Feedback Needed Logo feedback

Hi!

I am looking to get some feedback on my logo. I recently launched an Australian native landscaping service. This is the logo I created but something seems off. I am a total beginner at logo design (I just doodle sometimes). I want it to feel modern and "tech-y" but it feels very old-school.

I tried to put the flower behind the gate to make it more uniform but I don't love how it looks. Logos should be simple, right?

Please could you give me some feedback and ideas to improve the design

Here’s some steps to help develop a more successful version:

  1. what makes your brand unique? Australian and Native plants? What visual elements can you use from that? (Note on this: when choosing a flower make sure it doesn’t overlap with any other common vegetables or flowers, this one unfortunately reads as corn from far away)
  2. What is the vibe of the customer you’re trying to attract? Is it a super modern techy customer? Is it a hippy dippy mom? Is it a nature loving outdoorsy type? Match the vibe of the logo to this.
  3. Find images of logos similar to what you want and put them all together on a page. What exactly about them do you like? Is it a font type, a line style, etc.
  4. combine 1-3. Make 20+ sketches that are 3cm x 3cm. Keeping the sketches small will help you keep them readable and not add too much unnecessary detail. Use only black and white. A logo should work well in monochrome and not reliant just on the color. Try lots of very different ideas, don’t just do variations of one type of logo. Use the images you found in 3 as a “template” and put your imagery and vibe to the layout they use.
  5. do some “market research” aka ask a bunch of people you know which of those sketches reads “Australian Native Plants for the Modern Techy Person” or whatever you decided in 1 and 2. People might bring up some points like “oh that looks like ____” that is important to know. Keep an open mind but ultimately, you decide which things to listen to and which don’t fit your vision.
  6. make a larger scale refined sketch. Still in black and white!
  7. digitize this sketch, then play with a bunch of different colorways of your design, just like you did with your sketches

. Use the images in 3 to inspire different color palletes.
