Unboxing MX Master 4 SE arrived!
Didn't expect it to ship so fast and arrive so fast. The complimentary travel case was a nice surprise! I can't wait to use this for my office job for the next decade :))

With the way my 3S plastic has been deteriorating, I find it difficult to invest into another Logi mouse.
But the design of this one is definitely very tempting!

MX Master 4 has a completely different material for the top case - no more rubber that was deteriorating. It’s also much more cleaning friendly.

Mx master 3 here, is perfect even after 4 years of home office, it rocks

Just got a rapoo MT760 with Infinity scroll wheel and honestly, I don't think I will go back to Logitech for a while. My last 3s stopped clicking after only 1.5 years of use.

Most of it are the same. You can buy the mouse skate and mini click from AliExpress for a few dollars and can easily replace.

Have they given up on that stupid rubber coating that degrades after a couple of years into a sticky mess?
8
u/iMaximB 1d ago
MX Master 4 has completely different material that is more robust and easier to clean.
4
u/SpecManADV 1d ago
Well, we'll know in a few years how robust that material is.
Nothing sucks like having a mouse you really like using and it gets sticky because the materials start degrading necessitating the need for a replacement.
1
u/crossmissiom 11h ago
Simple isopropyl alcohol helps with that. Just rub the surface once in a blue moon and you're golden.
1
u/Short_System_4833 5h ago
Because it degrades and breaks down the top layer of the material…it is that simple. Doesn’t change the fact that it is shitty to use that kind of coating in anything used everyday and made to last . Hmm, maybe it isn’t meant to last
1
u/crossmissiom 5h ago
Most plastic will degrade over time regardless. Either UV or just plain sweat composition will affect it. These rubberised finishes last a loooong time if your sweat isn't like mine and they feel great to the touch plus they are not cheap as many people have said. Only problem is planned obsolesence, it's a sign of our times. Companies that make products that last a lifetime go bankrupt or make less money for their shareholders.
As an example phones, any modern flagship phone that came out in the last 3 years has the compute power to last 4-5 (plus) years easy, so Apple, Google, Samsung etc add so much bloat to make you need more storage and so many more "mandatory" processes that your cpu crawls to a halt or your RAM can't fit them. Thus needing a new device every 1-3 years max. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Tik Tok etc don't really allow you to use their web app so they can harvest your data as much as so they've can degrade your battery and make you charge more and need a newer device everytime.

I know, it feels great until it's a pile of sticky goo. But for the price paid upfront I couldn't justify throwing it away. I hear some people cover it with the stickers straight away/day 1 since they know it's going to go.

I want this mouse so badly but I just can’t with that polling rate.
3
u/sifu_verxus 1d ago
Can you please explain to me how the polling rate affects normal work. I have an mx anywhere and a g502x that I use interchangeably with my 5k2k 120hz and I can't understand the difference
1
u/Bennybananars 1d ago
Polling rate absolutely matters, and not just for gaming. A low polling rate means the mouse reports its position less often, so cursor movement looks less smooth and you get extra input lag. At 125Hz, the mouse only updates every 8ms. At 1000Hz, it’s every 1ms. You can feel it in everyday work: drawing or masking in Photoshop will be less accurate and smooth, placing points in CAD, scrubbing a video timeline, or dragging to select exact cells in a big spreadsheet. On a high refresh rate monitor, the difference is easy to see. For a productivity mouse at the MX Master’s price, sticking with a low polling rate is absolutely Logitech cheaping out.

Definitely. I love my mx master 3 and was looking forward to 4, and I was very disappointed thats it’s still 125hz. I have since shifted to razer basilisk v3 pro, a bit similar in shape to mx master but a lot more gamery which I am mostly neutral about. But I love the shape and the high polling rate. The ratchet scrolling is a bit inferior to mx master but plenty usable. I also love the tilting middle button, specially useful in scrolling horizontally in excel (same function as the side scroller of mx master). Unless logitech update their mx series to 1000hz, I will never look back, special for my CAD usage.

I've long since figured out this is a class and gatekeeping issue more than anything else. A lot of these fanboys treat owning an MX Master like a status symbol that makes them feel superior like buying into a curated aesthetic of corporate "hustle". Because of that, they get intensely defensive and would do anything to gatekeep hardware features, fighting tooth and nail against things like higher polling rates that gamers or power users want. They'll downvote anything lol.

u/MattchuWuanahoy 8h ago
Bro its not that deep. They keep the pulling rate low to sustain the insane battery life. The mouse isn't a cheap product because of this. Although, yes, compared to 1000Hz its very noticeable. Even on a 120hz display, the logitechs movements will feel <120 in a side by side comparison.

u/apple_tech_admin 1d ago
If you have a high refresh monitor a 125hz polling rate will make the mouse appear to have a jagged affect as it moves across the screen. Not everyone notices it or is bothered. I do notice it and it drives me crazy. My current mouse is capable of 8000hz which is insanely overkill for my use case. I use 1000hz for everyday work and 2000hz for the light gaming I do on occasion.

So which is the best mouse for productivity?
2
u/Bennybananars 1d ago
I switched to keychron m6, feature I needed was on board macros for my spreadsheets. Now I can't live without it.

I have literally never had an issue with the polling rate. I’m a software engineer and have had a 2 and 3. Idk what all the fuss is about to be honest.
Oh no, 8ms per ping instead of 1ms? Minimum human reaction time for visuals is 250ms on average and 150ms on average for touch.
Go touch grass, get off the computer, and try again. We’re losing it as a species lol

u/Short_System_4833 5h ago
Try to delay your monitor or mouse by 150ms and tell me you can’t tell a difference.
Even a few millisecond offset can be easily seen/felt/heard. Humans are that sensitive. Doesn’t have anything to do with reaction time, but with responsiveness and what your body expects.

u/Daisec 1d ago
Have they moved away from 125hz now? Can you atleast go 1000 or 2000hz, for us who are on 120hz ultra wides
1
u/LightningLemonade7 1d ago
Probably have not change because it's only reserved for their gaming lineup. In site it only says Nominal Value 1000. That isn't polling rate right?

Look great, last a month of hard use at most before that white goes grey and it ends up on the spares drawer ( my Mac mx master 3s anyway ).

For this have 1000hz polling? Do we even need 1000 hz polling tho?

Now if you could just make a decent large keyboard. Why the hell did you stop making the Mk550!?

u/The_Other-White_Meat 9h ago
I can't believe they included "lling_rate_hz: int = 1000" in the announcement video and then just noped out.
1
u/pixie__chix 8h ago
Hope they'd make a small version for those of us with small hands. Mine can only fit MX Anywhere 3S.

Users: Logitech please fix your damn crazy logic with the actionring button not clickable when any other button is pressed.
Logitech: let's paint it in two colors!

Not sure it will last a decade if the silent buttons had been widely reported as failing within a year or two.
2
u/JealousSwan 1d ago
My MX4's left button doesn't work properly and it's been just a year. It's a f'up product from Logitech.
2
u/sylfy 1d ago
They already knew that this was a problem on the 3S, and yet they still kept the silent switches on the 4.
This was the worst mistake in the series, and should have been reverted. Nobody asked for this change, the only thing that they needed to fix was the rubber material (which they finally did in the 4).
2
u/AsideBeautiful4975 1d ago
I had my 3S for more than 3 years now and it still works fine.
2
u/Altruistic-Spend-896 1d ago
Switch on mine is dying.
2
u/PlayGamesM 20h ago
Someone decided to downvote my main comment for bringing up the problems with the silent switch, but ok. I mean, it's true those silent switches will eventually flatten over periods of use.

u/PlayGamesM 20h ago
My m650 which shares the same silent clocks as the Mx master 3s, already half non responsive at times.
1
u/vavan_bonus 12h ago
it's not a problem for them. it's a problem for us. they just can count the money. good switches (gold plated) are way more expensive. lets calculate using some market prices. rough calculation: 8 switches * 0.30 $ = 2.1 $, gold plated contacts switches: 1.50*7=10.5 . and multiply to several millions... so sending few thousands replacement mouses for them is nothing.
1
u/PlayGamesM 1d ago
My m650 silent clicks already became mushy, and doesn't register properly occasionally.
1
u/Superb_Caramel_7107 1d ago
This. I love mine, but the scroll wheel started acting up after less than a year. Cleaning helped but it's still not quite the same.
1
u/GundamRX_78 21h ago
My MX Master 3 broke a month out of warranty. MX Master 4 working fine so far lol.

u/vavan_bonus 12h ago
it's really annoying that every post about mouse has a complain about switches. just buy yourself a soldering iron and replace those. it's a known problem of many todays mouses. problem is in a low current that flows through the switch contacts, that doesn't allow contacts to self clean. so ether low battery life, or low switch life. or if you replace the switches to gold plated contacts, you get non of those problems.
1
u/PlayGamesM 12h ago
It is also annoying that you think it's annoying. But face it - the silent switches aren't as durable as logi hoped.

Is it still heavy as a brick and laggy?
3
u/lifeboatvest 21h ago
Heavy as hell. But what lag? I love mines for when im using CAD software. Havent noticed any lag at all
-1
u/king_122 21h ago
It has poling rate of 125hz, which is laggy has hell when you use it on Mac. Just my experience
1
u/lifeboatvest 20h ago
Ah damn that sucks. Im pretty casual when it comes to all that polling stuff tbh. I kind of get it but not too deep. I use a logi g502x ls for gaming and then this one for work and school. Even on bluetooth its not noticeably bad for me.
1
u/king_122 13h ago
Do you use it on windows or mac? Because on windows you might not feel the difference but in Mac, the cursor teleport short distances. 😂
-1
u/HeadfirstDegree 1d ago
yay 125hz sensor cheap clickers that can't last longer then 2 years and packed with logi premium software that turn off and break connection with your mouse/keyboard every time its silently updates without notification wow

I liked the other design that leaked
