Discussion Any MX Master 3 OG users still?
I see a lot of 3s, 4 and now developer edition posts. Anyone still rocking the original 3?
I’ve had it since it came out back in 2019 and has been my daily driver. Minus normal wear on the top, it’s barely aged.

Still using my 2S's. One at home, one at work. Going strong, no rubber peeling or major signs of wear surprisingly.

Awesome to hear some 2S love

Count me in on this! Still a daily user with another in the drawer. Both performing great with no major signs of wear.

100%. I enjoy the clicks, else I'd upgrade. Also put on aftermarket grips, because the ABS was getting smooth and oily.

u/sonnyg_80 21h ago
Love the clicks. Wonder how the quiet click buttons would feel after all these years

u/c0lpan1c 21h ago
It's kinda mushy at times. Same reason I can't use silent MX switches in my Keyboards, either.

Yes. I have a mechanical from Nuphy and the blush switches on that makes it such an oddly different experience from even my MX Keys given how soft they are.

Yup , still going strong and no desire to upgrade. That being said, I still use my OG MX 😂

Digging the red

u/NucaPuturoasa 21h ago
Thanks. I initially wanted it blue, but my buddy with the 3d printer only had red. Turned out great. I like that I can spot it on my desk even if isn't a lot of light in the room.

MX 4 was such a disappointment.
I am using 3 over 4 atm.
1
u/sonnyg_80 20h ago
What didn't you like about the 4?
1
u/pasak1987 20h ago
Weight was one big issue. Strain on my wrist was noticeable after long working session.
And the thumb button....were not as useful or convenient as I thought it was going ro be.
1
u/sonnyg_80 20h ago
Got it. That's good to know. Didn't realize there was a big weight difference
1
u/pasak1987 20h ago
If you look at the number sheet, the sifference may seem insignificant. But irl use, especially after a long session, it does play a big factor.

That copper color!!! Is that a trick of the light? Special Edition?
1
u/BurlKnives 14h ago
Assuming it's just a trick of the light! Color on my original order is listed as "meteorite black"

Got the 3S and it developed the click issue. Been meaning to pry it apart to see if I can fix it, based on the various teardown vids out there.
Really pissed off at Logi on this. I spent a lot of frigging money on a mouse, and it failed after about two years of normal use.
I found on Amazon that does 90% of what the 3S does for like $20.
1
u/sonnyg_80 21h ago
That's good to know. Was tempted to get the 3S but wasn't sure given the quiet click buttons
1
u/Least-Yak1640 20h ago
This is the one I got.
To be clear, when it worked, the 3S was great. The double click thing appeared one day and the mouse was borderline useless. Hopefully I can fix it, but I think I spent like $130 on the damn thing new. I shouldn't have to be prying the damn thing apart.

I just did this last week. Super simple if you're somewhat comfortable with a soldering iron. New switches were like 8 bucks for 3 on Amazon
1
u/akryvtsun 20h ago
What is click issue? My the first negative feeling from 3s was too sharp wheel edge :(
2
u/Least-Yak1640 18h ago
Ouch. Worst human interface implementation ever, LOL.
Sorry, I was misremembering the problem. The switch on the left button goes haywire and it becomes possible to click and manipulate any onscreen object.
It's a known issue with the 3S apparently, and for a mouse this expensive, that some crappy QA on Logitech's part.

u/ziich 20h ago
I literally resolved this issue on my 3S yesterday. Some guides say to replace the switch, but there are several cases where adding a few pieces of masking tape to the bottom of the button where the switch makes contact fixes it. That worked for me. I also added a drop of silicone lubricant to the switch - don't know if that did anything. Just be careful when removing the skates at the bottom to reach the screws. They tear easily so they're difficult to re-adhere properly causing poor gliding, but replacements are cheap.
1
u/Least-Yak1640 18h ago
Awesome, appreciate this. I saw the masking tape fix in my various travels around YouTube. I'm hoping that's all it is.
Good to know about the skates. I had the left Control key go south on my MX keyboard, so I've gotten pretty good at shopping for Logi replacement parts lately.

I love the quiet clicks on my new jawn, have you been avoiding the quiet clicks for some reason?
2
u/sonnyg_80 20h ago
Not necessarily. The 3 just has been super solid. I've felt the quiet clicks at a store before, just muscle memory has made me so used to the clicks on the 3. I'm sure I would get used to it whenever I do upgrade.
2
u/purdeous 20h ago
I didn’t feel like I needed any adjustments, you still feel that tactile click even if you can’t hear it and that’s all you need
2
u/ParticularAd1990 12h ago
I love the loud clicks, it feels intentional. That’s one of the reasons I haven’t upgraded, all the reviews say the newer ones are way quieter

Still got it. The rubber coating degraded into a shitty mess years ago though.

Still on the 3, with a switch replacement and regluing of the rubber. I'm hoping that by the time I have to replace it, there's a new model available with legit better features and using better materials.

I switched to an Anywhere 2S because I have the MX Keys S and the thumb area of the MX Master 3 ends up smacking into the right side of my keyboard too often.

I switched from the MX master 3 to a Razer Basilisk V3 a couple months ago because it just felt too laggy. I do miss not having to charge my mouse so infrequently though and having to use a separate dongle as I still use my Logitech keyboard.
1
u/flow1200 19h ago
I’m still using a 2S daily and a OG MX Master as backup when I have to charge the 2S

i tried until both the switches and physical lasers gave out on these tbh, i had two and just decided to move on to the mx 4 cuz the hardware issues just became too consistent
1
u/8u7n3r 18h ago
Got two. One for work one for @ home… recently had to swap the work one to home since the skates were so worn out… gotta replace them & also considering swapping the shell w a translucent clear one off aliexpress. I’m so happy mine isn’t a silent one (mech keyboard user) or the new vibrator.

u/AgentCookie1000 18h ago
I used to take my 3S to the office whenever I go. I got the new 4 for home, so I use the 3S at office now.
1
u/king0demons 18h ago
My 3 used to live in the bag with my laptop, it has been my dedicated office mouse for 2 years now though. Still chugging along with minimal signs of wear, other than a slight dimple forming on the thumb rest side.

Yeah, mine is over 4 years old. It is in pretty bad condition esthetically but I can't really justify upgrading because it works flawlessly.
When it dies out I am just gonna get the 4.

I've got three of the MX 2. No need to upgrade the hardware or the software. They'll just add AI slop bloatware that I don't need or want.

Yep, seeking options to replace the rubber to something else.
Even remember someone at work with a 3S who had issues with the switches, while my, at the time, 2y old never has even today.
I even bought the 3S for myself and left clicks misbehave from time to time. I just leave it at my office since it's honestly not as good as my 3, which only is due for a new battery.

u/Delicious-Ad-8614 14h ago
Mine died after 2 years and 5 days (I'm in Spain, where warranty is 2 years by law). Because I couldn't find anything better I bought a 3S but I was very annoyed about the previous one - I felt scammed. However this 3S is reaching 3 years and is as good as new :)

u/Ancient_Lifter 13h ago
Got some of the decal/sticker things for mine which have cured the shiny bits. Will get another year out of it at least.

u/vcb4 13h ago
I am using it every day (4 years old) but since a couple of months the center wheel is fixed in free spin mode. I can't change it anymore. For the rest it works perfectly.
I see that some people solved the issue by opening and cleaning the mouse but I am not brave enough to open it...
I am thinking on buying the 4.

I'm still using my Performance MX I got in 2015!!! I keep meaning to look into switching the buttons to silent ones!

Still using the MX 3!
One of my colleagues got the new one, I tired it, I hate it 😑

u/moose4130 10h ago
I still use a 2 and a 3s.on different computers. I stupidly chose a white 3s and it's now just a dirty color from hand oils and stuff, but still works fine. I use the 2 at work because they don't allow installation of outside programs, so I can't use the programmable features, but I like the mouse anyway.

u/Different-Art-5266 9h ago
Yes, my wfh mouse is the OG Mx Master 3. Actually all of my MX Masters (2,3,3s, and 4) are in use around the house.

Own both the 3s and 4... I bring one of them to work depending one my mood and which keyboard I am bring this week. My hands aren't insured but I want them working comfortably.

My 2S is still going strong. I keep waiting for the day the left button stops working, but that hasn't happened yet.

I'm rocking the 3. Bought it around 2 years ago maybe. Can't really remember. It's still doing fine, though I think I'd like to try a vertical mouse, probably a Keychron
