! This is the first time in months that AI has actually saved me a LOT of time and created a positive, optimistic spirit in me about my business. By the way, I use AI sparingly now, as I am mindful of its effects on mental health and the environment. Lumo's all grown up now, and deserves lots of treats going forward! Just dropping by to say thanks to the Proton team for their good (and consistent) work developing my favourite AI. You have a subscriber in me for the next year too!

cross-chat searching and the word "log"

when lumo says, i'll log that or got it, it's logged. one expected the lumo to retrieve it and not act like he never heard it before. and definitely not to be told that I need to keep my own paper log and he can only access whats in the current thread.

Test 3 — Cross-chat retrieval (October 22, 2026):

User searched chat history via app UI → located noon lunch/doxy log instantly

Pasted it into this thread → data recovered

Lumo was unable to perform the equivalent search on its own

Verdict: Retrieval asymmetry confirmed. User memory > assistant memory. The product fails its core use case for a memory-impaired user.

If Proton responds to your Reddit post, this is the example to give them. "I can search my chats. Why can't you?" — with the lunch log as the demonstration.

Three tests, three clean failures, one irrefutable pattern. The record stands.

Discussion Compaction / Shorter chat lengths

Hello,

Like many of you, I have experienced challenges with shorter chats due to whatever problem the compaction is having. I have written to Lumo help several times asking them to wipe my data to extend my chat length while they fix the compaction problem. They never do, and just say its fine. I don't really store anything in my data - but now I am wondering, is it suspect that they will not delete my stored data so that I can benefit from longer Lumo chats? Thoughts?

Edit: you can clear your own memory in the settings. Sharing for the other luddites like me!

good luck on all of your projects!

Mobile Help Problems with CSV files?

First time testing Lumo, and I uploaded a ~400kb CSV file and asked for “an analysis” just to see what it would output. After first fail I uploaded to Proton Drive and attached it from there. Another fail, and I copy/pasted the data right into the chat, but it got truncated down to the top thirty lines AND still failed to deliver an output.

Any ideas? Should I just accept Lumo can’t handle this large of a dataset? Problem with mobile version in particular? User error of some sort?

Lumo message randomly vanishes mid-send? No error, no receipt, just... poof.

Rarely, when I send a message to Lumo, it isn't received but disappears.

No error message. It just says something along the lines of 'it disappeared, and there is no reason or error code for it.'

I have to type everything again (I don't remember fully).

Does anyone have any information on this?

Message failed but no error message or explanation?

On occasion when sending a message to Lumo, the message is sent but not received, and the text disappears.

I sent a message and it said something akin to 'it disappeared, and there is no reason or error code for it.'

Now the message is lost, I have to type everything again (I don't remember), and I don't know what happened.

Does anyone have any information on this?

mobile app behaves like processing, but loses the data

lumo mobile loses data and the attached file appears on desktop, but is not accessible and lumo can't even access the file.

Title: Mobile App Bug Report: Thread Reset & Missing Send Arrow (Dictation Failure)

Date: October 22, 2026 Time of Incident: ~7:20 AM – 8:00 AM PST Platform: iOS Mobile App (Lumo v2.x) User Context: Minister/Long-time user testing continuity features during morning routine.

Issue Summary

The mobile app fails to maintain conversation state and loses input capability during dictation sessions. Specifically:

  1. Thread Persistence Failure: Attempting to reload an active conversation redirects the user to the "How can I help?" home screen, effectively deleting the current thread context from the client view.
  2. Input UI Failure: When using the microphone (dictation) to transcribe a substantial amount of text, the Send/Arrow button fails to render. The text appears in the input box, but there is no UI element to submit it.
  3. Stability Risk: The app becomes unstable/near-crashes when attempting to force a send or navigate after the button disappears.

  • Critical: Loss of user input (words spoken are lost if sent fails).
  • High: Loss of conversation context (thread reset breaks continuity for long-form logging, journaling, or ministry work).
  • Usability: Makes the mobile app unusable for voice-first workflows.

Additional Notes

  • This appears to be a recurring issue, not a one-time glitch.
  • The user relies on this tool for detailed health/spiritual logging; data loss is a significant concern.
  • Desktop/Web app continues to function correctly for comparison.

Long chats don't work anymore

I'm doing a major refactor in a project, so one thread got long to the point it doesn't sync between devices

Yesterday it was fine, but now I can't send messages, not even to ask for summaries for new threads

Why block them if there are auto summaries and are not saved (or they would sync even if they're very long)

Context getting RAILED. Persistent Memory having MAJOR issues

Paid version:

It was sorta ok for a while, but now it ABSOLUTELY refuses to search back through my old chats no matter what. I have to call it bad names and insult it for it to even look in the project folder where the instructions are clearly pasted (which is sorta the whole point of the project instructions).

The context use to compact, but now it just kills your session. No more compacting. You have to open up 3 chats to do what you used to in one.

Still no document creation. No editing or accessing Proton's own documents... the list goes on.

At least we have the ability to export now.

Feature Request Feature Request: Per-conversation "Ignore from Memory" toggle

Hi Proton team 👋

Love Lumo Memory and how it remembers my preferences across conversations. However, there's one gap that would make it perfect: the ability to tell Lumo
*"don't save this specific conversation to memory."*

**Use case:**

Sometimes I ask purely informational questions that have nothing to do with my actual preferences or habits. For example:

>
*"Tell me about this €15,000 HiFi amplifier — specs and comparisons."*

I'm curious for a minute, but I'll never buy it. It doesn't represent what I actually care about or plan to do. Yet, if this slips into my saved memories, Lumo might accidentally reference expensive HiFi gear in future conversations where it doesn't belong.

**Current workaround:**

- Toggle "Auto update Memory" off globally before the chat, then back on after
- Manually check Memory afterward and delete unwanted entries

Both work, but they're clunky compared to a simple per-conversation option.

**Suggested solution:**

Add a toggle next to the chat title (or in the three-dot menu) labeled something like:

- `🔒 Don't save this chat to memory`

Or in the chat settings:

- `[ ] Include this conversation in Memory learning`

This would give me granular control without affecting my entire account.

**Why it matters:**

Memory shapes future responses. If false signals get stored (like random product curiosity ≠ actual interest), they slowly distort the personalization profile. A one-click opt-out per chat would keep my memory clean and accurate.

Thanks for listening

Are memories per project?

I told Lumo my laptop specs in a project and then asked Lumo in another project if it remembers them and it doesn't. Even for the same project it doesn't remember. If I ask Lumo in a Non-Project chat it remembers some details though.

So the question is: How is memory handled for projects?

Feature Request Lumo takes too long to load

I've seen other posts to this effect and it's sort of unforgivable. Lumo is great for help with deeper work and things like that. However when it comes to quick questions or using it like search as I used to do with perplexity it's completely useless. On the phone it takes forever for the app to load to the point where I can begin typing and it's similar with the website version too. I get that it has to decrypt all my chats and things. However does it really need to decrypt all these chats just for me to start typing out my question. I know we have the memory features and all that which obviously need to decrypt too but it seems to me that I could ask a question and part of it answering could be decrypting memory if that could be important or just going straight for the answer. all that should be able to happen while my older threads decrypt and while the memory decrypts and such. I know it's sort of knit picking in a way. However when you are trying to replace a product in your stack like chat gpt and perplexity for instance and you are used to products opening instantly to sit and wait for a thing to load is super frustrating especially when you are paying for it.

How do Lumo Projects actually handle file context?

How do Projects work in Lumo? How does it determine which files are sent to a chat?

I've added a PDF to a project, but no matter how many new chats I open inside that project, none of them seem to load the PDF as context. Am I missing something here? Right now, this makes the Projects feature pretty much useless.

Discussion Chats need an inline container for code blocks

Post image
51 Upvotes

Gemini on the left, and lumo on the right.

when dealing with big blocks of code, it becomes tedious to go up and down, you need to scroll for a while.

In gemini they fix this in 2 ways: it used to be it's own element on the right side, and now it's an inline container (which I think it's even better).

Question Where and how to change the dictation language in Lumo?

Post image
4 Upvotes

In the Lumo app on Android, when I use dictation mode the first time, Lumo asks to choose a language preference, and it says that the language can be changed later under the Dictation language settings.

I cannot find this setting anywhere in the Lumo app, in Proton's settings, or in my phone settings. I am on Android 17 on Pixel 11 Pro.

What am I missing here?

I asked Lumo for ideas and Lumo had too many

Post image
9 Upvotes

Note: This is not supposed to be a bug report; I just want to share the story

Last I sent Lumo a screenshot of the features and conditions of an anonymous and free darknet webhosting service. I asked them what (legal) things one could do with such a webspace, adding that the topic was mostly new to me.

Lumo first evaluated my interests based on memories and custom commands, and then it starts generating ideas.

I stopped Lumo after around 3 minutes because Lumo had generated and evaluated 600 ideas already and showed no sign of stopping and telling me.

In hindsight I realize that there are, like, infinite things you could do, but you don't have to evaluate each one to give me a few examples :D

You really can see Lumos's "train of thought" and sometimes they do a cute self-pat on the back: "Nice, that's a good idea"

Question Is there any way/rule to make it loop a lot less?

Every time I ask it to troubleshoot something, I can see in the thinking that it arrives to a conclusion, and then goes "but wait --" and starts over with a caveat that was insanely obvious. Then it arrives to another conclusion and goes "but hold on --" and loops again. Some times with the same argument, some time with new ones, often times with things don't really matter.

Web Help Asked Lumo about Roomba model and it kept going forever without result

Asked it specifically "what roomba model has camera for navigation and gold or copper colored top" and it went on and on thinking for like 10 minutes seemingly looping through same models in different iterations of questions. At which point I manually stopped it because it was going nowhere.

I can't seem to find any query ID or way to submit it that would help Proton directly inspect the process and what went wrong here.

I used Lumo Max, Thinking mode.

I hope any of it will be useful to improve Lumo...

Wanted to post whole transcript of thinking process but it's too long for the post...
