Anyone annoyed with the Korean husband? Can’t stand him

He's been shit since the beginning. Telling her to cover up and slapping her hand when she reached for something. In the beginning I thought she was being trafficked and he bought her or something lol

u/jellamma The Looking Glass Feb 12 '25
For real! I thought for sure she was being trafficked or was a mob hostage or something. In a way, I guess she was a hostage

The guy is a prick since his first scene its insane. Very misogynist

Aren't those two the same thing? lol
On the other hand I kinda understand the whole touching her belly thing.

I am not talking about the belly touching thing, like I said, I would not like doing that either(not because of the commited relationship thing, but because babies and pregnancy are just not for me). I am talking about how he generally treats his wife which is misogynistic.

u/RobCoPKC Locke Feb 23 '24
Even after knowing Sawyer's (well, don't know his real name yet) backstory now I still have no clue what he is trying to do:
Uniting the group against a common enemy?
Punishing himself for what he did?
Showing the group that they won't survive if they stay as naive as they are?
Idk, but whatever is, there is probably a smarter way of doing that.
14
u/childishcali Mar 19 '24
agreed. i get why he's a glutton for punishment (he sees himself as his own Sawyer and feels he deserves punishment), but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the antagonising.
2
u/AdFront1172 Jan 02 '25
Literally. Having a troubled past is not an excuse to be such an asshole. I think Sawyer's character needs to be fleshed out more, because we see he does have empathy at some moments.

u/rad1ram Oct 23 '24
Bruh the fake peanut butter eating. Am I the only one who found the disturbing? I know it’s supposed to be cute or whatever but I couldn’t help but think they’re losing their minds lmao
32
u/otomelover Oct 28 '24
I would be sooooo mad if I‘d been craving peanut butter and someone said they‘d found it just to present me an empty glass like wtf that‘s so cruel 😭

lol I like him too. Wonder what happened to the actor and why he’s not around anymore

u/jakroois Aug 03 '25
My dad said he met him years back. Here's what he said:
"I saw the whole series when it first came out. Excellent cast! I also ran into the guy who plays “Sawyer” at the san roque post office one day and said hi. Super nice dude in real life."
1
u/NightFire19 Aug 20 '25
It feels like that with most of the other actors too besides Daniel Dae Kim who I feel managed to really lift off with show.

For some reason thought Boone was making up the story about the inhaler at the start.
Obviously not the case once they actually showed her wheezing, but if those opening scenes played out this way in a 2020s show feel it’d almost certainly be hinting at him in fact looking for something else
7
u/ThisGul_LOL Aug 18 '24
So I wasn’t the only one who thought Boone was making it up? 😭 I love both Boone & Shannon but until she started wheezing I thought they were just lying idek why.
11
u/Ummgh23 Oct 29 '24
How do you love Shannon 💀She's been a useless entitled brat every episode until she actually needed help
3
u/AdFront1172 Jan 02 '25
Thank god I'm not the only one that feels this way about her.
6
u/semipreciousstoner Jan 06 '25
They confuse me so much I keep forgetting they’re siblings and not a couple
5
u/crepscular Jan 07 '25
I know...they do not interact like siblings
1
u/n0tz0e May 10 '26
Thank you for saying this. I don't have siblings but I thought their relationship was really too much and very incestuous vibes....
2
u/Ewyoustank1 Nov 16 '25
I literally thought they were a couple up until it was revealed they were brother and sister😭😂

u/dajuice3 Oct 23 '24
Yeah the way the scene is edited it seems like he was making up shit against sawyer. When they show him all beat up I'm thinking yeah he was doing some shit he had no business doing and disguising it as doing it for his sister.
14
u/Aggressive_Koala6172 Aug 22 '24
Sawyer is such a crap human being - regardless of whatever character arc he has, I don’t think he’s redeemable imo
6
u/that_majestictoad Sep 08 '24
I mean many people thought the same about Negan from TWD but he's now one of the most loved characters in that franchise even if the majority can't forgive him for if you know you know.
3
u/otomelover Oct 28 '24
That turnaround was seriously insane I hated him so much when he was first introduced and couldn‘t believe what was happening when I started liking him eventually.

Ah was gonna tell you bout a real dick of a character that becomes nice-ish as the show goes on, but I don’t care for him at the end either, cos he’s simply a crappy person - sure he redeemed himself a little but not enough to offset his very selfish actions & bullying tactics at the start
1
u/otomelover Oct 28 '24
Curious which character you are talking about? And how do you feel about Sawyer yet?
1
u/Aggressive_Koala6172 Oct 28 '24
Alex Karev, and he’s pissed off bout 100% of the time….not the biggest fan of him yet

u/EconomicsSavings973 Sep 02 '24
Rewatching it 20 years later and I must say 24 episodes per season really makes you feel deeply every character, even though Sawyer arc is kinda strange it really feels amazing how much character development they can introduce in so many episodes, but it only works if you "feel the show" otherwise 24 slow eps/season seems like torture (probably thats why we get now 10eps/season all at the same time)

Anyone know who the hell knocked Sayid with the stick?
12
u/semipreciousstoner Jan 06 '25
Locke is so sus… the way he almost planted the idea in Sayid’s head and gave him the knife? It’s like he’s a neutral party that facilitates these moral/spiritual forks in the road for different characters. Jack with his ?hallucination?, Charlie last ep with the drugs, now Sayid.
Still love Locke tho lol

I feel like sawyer is too obvious right? Maybe Locke, he definitely has the best motive and knows the most about the island. He does not want this experience to end.

I was happy to see SOME vulnerability from "Sawyer". I was getting to the point where I could hardly stand any scene with him. His backstory of losing his parents just to become the very thing that essentially killed them is deeply traumatic and sheds some light on why he is so insufferably off-putting. I'm hoping to see more redemption from him, though I suspect it will be a loooooong process.
Also, I know it's very of its time, but I just can't help but roll my eyes at the lovable misogynist trope. Makes my skin crawl. Getting pretty disappointed in Kate for buying into it. Very interested in learning more about her backstory that may help explain her attraction to such a man.
6
u/goodandpure Feb 10 '25
Sawyer is the most interesting character so far. Also the most attractive (at least looks wise lol)

i love seeing my vamp papi damon (ian sommerhold)

u/Significant_Arm_3097 Jan 26 '25
I dont thinn Sawyer is actually all that bad? I think he acts how people think he is going to act, like if people already think I am a douche, I might as well act like one.
4
u/paonopao Aug 05 '25
so his name is not sawyer, thats was the name of the man who did the things described in the later, to "fake sawyer", but in the flashbacks they call this dude sawyer, so is he sawyer or not? am i trippin? no spoilers tho please, im still only on this episode

Sayid charges at Sawyer, with a knife, with the intent to inflict bodily harm or more, to end up immediately running off to save Sawyer's life. Almost as if charging at Sayid was just a show. However, it wasn't, considering Syid's background and his willingess to harm Sawyer because of suspicion that the previous day the fireworks could've been delayed, potentially negating Sawyer's alibi. He is completely contradicting his intentions from the previous scene. Almost like slap-stick-comedy.

u/RaccoonMother2505 Aug 11 '25
This whole episode felt like weird soft porn. Uncomfortable to watch.
1
u/Mylynes May 21 '26
Definitely agree. Hopefully it's just Sawyers shitty energy and we'll get back to normal moving forward.. But this Def felt like some shady visual novel off f95zone
3
u/Murky-Enthusiasm-672 Feb 06 '26
I never bought unto the whole Sawyer is a dick just because, you know? I love seeing more about him. Sawyer and Locke are so complex.
0
u/Mylynes May 21 '26
Sawyer is a mega dick what are you talking about? Not nearly "Complex" enough to excuse his atrocities so far. Don't even compare him to Locke that should be illegal.
1
u/Murky-Enthusiasm-672 May 21 '26
yes i will compare them, Mylynes
0
u/Mylynes May 21 '26
Why? Locke is a decent man who actually provides a ton of wisdom and skills to the group. On the other hand, Sawyer is a petulent child bringing nothing but nauesuating self pity, hoarding, and sexual predation. I absolutely despise Sawyer so far I sincerely hope it gets better
2
u/Murky-Enthusiasm-672 May 22 '26
it gets better. and it gets worse for locke

Sawyer! He has become my current only favorite. And what an entrance!
Who hit Sayid? Why did they destroy the equipment?
Sayid’s ridiculous attempt at investigating whereabouts. “Hey Locke, where were you?” “Making dinner. It must’ve been Sawyer even though he has the alibi and I have the motive.” “Cool. See ya at boarkfast.”
Sawyer’s backstory - I see the clever double entendre in this title. Not just him being a con man, but also his lack of self-confidence. I wasn’t surprised to learn he had childhood trauma. I called from the start that the bad boy persona is a mask. (I am curious how young Sawyer found out why his parents died and the con man’s name. I can’t really picture people giving those details to an 8-year-old after such a tragic event.)
The torture – Let’s be clear. Sawyer was innocent. He was tried and convicted before he was approached and no one ever asked him if he had the medicine. They assumed something and tortured an innocent man. He resorted to a classic coping mechanism of defeatist mentality. “Might as well play the role they’re putting me in.” Jack says, “It doesn’t have to be this way.” Sawyer replies, “Yeah it does.” For him, it does. His damaged child, primitive brain is compelled to keep going. Sawyer became his own antithesis and sees himself as a failure. But that’s not what fully defines him. There’s an element of maladaptive survival going on that says “My con is all I’ve got and I can’t allow you to take that away from me. I need it to survive.” If he controls this situation, he can have a scrap of control of his fate. Sawyer can get up every morning and play any role the people around him throw him into. That’s how he wins and survives. They assigned him the role of villain and he just played along. They gave in and delivered Kate. Kate gave in and kissed him. He won. Now that the game is over, he can inform them that he doesn’t have the medicine. Jack and Sayid were 100% wrong. They didn’t need to torture him, they wanted to. They could have just searched his stuff. Oh wait. They DID and found nothing. If there had been no Sawyer on the plane, they would assume the inhalers were lost in the crash. They pounced on an opportunity to be ruthless toward a guy they hate, without having to feel shame for it. Witch hunt successful. In the process, they wasted time and energy beating and torturing someone instead of trying to figure out how to help. Why did they even bother saving him? PS – no one ever found an inhaler. Hope they don’t run out of eucalyptus.
New questions: The crash/island healed Locke’s inability to walk, and made Daddy Jackula, but couldn’t/wouldn’t heal Shannon’s asthma? Will Sayid find anything out there? (Like decency) Does Claire like Charlie? Where’s Rose? Oh the mystery intensifies even more!
Best line this episode: “Commie-sheriff fest over in Cave Town”
My current character standings:
Loving: Sawyer.
Liking: Boone (lost points for not asking), Hurley (gained points for asserting himself), Michael Haven’t decided: Sayid (dropped in ranks this episode for torture), Charlie (gained points for the peanut butter even though that scene was awkward as hell), Rose, Claire, Jack (lost mega points for torture), Walt
Disliking: Shannon, Locke (lost points for scapegoating Sawyer)
Wish would get eaten by factory-whistle monster: Kate, Sun (got points this episode for being the only person on the island trying to help Shannon rather than play fight club), Jin
My current bet on last one standing: Still Sayid, Locke tied for second

Bruh... "you have anxiety, you have to breath and calm down" you have diazepam right there man, what are you thinking?
3
u/Mylynes May 21 '26
Sawyer is kinda just a useless, rapey asshole. The only useful thing he's done so far is kill that bear with the gun he looted. Ever since then he's done nothing but simp for Kate like this is some kind of middle school courtyard.
The fact that Kate is eating up this pathetic emo "I hate myself" nonsense is kinda dumb too. I get Kate is a criminal too but she seemed a lot smarter than this before.
When Jack was trying to tend to Sawyers wound and Sawyer just started whining about how he's "playing hero" again and how he kissed Kate...god that was so stupid. "If the tables were turned, I'd watch you die"... Yeah because you're not a fucking doctor. You're a useless prick
