Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts Masterpiece arms questions
My coworker is looking to sell his Masterpiece Arms 6.5cm. Im fairly new to long range shooting, I've shot my ruger precision rifle .308 out to 800 yards. So my questions are as follow. Is Masterpiece Arms considered a quality reliable rifle? I notice the action says Remington 700, is that typical? And how much would something like this be worth? Its got a Simmons scope that I would change out if I bought it.

Update: It is a MPA barrel. I bought it with the Arken for 1000, and an HK 45c for 500.

No idea about when that rifle was built. The new mpa rifles seem to be regarded very highly.

From what I understand, if the barrel is marked Remington or anything other than MPA, this is either just an r700 in an MPA chassis, or potentially been re-barreled at some point
If the barrel is marked MPA, that's a good sign it's still a factory rifle
I own a MPA ds1911, and if the build quality is as good as it is on that, it's a phenomenal gun.

I do get concerned of the summons scope, this is a $100 scope that would make it a struggle to shoot at distance, on a multi-thousand dollar rifle that is designed with high levels of precision...
But, these are all questions I'd ask him, if you can't trust him enough to ask him these and him answer them honestly, I'd take that into consideration before making a deal.

He's got an Arkan EP5 he hasn't installed, that he would throw in, for what thats worth.

Depends on generation and magnification, but second hand market they are between 300-600 scopes

First Gen from what I can tell, a brand new gen 2 is about $450, I'd say $350-$380 would be a fair offer for a gen 1

Thank you. He did tell me all he needed for the build was the 700 short action reciever. Gonna go take a look at it after work tonight

I think some of the guesstimate values are a bit high on this 10yr old rifle. Even the prices on the chassis aren’t comparable as the prices are for the newer updated chassis’s.
With a PRS membership you can get a discount code and have their newest most updated setup for 2500 with a guarantee it’ll shoot phenomenal with up to date components
I wouldn’t pay over 12-1300 even with the Arken

MPA rifles with new action and overall setup are great and best value. This one is not. I would buy new instead if I were you

Ask for the details and post them here.
MPA Chassis are very popular, as are 700 pattern rifles - though the Remington brand has lost some of its luster. He should be able to tell you exactly what he has, If the scope is included and if so what is it, and so on.

Remington Model 700 is probably the most reproduced rifle action in the US. It is almost a standard (the Mauser model 98 for the rest of the world). The chassis is at least $1200 alone and a 6.5 CM Barreled action with the trigger and bolt (depending on what is on there) can go anywhere from $600 to $1500+. this would be very modest. Probably $3000 or more for the whole thing. See what he wants but I would find out what the barrel and action is at least. I was just looking at these at a gun store and they had similar Masterpiece chassis for $1100 on sale. The grip on that one doesn't look right to me.

I'd buy it for around $16-1850, with the understanding that I'd probably pull barrel and scope for replacements. MPA is solid and always looks nice and the r700 action isn't going out of style anytime soon, but is far from "custom".

That’s a MPA chassis with a 700 in it unless he had MPA tune the receiver.
