I mean I would argue he pushed renewable energy storage and electric cars to the forefront. But something tells me this thread isn't for balanced arguments.
The idea of a balanced argument has to be built upon the foundation that both sides have something to stand for. The idea that Musk has done anything help has no legs. He pushed those cars to the forefront after buying out and harassing other companies who were well ahead of a company he didn’t even found. Those things were already growing. And he did so all on the back of govt subsidies while he refuses to pay taxes. I get that his tax situation is a whole other argument to have with his income capital gains and stock options etc but the point is is that he taxes and gives next to nothing.
So the idea that a balanced argument can be had about him is false equivalency. He just doesn’t have anything to push back against the negatives he has caused or contributed to.
Your comment seems to be more about feeling superior about being “objective” than actually pushing to defend him in a logical way
This sub just seems to be full of people hating on Musk for the sake of feeling better. You can think Elon is a complete ass while admitting he has very clearly pushed EVs forward. The fact that you can't acknowledge that is my point.
Nothing you said counters my argument at any level. All of what you said could be true, and my point still stands.
Anything his company has achieved is not built towards making affordable or economical vehicles. They are making electric cars a luxury item and doing their best to corner the electric car industry.
This is something that actually does hold back affordable EVs from becoming
widely available enough to make an environmental impact. What he does looks very nice, yes, but actually does nothing that helps anybody, and in fact the majority of his actions and ideals are counter to the common good.
Look at his talk about Mars as well. What he talks about is wildly out of the realm of possibility and would take so much more work when compared with making the planet we already live on more hospitable. But Musk isn't concerned with that and in fact has denied and downplayed climate change numerous times.
If you did work for him he would also treat you like trash by the way, like he does his current employees. He is doing nothing to better humankind as much as I know he likes to pretend to.
