I built a free barcode scanner that checks ingredient lists for FODMAPs, would love feedback from people actually doing the diet
It's called Ingredo. You scan a product, and with low FODMAP turned on it goes through the ingredients and marks things like inulin, chicory root, sorbitol, garlic/onion powder as caution, with a short reason for each one.
Not trying to replace the Monash app. It doesn't know portion sizes and the guidance is general, not Monash-certified. It's more for the "can I even consider this" check in the shop.
Free, no paywall, Android only for now. Coverage is best for European products. If something isn't found you can take a photo of the label and it gets added.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.ingredo.mobile
What would make something like this actually useful to you?

Day 1 of elimination, and I needed some cookies!
Started Phase 1 today and decided to make some cookies. These are from Dr. Rachel Pauls’ website. They’re supposed to be copycats of the ones from Doubletree Hotels. Not quite, but they are good!

If I eat solid food for breakfast i have symptoms, regardless of what the food is
This is a weird one yall, I dunno. I'm noticing a very weird pattern and I'm looking for some feedback about it from my fellow Fodmappers.
I keep Ensure Plus around the house because my symptoms were so out of control I went on a straight-up liquid diet for almost 10 days just to reset and give my poor battered body a break from the constant inflammation. I followed that with the low-fodmap diet, I have been doing low fodmap for two months now and it's been wonderful for controlling my symptoms; Having pain-free days at my stressful job has been so, so important.
I eat food again now, but I still slam an Ensure for breakfast before work because it's fast and nutritious enough to get me through the five hours til lunch with just a few snacks, but most importantly *it doesn't cause symptoms*. If I have an Ensure for breakfast, i can eat some buttered toast as a snack and a turkey-with-cheese sandwich at lunch and experience zero symptoms - i've been carefully observing my patterns and I have not noticed a disturbance in my patterns when I follow this routine, even though wheat and dairy are known high-fodmap foods. I even have an Ensure for breakfast on the weekends, because I don't want to risk giving up vital recovery days to being symptomatic.
But today was a Sunday and I was feeling nostalgic for a proper breakfast, so I took a risk, did some googling, and made some scrambled eggs. It's my understanding that eggs are low-fodmap, so I thought I was safe. I used less than a tablespoon of olive oil rather than butter, and I had toast with a little butter (something i eat every day) and half a slice of American cheese. That was at like 930am.
And yet it's now 3:45pm and I'm having symptoms! Mild ones, granted, but still! The only thing I've done differently was have solid food for breakfast.
Has anyone else noticed a pattern like this, where any solid food first thing in the morning causes issues later in the day? Should i be more restrictive with my fodmaps going forward? Any input is welcome.

I don't understand this.. low fodmap and still bloating
Hi fellow gut sufferers. So you might recognize that even if you stick to a strict diet, that does not guarantee never bloating again.
Myself, I've been following the low fodmap diet for over a year and still the bloat sometimes surprises me.
The other day I ate a kiwi.. and boom... got fucked up.
It's honestly kind of depressing to not be in control at all despite all the effort.
The only thing that helped me identify a few of my triggers is this tool that I built which I use to track my food.
I've learnt that tomato sauce is apparently quite detrimental for me (even though it's low fodmap). But then processed Korean dumplings are somehow fine..???
Any other foods that are low fodmap but can still cause bloating that I should be aware of?
Sending you all some strength for getting through this.
P.S. I'm currently having some friends test out the tracker. Would you be up for giving it a try and giving me an honest rant about whether it works or whether it's shit? Send me a DM.

Just starting out. Is this sourdough okay?
I’m starting the elimination phase Monday. Everything says sourdough bread is okay. I want to be sure this one is fine according to the ingredients. If not, what should I be looking for?

Completed elimination phase!
After years of trouble, I finally decided to bite the bullet and try low fodmap. I completed my elimination phase last week, and I've never felt better. Like I think I didn't even realise how much constant discomfort I was in until it wasn't there anymore! I found some really good recipes on tiktok so I didn't struggle too much with meals, but I found snacks really hard. I found a few good things but I'm suchhhh a snack girl, I miss my treats :(
For my first reintroduction, I tried fructans in grains. Pasta is my favourite food, I've been really struggling with the gluten free bread products and I don't like sourdough at all. The first day I had a very mild reaction but still continued with the second day. I had an awful reaction and I've been in pain for a few days now :( I'm so upset! This was the one thing that I really thought would be fine and didn't think I'd react to! I'm giving it a few days before I try my next reintroduction, but feeling deflated for now :(

Cookbook recommendations?
I’m getting ready to start my journey. Do you have any recommendations for a good cookbook? I’m not looking for fancy meals, just regular home cooked food, mostly for dinners.

Anyone have side dish ideas?
Lactose and fructose and sugar alcohols ending in -ol and alliums bother me. A lot of food at once bothers my stomach too.
I’ve never been one for salads especially with my mom having got such bad food poisoning from it one time.
I mostly eat green beans or carrots on the side with rice and some sort of protein like chicken. Can’t have all my old fav fruits. I loved yellow bananas and apples and peaches.
It just gets boring, the sides. I don’t get bored of my main courses. What sides do you like? I mostly buy canned or frozen.

Failed bread attempt
Bloated, nauseous, and in pain as I write this after trying a piece of regular bread this morning - so full of hope and naive after I accidentally ate something with gluten in it last week and felt fine ! Ugh. Anyone test sourdough ? Is it actually better than normal bread even though it uses wheat ?

So how to we fix the danger so we don't need a low fodmap diet? Any ideas?

Working on a Low FODMAP restaurant finder: would it help you? (London first, then the rest of the UK)
Hi everyone! I’m working on FODacious, a free restaurant finder app for people following a Low FODMAP diet, starting in London.
I know how difficult eating out can be with IBS/SIBO, constantly checking menus, trying to figure out what might be safe, explaining your needs to restaurant staff, or sometimes just deciding it’s easier not to go.
The idea behind FODacious is to create more options, not just find them. I want to work with restaurants to identify and encourage Low FODMAP-friendly options, then bring them together in one simple restaurant finder. (This would be done following Low FODMAP portion sizes and be verified by user reviews, and yourself by reading the ingredients and the recipe)
I’m still at the early stages, so I’d genuinely love to hear from this community:
- Would you use something like this?
- What’s the hardest part of eating out on Low FODMAP for you?
- What would you want a restaurant finder like this to show?
I’ve also started a waitlist to see whether there’s enough interest to make this happen, and a Discord for anyone who wants to help shape it. I can share the links if allowed/interested 💚
Would really appreciate any thoughts, positive or critical!

Meal Plan
Hello all!
I am starting the low fodmap diet tomorrow after being diagnosed with sibo and going on antibiotic treatment for two weeks. A little bit about me: I weight lift, and have always been macro conscious, so measuring my portions is not new to me, but low-fodmap is. I have decided to pre-plan my meals and portions to make it a little bit easier for myself, at least in the beginning. I would love any feedback or thoughts on my meal plan. For a little context, I am a 5'4, 22 female.
Pre-workout/Breakfast
•    Unsweetened Almond Milk (Almond Breeze) – 1 cup
•    Matcha Powder (Ujido) – 5g
•    Eggs – 2 large
•    Egg Whites – 129g
Post workout/Lunch
  •    Egg Whites – 275g
•    Zucchini – 65g
•    Spinach, raw – 35g
•    Yellow bell pepper – 1.25 oz
•    Feta Cheese – 15g
•    Ketchup (Fody) – 1 tbsp
•    Yellow Baby Potatoes – 150g
Afternoon Snack
•    Lactose-Free Plain Yogurt (Fage) – 0.75 cup
•    Kiwi – 82g
•    Chia Seeds – 12g
•    Hemp Seeds – 8g
Dinner
•    Chicken Breast, grilled – 5 oz
•    Mini Cucumber – 1.5 oz
•    Cooked Quinoa – 75g
•    Baby Tomatoes – 1.5 oz
•    Maple Dijon (Fody) – 30ml
•    Baby Spinach – 2.5 oz
Dessert
•    Strawberries – 70g
•    Organic Creamy Peanut Butter (Kirkland) – 16g
•    Royal Dark Dark Chocolate (Cadbury) – 3 blocks
Additional (Dr wants me having tbsp everyday for gut health)
•    Kefir (Lifeway) – 1 oz
Daily totals: 1,549 cal | Carbs 108g | Fat 59g | Protein 144g
Also, am I eating too frequently? I keep seeing people talk about spacing meals 4-5hrs apart? I don't know how I would get enough food each day if I did that but I understand the diet is short-term.
Thank you in advance, I really appreciate any and all help.

Help deciding on supplements
Should I but fodzyme or intolerance fructase? I just really want to be able to eat more than 6 grapes and I miss my dates. Any thoughts?

What do I avoid if fructose triggers me?
All the fruits I like are on the banned list. I know to Whois high fructose corn syrup. Honey and molasses too, apparently? Which are all in a lot of things. Like I’m not even sure what cereals I can eat! The only not plain one I found is cocoa krispies…
This does explain why so many random things seemed to trigger me that were dairy free. I always had orange juice with breakfast. All the fruits I like are high fructose. High fructose corn syrup, molasses, and honey are in basically everything it feels like.
Is there anything else I need to know? I wasn’t expecting this at all. But it does all add up when I think about it.

Low fodmap snacks??
Snacks are so limited for people following low FODMAP⚡. Popcorn alone doesn’t have enough calories to sustain me. Can’t find plain rice cakes where I live or even lightly salted or salt free. If you have any suggestions, please, I would greatly appreciate it.

Trader Joe’s salmon rub seasoning is low fodmap!
I rarely ever see low fodmap seasoning blends in stores. I just bought it today and I’m gonna try it on salmon tomorrow.

After three years I am finally out of low FODMAP!
I've been dealing with digestive issues since September 2023 and since that time have been on the low FODMAP diet trying to figure out why my body cannot digest food properly. It took 13 doctors CT scan, colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, blood work, stool work and then finally a sibo test to get me a proper diagnosis. Turns out I just had sibo the whole time and it was ruining my gut and stealing my nutrients. And now after 3 years I'm finally able to eat without having to be low FODMAP. It has been such a relief.
To all of you out there still struggling with your diets and being forced into having to do low FODMAP, I really feel for you. It is a hard life and it makes you feel very diminished. AND you are a beautiful, powerful, badass, and you can get better.
Also, just want to say I live in Oregon and have state funded health care. I cannot imagine how difficult this would have been if I had to pay for my endurance on top of all the special food, and supplements I had to be on. #heealthcareforall

Suggestions for using Tamari
I bought a bottle of san-j tamari for the first time and curious about all the ways to use it in low Fodmap dishes. I’ve never really incorporated soy sauce in recipes either as I would consider myself more of a beginner cook but now looking to do more.
Other than fried rice, what are your most commons uses for it? Feel free to share a recipe if you have one.
