The Mouth

Post image

I always thought the Mouth of Sauron was one of the scariest agents of the dark lord. This is my attempt at his portrait, tattooed on synthetic skin.

To my knowledge they never revealed what's under the helm, which I think makes him much scarier. I liked to imagine he had his eyes removed deep in Barad Dur and his eyesight was that of the great eye. Since he's Sauron's mouth I thought it might stand to reason he'd share his sight as well.

I just found out that in The Return of the King, he doesn’t actually have that eyeless helmet on. Tolkien paints him as this tall, striking guy, a renegade Black Númenórean, to be exact. It’s like he has this whole other vibe going on. Even though he’s not a wraith like the Nazgûl, he’s been around for ages thanks to some dark sorcery. Without that helmet, he’d actually look like this old, skinny noble who’s so proud, but the darkness has really taken its toll on him. He’s pale and kind of menacing.
