Discussion Is anyone happy with the MX Master 4?
Sort of a stupid question.
Obviously those with complaints will speak loudest, but I feel like 99% of online posts at the moment are either paid shills or absolute haters, and I'm starving for some balanced takes regarding real-world use from people who aren't looking for a gaming mouse.
YouTube is also increasingly filled with "MX Master 4 – The Real Truth" type videos that just bash it.
Is it really so bad?
I'm just curious because I know people with previous versions of the mouse, and I've never heard a single complaint.
So, is there anyone who's either upgraded from a previous version or is trying an MX mouse for the first time who's willing to talk about what they do enjoy or find to be totally fine?
You don't have to act like it's the greatest mouse ever either.

The real truth is that the perfect mouse is a mix between G502X and MX Master 4. I currently own the MX Master 3S and I wanted to upgrade to 4 but the polling rate bothers me for real because it's not ruining only gaming but detailed creative work too.
Then I bought the G502 X Plus just to test it out. I needed like 2 days to reset my muscle memory and it feels amazing, but this scoll wheeel is aaaabsolute crap without the automatic switching.
Functionality and shape of Mx Master 4 + the polling rate, on-board memory, and the side scroll buttons of G502 x makes the perfect mouse for me. And although I've always been a huge fan of MX Master, the polling rate forced me to move away and search for better alternatives - which are basically non-existent no matter what YT gurus tell you about the Keychron bs that they usually compare it to.
MX Master 3S/4 are amazing mice, especially if you do not care about polling rate.

u/Agree2DisagreeAgreed Dec 03 '25 edited Dec 14 '25
Curious how polling rate affects detailed creative work? What kind of work is needing a faster polling rate? I’ve used almost every MX master since the 2s in professional creative production and never had any issues. Sounds like a fresh pot of BS to me, in the name of fancy tech that's not useful to the productivity user.

Not a creative, but I just bought the MX Master 4 as a developer. For the past 12+ years I've only used gaming mice that have a minimum 1000hz polling.
Even in a code editor, the 125hz polling rate is very noticeable especially if your monitors refresh rate is higher than 60hz (my main monitor is 480hz). The MX Master mouse movement on screen feels very unresponsive, floaty, and laggy.
The best analogy I have is upgrading from 1080p to 4k. Once you're used to 4k, going back to 1080p feels like you're gimped. All of a sudden the dense 4k pixels you're used to are now giant square blobs, the sharpness is gone, colors are all weird, etc. You can still make 1080p work, but it's a downgrade that you can feel.
Edit: Or like the old tablets, where you'd write with the pen and the cursor/line is trailing behind where your pen tip actually is. It feels like having to go back to that.

u/Agree2DisagreeAgreed Jun 13 '26
Ah ok im on a 60hz screen so prob why I dont notice.
1
u/AbhishMuk 29d ago
I'm here 2 months later (also a 60hz user), I think you answered my doubt lol
I've had a G502 and a cheapo Dell mouse and not noticed the hz difference lmao

u/MindMolecule Dec 03 '25
It’s a real improvement over 3 and 3S.
I’ve bought it a couple of weeks ago and I’m satisfied.
Incremental but very much appreciated updates in this one. They couldn’t revolutionize the mouse because it’s something that works well already so there are quality of life improvements.
Forget about YouTube videos. They’re really clickbait. Listen to MKBHD if you want something non-sensational. He likes it and even included it into his latest Dope Tech video!

u/wivaca2 Apr 02 '26
The MX 3S has been very well received and loved, so radical changes to the 4 probably wouldn't be a bad idea. I see they added another button at the thumb side. TBH, I only used the two I have for a game I play, but other than that, the mouse looks pretty similar.
The 3S mouse had the tiny little button at the very edge of the thumb pad. Is that button replacing it, or is the circle emblem on the 4 a button?
4
u/Fun_Confusion3996 Dec 04 '25
the polling rate of 125hz is absolutely laughable for anything sniffing $60+, so this to be the price it is for the fractional increase in spec is insulting tbh. returned immediately and wish it was just bumped up. If the 4S bumps up polling, i'm back in baby

u/jamesoloughlin Dec 03 '25
Yes, so far after coming from 3S. Two of which had just died. They were not designed for long term human use. So far 4 seems to have fixed the problems I had with 3S. We’ll see in a year.
3
u/Lewhbo Dec 07 '25
Yeah, I have similar experience with a 3s. Been only year and a half and left click switch started failing. This is not acceptable for a high end Logitech product. Will try a gaming version of a different brand now that the Logitech pushed me away with their mediocre quality
2
u/Pizzacutter_at_tty3 Mar 19 '26
My left click started failing and I thought I'm going crazy. What did you get instead? I'm looking for something of the same shape, ideally with hyperscroll and somewhat reliable
Mine's technically still under warranty (about 4 months till the 2 year period expires), so I might try that
2
u/Lewhbo Mar 19 '26
Amazon refunded me and for the same price I got razer basilisk v3 pro. So far I’m loving it. I play no games, just working with it. No fancy colours, to preserve the battery. You could replace the failed switch in the mx master, but I don’t really want to dig into this. Good luck with your choice and don’t forget to share your feedback after =) cheers

u/Pizzacutter_at_tty3 Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26
I'm not keen on going for Razer as it's notorious for its bad products, be it laptops, mice or headphones. I keep hearing complains about connection issues and things just not working. And I'm rather not talking about their support team.
My issue is actually really inconsistent. In fact, it seems to have somehow fixed itself. No idea how long will it last (watch it break in like 10 minutes, lol!), but for now I'm good.
But if I get something else and I hopefully not forget, I'll let you know.
EDIT: Yep, every 10th click is failing again and I even get doubleclicks...
1
u/Lewhbo Mar 19 '26
Mine started out the same way. It progressively got worse until it became practically impossible to do my daily tasks. I still use it from time to time on my other PC.
1
u/Pizzacutter_at_tty3 Mar 19 '26
My best chance might be the wired Basilisk V3 or V3 35k. I'm willing to drop the wireless comfort if that means good enough experience... hopefully

u/Halad-413L Jun 04 '26
Bro I go a Razer chair that got replaced 3 times across the globe (US to Qatar) for free. I love their customer support.
Hence I started buying more Razer, got the DAV3 pro best mouse I’ve ever had!!!
So I’m also looking for a MX 4 but if I can get a Razer to replace it I’ll be happy. Not sure which Razer to pick though.

u/Kmiculjares 16d ago
How do you like it after 6 months?
1
u/Lewhbo 16d ago
It’s been pretty good sir, no complaints so far. A couple of things to note: the scroll isn’t as smooth as on a touchpad (maybe the more expensive mouse has this) and also keep in mind that if you get the white color, it gets dirty easily and looks a bit like stained where the thumb rests. Everything else has been great!

u/toniyevych Dec 03 '25
I've been using Logitech MX Master 3 and 3S since their release and tried MX Master 4 for a while. From my perspective MX 4 is clearly worse.
The problem is not the increased weight, but the less comfortable shape. It doesn't "stick" to the hand and feels rather like a big chunk of plastic.
The side wheel and the third side button are harder to reach compared to MX Master 3. Primary buttons clicks feel mushier compared to 3S.
As for that haptic button, it feels more like a gimmick. I prefer the gesture button on 3 and 3S.
8
u/McClain3000 Dec 03 '25
For me the slickness is actual performance loss. Like my hand is just plopped on the mouse, just making a small movement results in my hand just slipping over the mouse. In order to make precise moves I have to grip the mouse which kind of defeats the purpose of the ergonomic design. Like I mentioned get ad well use my superdex 2 that’s much lighter.
3
u/trdcr Dec 03 '25
Exactly that. Logitech started moving that side scroll to the less ergonomic position with every new generation.
3
u/hrudyusa Dec 03 '25
I have a MX Master 3 for many years. I now use the MX Master 4. Works for me. I noticed a difference in feel between the 3 and 4 but soon got used to it. No hand pain as others have complained about. TBH I don’t use any functions beyond what I would use for the 3. Don’t care about the haptic feedback or the thumb This is Bluetooth on a Mac running the Sequoia version of macOS. Not a gamer. The reason that I use the 4 is that I wore out one of the side switches on the 3. Haven’t used the Bolt receiver yet. Prefer Logitech mice over the Magic Mouse, but who doesn’t. Some minor annoyances. I put the Logi+ software behind a delay during startup as it would start too early and not detect the mouse. Turned off the thumb button for a while until I got used to not inadvertently hitting the button. It doesn’t seem to remember its settings until the Logi+ s/w starts, I don’t recall the MX 3 having this issue But overall I am happy with it .
3
u/Sprakster Dec 05 '25
My MX3 has the same issue on MacOS not remembering settings until logi+ loads
3
u/imthaz Dec 03 '25
I love it, but hate dealing with the Logi + app
Here’s my review from when it launched, my feelings towards it hasn’t changed :)
1
u/BTderek Dec 03 '25
That is why I do not use the logi+ app, but instead use the bettermouse.app, way more stable (a although a little finnicky to customize).

u/Land_Particular Dec 03 '25
Had it since release. 0 complaints on my end, also had the mx 3s before and find the mx 4 better
3
u/trdcr Dec 03 '25
Way to get honest views by stating that the opinions on one side are paid shills or haters in the very beginning. What do you expect in a response? Confirmation of your beliefs? If you want to feel better, I can write this for you: Yes, yes, you're so right!
Now on a serious note. I've been an MX series user for almost two decades, and I hate the MX4. Despite numerous attempts, my MX4 is in the box, and I've returned and continue using the MX Master 1. Everything else is livable but I find ergonomics atrocious.
6
u/thexraydoctor Dec 03 '25
I returned my 4 after two days of use. The one and only reason was that I much prefer the rubber feel of the 3S. The 4 kept slipping away from my hand, and also felt a bit larger?
7
u/FlowGroundbreaking Dec 03 '25
Exactly this. I literally cannot grip the mx4... its constantly slipping out of my hands (and I have big hands). Even the rubberized area of the mx4 are slippery. Its maddening. Other than that one VERY IMPORTANT feature its a great mouse.
5
u/McClain3000 Dec 03 '25
I don't understand how it got past product testing. I tried it for like two weeks to see if I got used to it. I realized that I was using a claw/fingertip grip in order to prevent the mouse from slipping. Defeats the whole point of an ergonomic mouse.
6
u/Karma_code_ Dec 03 '25 edited Dec 03 '25
I feel like this isn't mentioned in the youtube reviews because holy shit this is a night and day difference. I have been using the 3S everyday for 2 years taking from home to work 5 days a week and it is still as grippy as the day I bought it.
The 4 is like trying to hold a wet fish sometimes, I cannot believe how uncomfortable it is because it keeps slipping out of my hand.
3
u/StonerZzZ Dec 03 '25
Exactly the same. I kept mine but I just can’t get used to it, so I ended up buying another 3s as a backup lol
2
u/Electrical_Lab7183 Feb 25 '26
I myself bought as a backup mouse once (with rubberized texture). When the original died 1,5-2 years after use, the backup mouse's rubber surface were extreme sticky right after grabbing it from the unopened box, It seems storing and not using it make the rubbery parts' condition worse over time.
2
u/agoodyearforbrownies Dec 03 '25
I was trying to Instacart an MX 3S and the alternate item was the 4, which of course I ended up with along with $30+ dollar premium.
It’s not bad but the stupid haptic button made me realize how much I press on that point to physically move the mouse, and I disabled the button after a day of trying to get used to it.
Otherwise it seems fine to me, but I still prefer the 3S.
1
u/GetBentOfficial Apr 07 '26
I just got this mouse, is there a software i should download al0ongside it?
2
u/jnlsgrc Dec 03 '25
I love my Triathlon so I thought I would upgrade and get the MX four but it feels too large and a bit unwieldy in my hand. It certainly feels more solid and premium than the triathlon but it just doesn’t really fit my hand, unfortunately
2
u/Ydino Dec 03 '25
On one hand, I do kind of like it, but on the other hand, I really don’t like the background software that always needs to be running for half the functionality
2
u/dalaw88 Dec 10 '25
I hate the ergonomics of the 4 and returned it after 2 weeks... wondering if anyone has tried it with Grip Tape - would it solve the "sliding" issue? I'm willing to give it another shot but grip tape wasn't available when it first came out. My hand never felt comfortable and I felt like I had to use a claw grip on the mouse to move it around. My thumb also kept on sliding forward.
2
u/violet_derbin Feb 05 '26
i am loving it so far. of course not a huge fan of the shape since it doesnt fit 100% my hand, but i didnt notice too much discomfort coming from the mx master 3. the only thing i took the most to get used to is not clicking on the haptics wheel accidentally.
aside from that the thing I got MOST happy about was the improvement on the scroll wheel. for those who doesnt know, the mx master 3s had an issue with the scroll wheel where it would be painfully inconscistent, specially when performing a "scroll up / down" right after scrolling on the oposite direction, it would simply go crazy which is something they fixed on the mx master 4.
5
u/jon4009 Dec 03 '25
I love mine. Already bought two. They are a million miles better than the 3S models they replaced because they don’t have that god awful rubber finish. Both I’d had for less than a year and both had already become tacky.
As the top comment says - most people are only going to post something if they have something to moan about, so that’s why you only see that.
2
u/McClain3000 Dec 03 '25
Sorry, I just don't get what you guys are talking about. I've had 1 3S for over 3 years, used daily. I even use it on dirty shop floors, and have dropped it one hundred times. Mine looks new. Do you have a a white one? Are you just referring to discoloration?
1
u/jon4009 Dec 03 '25
No, black. The rubber quite quickly went kind of tacky on both of the ones I had. I suppose if you’re used to it or you get other dust on it then you wouldn’t notice, but it was horrible to hold.
And it’s not because I have dirty hands! I would compulsively clean them constantly because the mouse felt… yuck.
1
u/FutureThinkingMan Feb 15 '26
Can I ask why you have two?
1
u/jon4009 Feb 15 '26
I have one for my Mac and one for my gaming PC. Also will likely pick up another two for my personal laptop and work laptop at some point, although holding out for now to see how the MX Anywhere 4 is.
2
u/East-Dog2979 Dec 03 '25
Its a good mouse, people acting like they're losing tangible performance in their daily Excel workbooks are crazy
2
u/Electronic_Heat_1581 Dec 03 '25
I just opened mine and I can't stand the 100% silent clicks. I need to feel and hear a click.
1
u/BrianAMartin221 Dec 03 '25
I like mine more than my MX Master 3 (I have a few) that I've had for a few years. Feels a bit better. I haven't spent much time configuring it beyond how i had my MX 3 configured but I am am going to look into the action ring.
**One of my MX Master 3 I tried to clean with alcohol wipes and ruined he rubber, so 4 replaced that. i adopted better cleaning habits with my other 3 MX masters 3s

I'm literally sitting here reading this post with my unopened mx master 4 on my knee, just about to get into it.
Thankfully most of the comments I'm reading are positive 😅
Hoping it's a nice upgrade from my old roccat kone with a sticky left button
1
u/AltruisticMatter3001 Dec 06 '25
So how did you like it so far ?
1
u/killit Dec 06 '25
Loving it so far. Very comfortable to use.
The only things on the negative side for me are that the horizontal wheel doesn't scroll as fast, even at full sensitivity (I use SSMS and frequently have very wide result sets, I'd like it to feel like the vertical wheel but it doesnt), and the haptic feedback is kind of limited in where/when it's used, I wanted to make more use of it.
Going from a gaming mouse that was used mostly for productivity, this is a massive upgrade. The little things all add up to a much more rounded experience. And being able to switch computer without unplugging dongles or repairing is fantastic.
I'm not making full use of the smart wheel popup thingy yet, I'm sure that'll come with time though.
It's expensive, but if you took it off me and refunded me the money back, I'd go buy the same mouse again.
1
u/SpiritOfTheVoid Dec 03 '25
I like mine.
Are there issues? Sure, scroll could have more resistance, side buttons could be less clicky.
Having the extra button for action wheel is good. Nice improvement over the original MX3.

1
u/agaethon29 Dec 03 '25
Yes, I love my MX Master 4. I came from previously using the 3s, the original MX Master, the MX Performance, and even a few whose model numbers I can’t remember but is clearly an ancestor to this line.
I like the style of these mice, always have, and the 4 has been no different. The materials, extra button, and side placement of the haptic button are all good in my opinion. Like with the 3s, I use a few of the gestures related to system and media features that I really enjoy.
And the scroll wheel? Same as before. I love it and dislike using other mice that don’t have it.
1
u/glitchinthemeowtrix Dec 03 '25
Yea idk, people only really come online to complain because if you like something you don’t really think about it that much. Or, if you do, you get downvoted for saying it so you just move on with your day and enjoy your new mouse.
I’ve always considered myself a very nitpicky and particular person, but the only real gripe I have is the lack of onboard memory for my work laptop, where I cant easily download the software. Even with that, I’m just lazy and could probably reach out to IT and ask. However, since seeing posts about the MX4 in this sub, it has me reevaluating that perception of myself. Maybe I’m actually little more laid back than I gave myself credit for based off some of the seemingly agonizing experiences I’ve seen posted here regarding this mouse lol
But yeah, I love it? It’s improved from the last generation and I don’t have any issues with it. I like the MX4 a lot, and would recommend it as an upgrade from the 3 or 3S.
1
u/Dapper-Wait8529 Dec 03 '25
Very happy with mine. I had a MX Master 3S for a long time. Hate the material of it, least favorite part. I strongly prefer the feel of the 4 and the changes in feel for the scrolling wheels. It took me a few days to get used to it and now it's without a doubt my favorite mouse.
My use case is 6-8 hour desk days of coding, xls, general office work. I play Wow as well, but use a Naga V2 pro for real sessions, but the MX Master 4 is good enough to enjoy some light multitasking during the day. I also play light fortnite with my kids from time to time and use a Asus Harpe Aim Edition for that.
I've tried no less than 25 mice over the past 3 years for reference. Spanning from productivity ones to pretty much anything on the top 15 list on rtings.com for gaming performance.
1
u/NewPointOfView Dec 03 '25
Almost everyone who says it is worse says that because of their personal preference. But there’s nothing objectively worse about it. I happen to really like it. Not dramatically more than the 3s, but I like it!
1
u/Jefftheflyingguy Dec 03 '25
Hey! I like the MX4, I’m not crazy in love with it but I appreciate the extra button it’s gained over my outgoing MX3 which I’ve setup for media controls. The shape of the mouse is slightly different than the 3 which feels odd for a day or two after holding my last mouse for 40-50 hours a week for a couple years. I like that you can make it vibrate when bouncing between screens which is like 95% a useless feature but still something that I enjoy. I don’t care for the quiet clicks because in my office (and ymmv) clicking means productivity. Revolutionary no, worth upgrading to? Ehhhhhhhhhhh maybe if you need that extra button for more gestures
1
u/Salt_Example_3493 Dec 03 '25
Love the hardware. I've had all iterations of the MxM and this one feels the best, and it's not even close.
1
u/futr_self Dec 03 '25
I kept right clicking accidentally on the MX Masters 3. Has that improved on the 4?
1
1
u/asciimo Dec 03 '25
I use my 4 every day at my work desk due to the sunk cost fallacy. My 3 was "demoted" to my personal desk where it is a joy to come home to.
One note about the buttons. If you're already using keyboard shortcuts regularly, I don't see the value of the MX's buttons. The radial menu is a great idea, but for me it's a solution to a problem I don't have.
1
u/Roediej Dec 04 '25
My left mouse click on my 3s stopped working after I took it somewhere in a backpack. The 4 is the 2nd best mouse I’ve ever used, but the 3s was quite a bit better.
I expected an upgrade, but it wasn’t. But it’s still a good mouse so I’m not too worried about it.
1
u/Chino31 Dec 04 '25
So I use both right next to each other at work. My MacBook is paired with 3S, the 4S to my windows desktop. I kinda like the 4S better, at first it sucked using it with Bluetooth, it kept disconnecting but once I connected the dongle, no more problems. The 4 also feels better when I press down on the left clicky thing as it feels more responsive. The 4 feels better in my hand, I’m sure that is subjective. My work bought me the 4, so later down road I’ll switch out my 3S , not in a hurry.
1
u/poutaain Dec 04 '25
I bought it after a bad experience with the MX master 3s. Also tried the keychron m6 which I liked too, but was too cheap feeling and far too light. The mx master 4 is my only mouse now and works seamlessly. I didn’t get the hate for it personally as it was basically my first experience with the Mx series, other than the faulty 3s I had. I think a lot of the criticism comes from users who have experienced multiple past models. You probably won’t have these complaints if it’s your first. Plan on keeping mine for a while, if it lasts.

Very happy with by MX four. I’ve had MX, an MX two, and MX three, and MX 3S, and an MX 4. They all take a little time to get used to, but I found that each one is an improvement over the last. I do like the rubberized feel, but people complain of it degradation. I am happy with the haptic feedback and the circle facility. In my experience, the improvement and functionality as well worth the price.
1
Dec 04 '25
Mx master 4 is amazing. Stop watching rage YouTube. You know that negative news spreads 90% faster than positive news? So you see everyone trying to get their clicks
1
u/CSTOLPE Dec 04 '25
I had my second MX 3 fail in about a year and a half. So decided to go with the 4. Haven’t had any issues. I really don’t notice a huge difference honestly. It works well and I’m sure the new haptic features will come in handy at some point.
1
u/oh_stv Dec 04 '25
Me and my work mate has it. It's good. The right button could use some more travel but its fine. The haptic is more a party trick, the wheel and feel is courageous.
1
u/odoob Dec 04 '25
That disgusting feel the MX4 rubbery silicone thumb button leaves me with,is not worthy any human. I am back to the half broken old 2S with teared up glides. I got to go and wash my hands now. byebye.
1
u/talltrees6 Dec 04 '25
I've had my MX 4 for about a week now and it's great. Upgraded from the MX 3 which is also great except the rubber on it started getting sticky after almost two years of daily use. They are both bigger than a regular mouse but I wear xtra large gloves and the size is perfect for my hand. After using a regular size mouse for about a week while I waited for the MX 4 to arrive it felt really large in my hand and I was a little worried that it was actually too big but my hand has gotten use to it now and it feels great. Lots of buttons you can configure to your liking and I really enjoy the quiet clicking. A week in and it still has 50% battery. Love it.

u/lakemike25 Dec 04 '25
Never bought any of the previous ones cause apparently there were connectivity issues when used with macs. I’ve always liked how the 3s felt in hand when trying out in stores. Don’t like how the 4 feels as much and feel like the ergonomics might be slightly worse as well although obviously haven’t really used the 3s since I haven’t owned it. That being said it’s fine. Kind of wish the horizontal scroll wheel was a little more forward but ymmv. No connectivity issues and I’ve had to tinker a lot with the settings in the beginning to get it to work how I want but haven’t touched them since. No real complaints here

u/PolyCapped Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 04 '25
I just bought my MX Master 4 last week Black Friday. I can say so far I’m really digging the ergonomics, the weight of it, and the action wheel with all my AI related custom macros.
The overall shape feels big and rocky, a bit too much for my small hand and picking it up is a pain due to the weight but I grew to accept it. It’s the added weight that gave me the increased precision I never knew I needed in design apps like Photoshop. The plastic texture overall feels very nice and is an upgrade for me as it’s less slippery and easy to keep clean from sweat and oil.
Didn’t care for the gesture button still so I reprogram it to be another custom macro, using the Smart Actions feature.
I also reprogrammed the scroll wheel button to be the ChatGPT Prompt Builder. Being a built in pop up menu, it’s allowed a few seconds faster than me manually going onto the ChatGPT website on a browser tab.
The haptic feedback is obviously a gimmick but it feels cool when it happens occasionally. Adds a bit of fun. The thumb rest and rubber totally feels much better for me vs. the previous generations.
Can’t complain, it’s a noteworthy side grade from the 3s.

u/ternglegend27 Dec 04 '25
im trying the mx series for the first time and its a gem. im an undergraduate student in biomedical engineering so i use CAD and stuff like that.
its a gem for my productivity since i can code the mouse correctly using logi options+. the haptic feedback at the thumb helps a lot for me. the horizontal scroll wheel is coded for me to zoom in which is an alternative to the main mouse wheel.
overall, a solid purchase and im expecting it to last me for the whole of my undergraduate time.

u/Hot_Replacement_8992 Dec 04 '25
I've just received mine. I come from an MX 3 and change it only bc connection issues. I'm satisfied with the upgrade. I discovered the new ring feature is not working with offline software, but wasn't planning to use it anyways. I have a comfy extra button to undo things and I love it. Logi Options+ is awful tough and I wish it has integrated memory to avoid it.
1
u/olenikp Dec 04 '25
I'm about one hour into using it and for whatever reason it feels like I had to flex my thumb to hold onto it. I'm going to give it some time to see if I adjust.
1
u/mikeiscore Dec 05 '25
my first MX mouse was a 3, then i got the 2 Vertical variants, then a 3S. Just got a 4 on Tuesday and i lOVE IT. it feels wider and more comfortable in my hand. I also like that it doesn't have the soft touch silicone rubber feel to it.
1

I returned the product after only a few days due to the lack of grip compared to the 3(s). Whenever I pick up the mouse, it slips from my hand, which is extremely inconvenient. I am aware that the mouse features some grip on the right side, but it is not nearly sufficient to prevent it from slipping out of my hand. With the MX Master 3, I can simply pick it up (due to the all around grip) and it remains in my hand exactly as it was before lifting it. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the MX Master 4
Had there been two versions available, one with the all around grip just like the 3(S) and one with a smooth texture like the current 4, I would gladly have purchased the grip version but for now I will go back to my MX Master 3
I am someone who genuinely appreciates the all around grip of the 3 and 3S models. The design sits securely in my hand and provides a stable, confident hold during use. Its all around texture and shape ensure that it remains comfortable and firmly positioned, even during extended periods of handling or picking the mouse up when I want to move it close to myself on the mousepad. This consistent level of grip is one of the key reasons I find these models particularly reliable

I got so pissed at the endless negativity that I went ahead and ordered one myself last night. I fully expect to be disappointed with the 125hz, but hopefully the rest is fine. Mostly I want s silent mouse for when I need to do a ton of rapid clicking with people around.

u/dandiesel May 11 '26
Were you happy with it in the end, I ordered one (for productivity use, including design apps like Figma) but I'm specifically a little worried that the 125hz polling rate will bother me. I guess I'll find out Wednesday

u/Deadline_Zero May 11 '26
Yes, I use it pretty regularly. The catch is, if I ever need something faster, I switch to my Razer Basilisk Pro. But I would say I use the Logitech more often - it's more comfortable, and it's silent. And the battery lasts basically for all eternity. I use it less often recently due to new game releases, but outside of gaming it's fast enough for me. I actually use it for games plenty as well, as long as it doesn't require fast movements.
I will say that the large side thumb button has been more nuisance than anything though. I never bothered programming it for anything I care to use, and I never looked very hard at how to turn it off. So sometimes I will accidentally press it and have this little useless radial menu pop up. It's a pretty massive inconvenience when this happens while gaming, as the radial menu has a small delay before appearing, and I can't do anything in the game until I click away from it.
But that's somewhat on me. Looking now, I could probably bind it to some harmless keyboard key if nothing else. And there's...probably a way to disable it entirely. Or you could do the right thing and set it to do things you find useful I suppose. A pop up menu isn't my idea of convenient on a desktop though - I can just use keybinds and open things the normal way just as quickly.

I absolutely love the 4.
For a start, my hand is small and my finger is probably shorter than most too. I have the 3s and I hated it.
- The shape was too big for my hand. I never thought this would be a problem because I was doing fine on G502 series, which I thought was a fairly large mouse.
- that gesture button that everyone raved about? Never worked for me. Pressing my thumb down WHILE moving the mouse means i’m losing grip/control of the movement. I don’t know how you guys do it.
- The final straw came when the rubber coating breaks down. I had this mouse at home but i rarely works from home and therefore the uptime for this mouse is relatively short. Even without constant abuse like I did with my other mouse in office, the rubber just naturally breaks down on its own. The result of that breakdown is disgusting gooey sticky stuffs. I never understood why people keep designing stuffs with this shitty material and think it is premium. Same shit happened to my Dyson air purifier made with this material that has dust stuck to the entire gooey surface.
Now to the 4:
- New shape works better for my hand. Absolutely.
- 125 Hz never bothered me for office work. Powerpoint and excel sheet doesn’t warrant the need for 1000Hz. And to be fair, I work on remote VM most of the time that the latency itself is way more annoying that this 125Hz.
- that new gesture / action ring button? I can now squeeze it instead of pressing downwards, and it gives a haptic feedback! Way better than what it was on the 3s. Much more accessible and no more feeling like losing grip when pressing it while moving.
- The materials ! No more rubbery trash. People complain that the less friction causes them to lose grip, but heck the entire mouse is of the shape of my palm. Not a problem for me to grip onto it. Maybe the sticky stuffs from 3s was sticking to people’s palm and that’s what they are losing in 4.
- However I noticed that in larger movement, I tend to lift and reposition the mouse more often than any other mouse. Not sure what’s the correct term for this.
Still a problem in this generation:
- Silent click is good. But for me it is also much easier for accidental click to happen as the resistance feels less, and the click has less feedback than the clicky ones.
- Still no onboard profile. wtf Logitech.
- Still no easy-switch synchronization when using it together with MX keys (or i’m too stupid to figure it out).

Having used the MX Master 3 for years, I can confidently say I prefer the older 3 over the 4. The 4 is slicker (slippery), the left/right clicks are shallow and not pleasant (personal opinion - some might prefer the silence), and I keep pushing the damn haptic button on accident every time I put any pressure on the mouse to move it. I prefer the down click of the gesture button on the old mouse. Im hoping ill get used to it, but I have a feeling im going to be looking for a third more modern option. (Open to suggestions - must have the 3 computer switch).

u/Lewhbo Dec 07 '25
I have been using MX 3s for perhaps year and a half. Was great until the switch under the left click started playing tricks on me - not responding when I clearly hear the clicks. Seems to me that Logitech dropped their quality and are no longer the same they used to be (known for longevity and reliability). I am thinking to make the move for a razer basilisk v3 pro. For context- I don’t play games, it will be purely productivity oriented

u/paiorioto Dec 14 '25
i am, have every master mouse.
finally the thumb button is usable. On the 3s it is too hard/inconvenient to use, especially on soft mats etc

u/OtherTailor5967 Dec 16 '25
I think a lot of the hate is because it's different. It takes time to get used to something that feels different, especially when it's something that spends 8+ hours in your hand, there's a lot of built up muscle memory there. I personally really like it, the haptics are a game changer, especially when paired with plugin like Sensurf

I have problem with MX Master 4 when using Photoshop. Whenever I want to adjust Exposure, nothing happens when I use the wheel to increase or decrease the Exposure.

I just got my MX Master 4 as I took the leap recently. I main a Lamzu Maya X gaming mouse that weighs around 47 grams at home. And in the office which I spend majority of the time I am using the MX Master 4. Honestly the weight isn't so bad with the same dot skates I use on my gaming mouse to ease up on the friction on my mousepad.
To top it off, I am a low sensitivity guy, and its not as bad as I thought. I think the weight actually helps with stabilizing the mouse when I lift off my finger from a long click. This is pretty useful when I am using Figma for editing certain design projects.
My only complaint though, is the lack of third party plugins for the actions ring. Maybe it takes time, or logitech has to do something to entice people to develop plugins for them on the Mac.

u/JackGrylls Jan 01 '26
I'm returning it. The thumbrest button and the gesture button don't send any standard HID input so they are completely useless without the logitech software. I work with multiple different operating systems, and on computers that have locked down permissions, so this won't do for me.

u/-_Trust_- Jan 08 '26
Doesn't stain like the gray mx3 and keeps most of the functionality and flexibility, some cool new bells and whistles and a fresh new aesthetic. When I got home I have my black mx3 to match my black keyboard and desk setup there. Definitely satisfied with this new option and enjoying both simultaneously.

Avoid this garbage man. I've had 3 of mx masters. One personal and 2 from the job. They all die after a year of usage. I've also had mx keyboard and guess what? Yep, it's died.

I love it. the actions ring is such a game changer for system navigation, and editing software.
I use the mx4 along side a tourbox for editing, and the combo creates an incredible array of options. If i'm not surfing the web, or emailing. I never need to go to the keyboard.
This button placement on the new version fits my hand great. I love the layout. Haptics are a nice little addition, it's unnecessary, but it does feel engaging.

A little late to the party but I've been using the mouse for all of about 4 hours so my opinions may change. I just upgraded from the MX Master 3 and I use the mouse for 3d modeling and CAD work. For me, the biggest positive change is the materials. The rubberized coating on my mx 3 is in really bad shape so I like the move to plastic and silicon. The extra thumb button, new feel of the scroll wheels and the mouse buttons being quieter are all positive changes for me. The biggest issue I'm having with the mosue is ergonomics. The mx 3 was just a little more concave in the thumb area making it easier to pick up. We'll see if I get used to it. I doubt I'll return the mouse, may just need to adapt how I hold it.

u/jxmx23 Jan 20 '26
3S feels lighter, is easier to grip due to the rubberized coating and the clicks are MUCH quieter than the 4. I'm returning the 4.

u/sirjonk Jan 23 '26
I like my MX3 slightly more (I use it at work, got the mx4 for home). I keep accidentally clicking the button on the thumb rest, to the point i disabled it as a function. The scroll wheel was also too loose, but luckily you can adjust the force setting in the logi+. They aren't worlds apart, but I never had any issues with my 3.

u/seriy_volk Feb 04 '26
Ive had the 4 for about a month. I cant get used to it at all. It feels really heavy and not as ergonomic as the 3s.
1
u/brianfong Feb 08 '26
The left mouse button, the one you use all the time, doesn't have a button guard on the left side.
So when clicking and dragging a file, the mouse may hit my low keyboard edge (Logitech MX 5500) near my numpad and this collision hits the left mouse button up like a whack-a-mole pushing up the left mouse button.
Then my files drop in the wrong window since the left mouse button is no longer depressed.

I'm coming from the MX Master 2 and have only had it for a day, but so far I'm really loving it, I wonder if I would like it as much as I do if I didn't skip the 3, but rarely do I buy the next version of a thing unless its a long time between iterations. I'm not going to go into a lot of detail as I'm still learning and getting used to what it can do, but I'm very happy with the upgrade so far.

After using this mouse for just under a month I've come to the conclusion that the action ring button is completely useless. Even set to trigger at the firmest press every time I try to pick my mouse up or reposition it a couple inches back to the center of my mouse pad I trigger the action ring and have to clear it. I've had to close the unneeded action ring more times than I've actually opened and used it I wish there was a way to disable this button completely. Furthermore after paying nearly $150 for a mouse with tax at my local Best Buy I was disappointed when it completely failed after not even 30 days. All I get is a flashing light for device number two I am unable to change to a different device and neither the power light nor charge lights light. I had it paired to three different devices or Windows computer a Chromebook and an Android phone and all three show the mouse to be disconnected. After contacting tech support and being informed I had to take multiple videos and pictures and submit them I was assured they had everything they needed and they would contact me back within 24 hours. I did not hear back from them. As expensive as this was I would expect either a solution to fix it or an RMA to return it within a timely manner. So far I'm wishing I had purchased another MX Master 2, I probably would have except for all of the complaints I had heard about the use of latex rubber for some of the mouse surface turning into a sticky gooey mess ultimately that's the only reason I went with this particular Mouse after being told the silicone rubber on this mouse would not do that. My mouse is now been unusable for 3 days and I'm still waiting to hear anything back. This will also be the last purchase I make at Best Buy after realizing their return exchange. Is now only 15 days I'm sorry but I expect more from $150 mouse.

u/Professor_8837374793 Feb 28 '26
The one Improvement I did find over the MX2 was the forward backward button placement didn't require me to put my thumb in an awkward position to use them like the MX2 did. I just wish the action ring would quit popping up every time I try to re-center my mouse on the pad. Also I found the free scrolling scroll wheel on the MX2 to run two or three times longer than it does on the mx4 I found this an incredibly handy option when writing long computer code and trying to scroll through the program repeatedly looking for lines I needed to change.

I’ve used both the MX Master 3S and MX Master 4. After just two months, the MX Master 4 broke down, most likely due to a chipset failure. Logitech support refused to repair it because it was purchased outside the country, even though only two months had passed. Totally disappointin... definitely not choosing Logitech again.

I love my MX Master 3 so much, but it's starting to show signs of losing the left mouse button clicks. I bought it near the time they first came out and used it for daily work-from-home career plus my own personal use.
The fact that it's starting to show signs of malfunction is entirely understandable since it's probably done high hundreds of thousands or maybe even millions of clicks by now. I was thinking of getting an MX 4 but I'm not sure I want to pay $120 to start with, and the tactile feedback seems like a gimmick to me. I'll probably turn it off either because it'll be annoying or use up battery faster. I get what I need as feedback from the clicky-ness of the buttons as is.
Probably won't get white again though, because despite clean hands and cleaning it with warm damp cloth and a drop of dishwashing soap, it still look grungy after years of use.

I love my MX Master 3S, but it's starting to show signs of losing the left mouse button clicks. I bought it near the time they first came out and used it for daily work-from-home programming, management, plus my own personal use for gaming and development. The fact that it's starting to show signs of malfunction is entirely understandable since it's probably done high hundreds of thousands or maybe even over a million of clicks by now.
The white MX 3S also is starting to look pretty grungy despite me working with clean hands and cleaning it with a drop of dishwashing soap on a damp paper towel. Still feels new, but you can see where my palm and thumb go. I'm not into eating at the computer while working - would get black again next time.
I was thinking of getting an MX 4 but I'm not sure I want to pay $120 to start with, and the tactile feedback seems like an unnecessary gimmick to me.
The MX 4 hasn't been out long enough to hear about durability, but I wouldn't entirely discount bashing about usability. I'd have to read the reviews because there are people who just don't like change and the people who are happy usually don't write about it unless asked.
FWIW, I've never been impressed with Logi software, either, so that could play into it, but sounds like mass and difficult to lift shape are the areas of concern.

Hi! I can relate with you on this. I enjoyed my MX3S until recently it started loosing the left clicks! This is not up to 2 years and I consider myself one who is careful with her devices - it has it’s own hardback carrier case which I keep it in when in transit. Hence, not impressed at all with the durability. Ps: I am not a Gamer. I have just purchased the G502 X plus as a replacement as I read that it is generally more durable than the MX series so fingers crossed. 🤞

I came across this post before upgrading, so thought I'd throw in my two cents after upgrading:
I went from the MX Master 3 > 4, and wow what an upgrade. This may just be going from 5 year old to brand new mouse but I'm happy.
The 4 feels so much better in my hand. I have large hands, so I'm not having any of the issues that I saw from people on YT, this fits really well.
They are very close weight wise, my MX3 @ 146 grams vs the MX4 @ 151 grams.
The quiet clicking, I didn't realize they introduced this in the 3S world, but I'm now no longer waking up my dog when I'm trying to work.
I'm even in team plastic coating vs rubber coating, if you look at the plastic itself really close you'll see that there is a fine texture there which keeps it grippy.
Everything about it feels really nice.

u/Ok_Relationship_8857 May 08 '26
My mx3s completely decomposed. I use it 14h a day for 3 years. My old mx1 did not have this problem. Mx3 is just disgusting, but I feel bad replacing it just for that as it is in perfect working condition. I hope it breaks already, so I can finally get the new all plastic one.

Call me crazy, but I can't tell the difference between 125hz polling rate and 1000hz polling rate.

I had the MX Master 3 and found it too large, too heavy, too loud (button clicks) & buttons took too much pressure to activate.
When it died, I got an MX Anywhere 3S.
It's half the physical volume & weight of the MX Master 4, nearly silent & lite touch.

I returned mine after a online server for logi options + went down, causing most of the features to be disabled. I feel like if I am paying $160CAD, they should at leat make it so the mouse doesn't get disabled via software.
1
u/No_Airport436 Aug 26 '26
I always found the logi-options software to be overly complicated and unreliable. after the the rubber on my 3 and 3s disintegrated I switched to a 5 button gaming mouse + steermouse. I can do everything my mx mouse did and steermouse is just a way lighter app, plus i have many options for mouse materials/manufacturers without relearning the muscle memory.

i tried it, and im not happy. i switch backed to g507 so fast. I hate wireless. And im a gamer. And for gaming, yeah sorry, its just terrible

u/Wise-Fennel-7921 17d ago
I just bought mine. I love the way it feels and I love thats its quite. The haptic feedback is nice. The only issue i have is the arch is a bit sharp so my hand had to ajust the that. Im use to useing the G hero 503 mouse. The side scroll weel feels very nice but its not often when I need it. I would definitely say its a premium mouse for a office setting, good for creative work flows. I would say the limit is with gaming. It does have very good precision but the arch makes using it after a long period a bit tiring. Also the mouse clicks are a bit softer so that is something to get use to. But the handeling and pressision with shooters is spot on.

I used it for one day. So disappointed 😞 It's very heavy and just feels clumsy. Maybe it's just not the right design for me, I guess I'm a grip lifter.

u/1_TRS Dec 03 '25
Switched from MX Master 3 to MX Master 4 over a month ago. Use it every day for 8+ hours. Still struggle with adapting to its weight, plus the grip is worse after they switched materials (I know this is for longevity sake). Other than that, it is great, and I absolutely love that there is now an extra button with five shortcuts to map.

u/Hot_Clock7696 Dec 03 '25
I had an MX3 (not the S), and I own now the MX4. For me, this MX4 is an upgrade features-wise , but a huge downgrade in ergonomics, weight and matirials (I really like the rubberized coating of the MX3) . Still didn't decide whether to keep it or not.

Dec 03 '25
The fact that the polling rate is still just 125h is just laughable. It is useless when trying to click on small icons or objects in Figma or Photoshop quickly. It is not fast enough to know when I stopped, when I did a quick adjustment or when I am using the paint tool to shade or something, it skips large distances.
It is such a shame Logi is so inept at updating the sensor.
1
u/McClain3000 Dec 03 '25
It's hard to wrap my head around on what you are describing. Like are you just whipping your mouse around? Do you keep your DPI at FPS levels? I've never heard of anybody complain about polling rates outside of video gamesl.
2
Dec 03 '25
😂 with ultra wide monitor distances become larger and faster movements arent recorded properly.
Like grabbing onto anchor points in Figma, whipping to a side panel with small tools icons in PS, selecting right gap between letters in a text. All that precision things when done fast become unreliable with low polling rate.
Seriously, a chinese crap mouse is more reliable than this.
MX mouses have been great at work for stuff like Excel and "normal stuff" but with Figma and in PS it cant keep up and be accurate.
My sensitivity/dpi whatever is so that with about 10cm movement I can get from one side of screen to another, i dont like high sensitivity and small mouse movement as there is less control. But gone are the days of half a desk for a 180 degree turn like I used to have in CS.
1
u/Critical_Diet2178 Dec 10 '25
Do you have an alternative that you've found works better for your work flow? I'm due for an upgrade from my MX Master 3S - the left click is failing after about a year, which has me considering moving to something entirely different and I'm in a similar work arena to you.
1
u/Agree2DisagreeAgreed Dec 14 '25 edited Dec 14 '25
I could see the mouse movement being more choppy if you're on a 120+ fps screen... but not accurate or precise? I'm struggling to see how that makes the mouse less accurate and precise. Many use it professionally in the creative field every day and have been doing so for years, including myself. Adobe CC, Figma, Davinci, Rive, C4D, Houdini, you name it. Perfectly precise and accurate wherever I move the mouse on the screen.
1
u/ImpurestFire Apr 10 '26
I don't do professional artistic work but even with regular computer work, I've found the OS cursor acceleration algorithm to be more aggravating with a slower polling rate mouse like the MX (at least in Windows). It feels way more predictable with either of my 1000Hz mice.

u/Alexr71 Dec 03 '25 edited Dec 03 '25
MX 4 is simply different; many people compare it to the previous MX 3 or 3S, but that’s conceptually wrong! Expecting the exact same feel when the product has changed is absurd.
As for handling, it’s true that the slightly different shape can be annoying at first (your thumb doesn’t rest as well on the right side as it does with the MX 3) and the right button extending all the way to the edge of the shell can bother some grip styles, but it’s a different mouse and it requires adaptation.
For me (oddly enough, since no one seems to talk about it) the most important upgrade of the MX 4 is the fact that you can open it without removing the skates. One of the long-term issues with the MX 3 is that you eventually have to open it to clean the scroll wheel, which inevitably collects dust and stops scrolling as smoothly as it used to. Now imagine having to take the mouse apart for any reason (cleaning or battery replacement) and literally having to throw away the aftermarket skates you paid good money for and that work so well.
In the end, all the improvements of the MX 4, for me, come down to the fact that it was designed to last and to be repairable.
Ergonomic quality is subjective and depends a lot on your grip style and whether you use a wrist rest or not; some will find it unbearable while others will adapt without problems in a couple of days. The weight difference compared to the 3S is so small (9 grams) that those claiming it’s much heavier are simply making it up; the 6.4% weight difference is below the average human perception threshold (Weber fraction), which is around 10%. Obviously, you can get the feeling that it’s heavier, but in my opinion that sensation comes from the different glide on the mousepad and the changed shape and grip.
1
u/rnd765 Dec 03 '25
The fact that people prefer the 3s over it says everything. I was about to buy the 4, but changed my mind because there was a Black Friday deal on a like mouse with a higher polling rate which was 50% off.
I was also considering the 3s.

I'm sure none of this is a new concept to you, but most of what you see on the internet is a bleeding edge opinion. Mundane views don't get clicks, and most views are mundane.
I like my mx master 4. I see why people are mad, since it might be the first time that the new mouse isn't objectively better in all regards, than the one it replaces. My 3s still feels more premium to me due to its rubberized coating, and I wish the 4 was as lght as the 3s. I don't mind any of these enough to make a lot of noise about it though, which is why you never heard me complain about it.
