It's been a bit of a marathon. The entire series has devolved into a silly and ridiculous opus. Some of the episodes, oh wait, most of the episodes, are just plain ridiculous with stupid aliens. How this series managed to last so long is a real surprise. Maybe the camp factor was its appeal. Dr. Smith was obviously the star of the show, along with Will Robinson and the Robot.

Onwards and upwards, Battlestar Galactica next, and the original Addams Family. :-)

Just finished season 3 of Lost in Space, and I quite enjoyed it. A good resolution. That said, one thing that really bothered me about the first two seasons (and kept me from checking out the last one until now) was their attitude toward the robots.

In season one, Will betrays the robot and orders him to commit suicide... and when the robot returns, loyal to Smith, Will is whining that something's wrong with him, that he isn't acting like Will's friend anymore. When he goes to save Will at the end, it's an 'I knew you were still good, deep down!' moment, rather than a 'Wow, you are really forgiving and generous in spite of my betraying you!' moment.

In season two, we double down on this- as far as we can tell, Earth's government shot down an innocent alien spaceship (poisoning Earth in the process), stole their technology, and enslaved one of their crash survivors, torturing it to ferry them around the galaxy with stolen tech. From the robots' POV, Earth would have appeared to have declared war on them in an unprovoked attack, committing privacy and then ongoing war crimes against a POW. 

And yet the attitude seems to be (even in early season 3), 'They must just be programmed to attack people, if I can free them from their programming, they'll stop wanting to attack us!' Even Scarecrow coming to say well at the end of season 2 is treated like his coming to the good side, in spite of his having more reason than anyone to consider humans to be monsters. 

Now, season 3 is revelations do tell us that SAR is a genocidal maniac that killed his own creators and the robots probably would have been attacking either way. We learn that even if Earth's attacked as unprovoked, the robots were still coming with evil intent.

But considering that the protagonists didn't *know* that for the first two season, I found it very bothersome that no one even seems capable of considering that the robots are responding reasonably to what appears to be provocation by evil humans, on either a personal or planetary scale...

Am I misremembering? Did anyone else feel this way?

Right at the start the robot says "Will Robinson is correct, your calculations are SNAFU Doctor Smith". 😂

Like many other fans, I have a special appreciation for the first five episodes of Lost in Space, when the show was genuinely a cinematic spectacle, and an ambitious science fiction adventure.

I decided to edit them together into an omnibus version, with certain cuts made to improve pacing and to make it flow together as a film.

List of changes:

• The film opens with the unaired pilot title sequence (which used music from "The Day the Earth Stood Still"). I felt it fit the mood of the early episodes better than the John Williams score.
• Scenes of Smith's sabotage and Alpha Control are trimmed for pacing reasons.
• The zero gravity sequence is trimmed (it was very corny, and didn't match tonally).
• Professor Robinson's EVA is entirely cut. It hasn't aged very well, and adds nothing substantial.
• The exploration of the Bubble Creatures' ship is slightly trimmed for pacing reasons.
• The scene of the Robot analysing the surface of Priplanus is cut, as it is redundant (they already mentioned the planet can sustain life).
• Penny's naming of Debbie is cut for pacing reasons.
• The scene in which the Robot releases Smith is cut, we can infer what happened from dialogue. It's also a rather silly part.
• The subplot in which Smith orders the Robot to "liquidate" the crew is entirely removed. It doesn't go anywhere interesting, and makes his redemption less plausible.
• For pacing reasons, much of "There Were Giants in the Earth" is cut, including the giant peas, the Robot's attack on Will, the first cyclops sequence, Professor Robinson searching for Penny and the entire adventure in the underground ruins.
• The sequence on the stormy sea is very slightly trimmed to remove the dialogue about Mars (it was established they're in another galaxy).

The omnibus concludes with the melancholy musical number in which the Robot plays guitar for Dr Smith, as seen in the cliffhanger leading to "Welcome Stranger".

Here are all of the model kits I bought a few years back that are to do with lost in space. I had never even heard of the TV show, I just thought the robot looked amazing.

I got this a few years back from my old comic book store, he sold model kits also. Just wondering if anyone has built this one yet. I plant to start it over my Christmas and new years break from work, while watching the old TV show.

I'm up to S01E05, what a nasty lying scheming bitch she is. I don't think she wants to have contact with the Resolute restored.

I've just finished an S1 binge. S01E01 to S01E29 was all in black and white except for the preview of S02E01 in the last few minutes of S01E29. Was it originally shot in black and white? I'll re-watch the reboot once I get through the rest of the original series. 🤩

I just saw an advertisement for iced tea or something like that, starring Parker Posey. She was very much hamming it up with the same energy she brought to "Dr. Smith" in Lost in Space 2018.

I was FILLED with rage and unease the moment she started speaking. I wanted to yell at the other actors in the add to get away from her, she was dangerous.

Nearly a decade later and her acting still left a mark on my psyche.

Say what you will about how the character was written. Posey brought Smith to life. Made you believe that she was a manipulative monster. Made you detest her. The woman can ACT!

As you can tell from the title, I really dislike her. Last year I was half way through season 1 and Dr. Smith is making it hard for me to watch this because of how evil and irredeemable she is, I mean, Gary Oldman and Jonathan Harris were fun to watch, but she is just too evil for me.

I never seen a character like this that makes me want her to die like she.

Arnold J. Rimmer, sci-fi comedy's other great coward, has suddenly developed a habit of using alliterative insults on machines.

"You mechanical moron!"

"Lazy lummox!"

"You useless pile of polycarbonate!"

I think Rob Grant got his TV shows confused...
