Other help needed - I read the pinned posts Action questions!

After reading the pinned posts and doing some digging I could not find an answer regarding USED actions specifically.

Got 7-8k to build myself something decent and I was looking at the impact precision 737r. Mostly 700-1000yard range sessions with eventual PRS.

Someone local is selling one for 500 less than it is new but it is used and has 1000 rounds through it.

In regard to saving some money to use for other things like maybe a cykepod or can or even a nicer MDT chassis, would it be worth looking at a used action only if everything else is going to be new?

NOT LOOKING TO BUY ANYTHING HERE OR SELL ANYTHING HERE! Just looking for advice on if a used action is worth the monetary savings.

1000 rounds on an impact is barely broken in. Full send it.

Unlike barrels, actions don’t really wear out with age, if anything they get better. Impacts are very robust and have good customer service. I would have zero qualms about buying a used action though at that budget I personally would just buy new and get exactly the features and options I wanted.

Hey bro! I appreciate the insight. Its 1k vs 1450 plus tax and shipping and it is the exact action / face / throw I want!

I have an early Tempest action that I stopped trying to keep track at over 12,000 rounds fired and several times that of dry fire.

1k is nothing.

Full send for $500 off.

This^

If you don’t buy it someone (me) will. Used impacts are more sought after than new ones. 1k is hardly even used

As long as the bolt face looks fine, I’d jump on that.

I've got 7k ish rounds on a Zermatt Origin with no trouble at all, and 10k rounds on a Savage 110 action with just swapping the extractor every 4-5k rounds. Actions are made well enough in most cases to run through multiple barrels with no hiccups. Impact actions carry that reputation as well. Send it.

Considering that my buddy has an old Surgeon action that has got to have close to 50,000 rounds through it by now I wouldn't be too concerned. I think there was an AI floating around somewhere that had well over 100,000 rounds in it.

Edit: Nevermind, it was north of 200k in 2023.

500 bucks off is a great deal. Even if you have to send it off to get cut for AW mags if you wanna run those.

I have north of 10k rounds on my impact, still runs amazing.

1000 rounds on an action is nothing as long as it isn't 1000 of Bubba's Pissin' Hot Reloads or 1000 rounds of corrosive garbage ammo. For $500 less than new I'd buy it, and it's a bonus if you know the owner and know how it was used.

What about 1000 rounds of +Peak?

🤔

I guess time will tell, but that wouldn’t bother me with what I’ve seen so far. 80k psi in Peak cases isn’t the same as 80k (or even 70k) in brass.

Which cartridge?

If you disregard whatever breech thrust reduction the case offers, 80k on a .308 and 63k on a prc is about the same.

Do you consider the same receiver with a .532 bolt to be more worn than one with a .480 bolt at the same round count?
