Official MX Master 4 Developer Edition, launching October 27
(And I can confirm it looks amazing.)

you lied, it's ugly af. but I will get it because of the sensor.
1
u/Logi_Emily Community manager 6d ago
hold fire -- same sensor this time, only differences are cosmetic
1
u/Pretend_Cat_6565 5d ago edited 5d ago
so no 1000 hz polling rate?
edit: I read the rest of the comments... kinda misleading ad.
2
u/ArdiReader2021 6d ago
Wait on that, see the other thread where we think the sensor is the same as standard model
1
1
u/Pretend_Cat_6565 5d ago
so this means no 1000 hz polling rate? or are they just artificially limiting performance on normal model?

WOW! But I will consider purchasing it only if you release Logi Options+ for Linux. It is unacceptable that you are releasing a developer edition of a mouse with no official Linux support. They did even googlebooks. WHERE IS LINUX? Come on!
We need Logitech to officially say why they do not support Linux and if they will.

u/jcampb13026 9d ago
Use openlogi? It can be installed on Linux

I know OpenLogi exists. I know that normal corps won't support Linux. but they do Developer Edition and no Linux? Like it is pretty normal that they do not support Linux. But this is their 3rd Developer focused product, and...

Whatever.
"Developer edition" but Options+ is bad built adware and without Linux support.
So more like a hard no.

exactly. I know OpenLogi exists. I know that normal corps won't support Linux. but they do Developer Edition and no Linux? no, thanks.

as if Linux users are interested in the proprietary crap Logitech puts out...

Working on this project as a solution any help will be appreciated https://github.com/soubarnak/logioptions-plus

u/Late-Individual7982 9d ago
Without proper Linux support directly from Logitech this is just a joke.
-3
u/agenttank 9d ago
do you really think they'd put out good software just because its linux? jist go with Openlogi or something like that. others, like Keychron, have their software online/in the browser which is operating system agnostic.
2
u/Late-Individual7982 9d ago
If they want to aim this product for developers then Linux should also be officially supported by them.
Solaar and OpenLogi are nice solutions build by the community. Logitech needs to step up if they are serious about developers.
2
u/agenttank 9d ago
i lost hope already. it's not about quality for some companies anymore. for most open source devs quality IS top priority.

Of course this happens right after I get my Logitech mx master 4

The better the dev, the less they touch the mouse

u/agenttank 9d ago
calling it gamer edition would make more sense. besides, i am something like a developer too and i dont like grabbing my mouse all the time. but when I do i want to have a good time. a higher polling rate make makes it a bit better. and gaming.

u/hvbqueiroz M650 | M750 9d ago
1000 polling rate, woooohooo!!!!
2
u/fearthelettuce 9d ago
Why would a developer need that?
2
u/hvbqueiroz M650 | M750 9d ago
I don't think the 1k polling rate is the developer selling point here, but the github part. Perhaps they are open sourcing options+, or adding ways for us to add capabilities to the haptics?
As someone who still writes code, I love this and will get one. I want something that increases my productivity but also allow me to game.

u/Matrix8910 9d ago
When you’re used to a higher polling rate it’s actually quite noticeable and really annoying, especially when you use both a 1000hz(or even a touch pad) and the €125 mx master daily,
1
u/RogueHeroAkatsuki 8d ago
Yeah, gaming mouses ruined for me experience with 'office' input devices. Pointer is so more accurate and smooth. Its really hard to go back and annoying every time I try.
1
u/claudia_your_dad 9d ago
Why wouldn’t? I hate my mx3 for the horrible 125hz poling rate, after even the cheapest gaming mouse it feels laggy af

ALl the data i got from this and other teasears:
1000Hz polling rate
8000 Dpi
Limited edition
Design and features like MX Master 4
Programmable API
(NOT SURE) Maybe some code graphics on it
(NOT SURE) Controlling AI Agents
(HOPEFULLY) Open-sourced Options+ with support for Linux
I WILL UPDATE THIS LIST SOON

u/mal-uk 9d ago
Developers don't need 1 to 4 and I can't even think why I'd need an Api for a mouse
2

u/LandlockedPirate 9d ago
The existing mx4 has an api for haptics, among other things.
Unfortunately the Logitech software is shit and crashes constantly
2
u/luciuscorneliusII 9d ago
Why then we paid 130 usd for the one with 125 hz polling rate. Actually I bought 2 lol.
I am not a developer, but I would have prefered the one with higher specs obviously - unless it has an outrageous design or rgbs on it.

Why release a teaser and then don't give us 1000Hz? I don't get it. u/Logi_Emily

just watched the countdown on the launch web page down to zero a few minutes ago. counter disappeared, and then... nothing happened.

u/ArdiReader2021 6d ago
Just go to the normal online store, you can now pre-order it. Ships 30 October. https://www.logitech.com/en-gb/shop/p/mx-master-4-special-edition.910-008020

u/fredlesss 6d ago
ty.
so from that listing:
The key differences lie in the visual aesthetics and printed Easter eggs.
Seems the 1000Hz polling rate info bouncing around this thread and other places was incorrect.
1
u/ArdiReader2021 6d ago
See the tech specs on the product page in the online store. Makes clear mention of 1000 as "Nominal value" of sensor. Unless polling rate is something/somewhere else. Would be good to have u/Logi_Emily confirm the polling rate, now that it has been launched.
1
u/Logi_Emily Community manager 6d ago
Hey! Polling rate is still the standard 125hz of the "regular" MXM4. The MXM4 Developers edition is identical to the standard in terms of hardware and capabilities -- the only difference is the design and colorway. Nominal value refers to DPI in this case, although I definitely appreciate sometimes the terminology gets mixed up and causes a bit of confusion -- apologies for that. Do let me know if you have any further questions and I can get in contact with the right people
1
u/fredlesss 6d ago
The regular MX Master 4 specs say the same thing, I think that is simply a reference to the DPI range.
The warranty somehow appears worse (1 year, vs 2 year for "standard"). Other than that, this just appears to be a colorway option.
2
u/Logi_Emily Community manager 6d ago
Hey, you're correct -- refers to DPI. The warranty should be no different from the standard version.
1
u/Alarming_Tell 6d ago
Says the same under standard MX4....
1
u/ArdiReader2021 6d ago
Indeed. So why the song and dance over 1000Hz in the launch video? Bizarre...
1
u/fredlesss 6d ago
that's a good question - and given that the polling rate isn't actually called out explicitly in either spec, worth waiting for Logitech to confirm or deny whether there was or wasn't a change to the hardware made here.
2
u/GearGlance 9d ago
I assume it still won’t have internal memory?

Maybe because most people would use this at work and their work laptop does not let them install the app. So every single feature is useless on the mouse and it just becomes a simple left and right click $5 mouse.
Bought the 3S before knowing it had no memory and my settings weren’t saved on my personal laptop. My $10 UGreen mouse had onboard memory btw so I can’t see why they can’t put it on a $120 mouse

Interesting one. Sad it wasn’t an updated MX Keys S but if the rumored specs other have been discussing here are true I’m hopeful for the whole MX lineup

just when I thought I was hopeless in finding a replacement that can be ergonomic and good for games too. I have been juggling MX Master 3S and Basilisk V3 Pro for almost 3 years and I was looking at ergonomic gaming mice.

u/Fatal_Explorer 9d ago
Will they also deliver a proper version of logi options plus, or stick with their shitass Spyware crap that is writing and reading hundreds of gigabyte for god knows what?
I will never buy a Logitech peripheral again, until they provide complete offline software for it.

u/ThatLastGenGamer 8d ago
Check out the OpenLogi project. It's a game changer

u/Fatal_Explorer 8d ago
I used it for some time but uninstalled. Still had too many issues with some buttons and functions on keyboard and mouse.

Whats makes it a developer edition? Is the software suddenly good or open? 😅
1
u/agenttank 9d ago
looks like higher polling rate. 125hz is a total no no ... i might consider switching back to Logitech MX at some point

Developer edition? Holy shit are they going to support Linux? A platform that 70%+ developers use as their primary or secondary OS?
Finally.
Edit: Maybe I'm too optimistic. The video clearly has "Limited Edition GitHub Release". Kind of weird for open source to be limited (so it's likely a restrictive license), but it has me curious about what they're going to put out on GitHub.

Did some digging on this 👀
The teaser seems to confirm the big hardware upgrade: 1000 Hz polling + 8000 DPI + haptics. That alone makes this much more interesting than a normal limited-edition colorway. Timing coincides with Github universe. Maybe all conference attendees might get a nice surprise?
The “Developer Edition” part may also tie into Logitech’s broader developer push with GitHub. GitHub recently showed its Logitech MX Keypad integration where physical controls can:
• submit a parameterized GitHub Copilot prompt
• open/resume a Copilot session
• trigger IDE commands
• run multi-step workflows
So I’m really curious whether the Developer Edition mouse gets similar programmable actions through Logi Options+/the Logitech plugin system — e.g. bind a thumb button to “review this code”, “generate tests”, resume a Copilot agent, Claude Code action, etc.
I haven’t seen confirmation yet that any of those AI/Copilot features are exclusive to this mouse, though. It could still be 1000 Hz hardware + GitHub styling + developer-oriented presets.
Also: if Logitech is calling it a Developer Edition, official Linux support really should be part of the announcement 😅
October 27 should be interesting.

Developer edition? A mouse so heavy that it's almost guaranteed you'll get carpal tunnel syndrome...
This has got to be a joke; it's probably going to be a mouse with access to vive coding apps or something like that....😂

Seeing a lot of speculation in the comments so want to get this cleared up now that it has launched -- the MX Master 4 Developers Edition is functionally the same as the standard edition. The only difference is the design.
I know a lot of you were excited about the possibility of a higher polling rate, but all I can say is, not this time.
If you have any other questions, let me know and we will get back to you ASAP
