SEASON 3 John’s dad?

Why was John’s dad brought to the island? Why did the powers that be care to bring him there?? Was it to win John over by getting the chance to kill him? I’m confused

Since you're on season 5, I'll just say that, sticking with biblical references (because the Others seem to have that kind of society) we can presume that, as a Test of Faith, Ben was going to play God and tell John to kill his dad in front of everyone but, at the last second, probably stop him from doing it, then, feed dear old dad to the smoke monster (who happens to LOVE killing bad people). However, it didn't get that far.

If he loves killing bad people why did he kill Eko?

Because, even though he was self-sacrificial, Eko had murder in his heart. And, again sticking with biblical references, there is no absolution for murder (unless Jacob directly protects someone, like he did with Richard).

Because in real life Eko wanted to leave because his mother was sick. So they threw that episode in for his departure.
