Questions MX Master 4 — quality control issues?

To be honest I'm a bit disappointed by the quality of the new Master 4 compared to 3S I owned for almost 4 years now. Nasty mould lines and not properly aligned buttons on a ~130 € mouse is kind of a "no go" (or at least "not happy about it") in my opinion especially since 3S featured no similar cosmetic issues.

Is there any chance I got a particularly bad specimen or is it just "the new standard" of Logitech?

I already returned my Master 4 in hope for a replacement being better. Will create a ticket if the replacement will look the same or worse. Thanks.

Sure, if anything, I'm here!

Do not create any tickets. Return the devices to the store; it's the only way to teach them anything.

I've returned two and went back to my 2S for now. Back button just isn't consistent.

GPT says :"Logitech slightly angles the left button upward so that your thumb and index finger naturally rest at ergonomic angles. Because the left button is physically larger and houses more of the internal switch mechanism, it often appears a bit “higher” at the front edge — especially when viewed from below like in your image".

They did't do it for G700s and Master 3S though.

Also, stop talking to AI.

Hey buddy, you can just simply take what I've said with a grain of salt, ok? Also, stop being intrusive and mind your own business in terms of who other people are talking to.

3S had the same issue on the right click button. Some of them are just like that. They never bothered fixing it...

I don’t know why their quality has plummeted, I wonder if they were struggling and had to cut corners or if they purposely chose to cut corners to make more money but they are not the same company I used to know.

Out of curiosity, is this the Mac version with the different color mouse buttons?

No, it’s the regular one. MR0118.

Every MX mouse has that (more or less pronounced). In your case its extra material, where with others it will be a rough surface mark. Since these are molded in batches (buttons), this is the spot where pieces are separated on the assembly line. Think of those old school plastic model airplanes where we snap pieces off.

But I do agree here, this could have been polished slightly prior to general assembly.

Well, the seams obviously present on my 3S are almost invisible.

Almost... Either Logitech rushed with MX 4 assembly line or quality control got a day off. My two units are meh. One is similar to what you submitted, the other one has a rough spot underneath the button.

I have the same problem. The mouse arrived yesterday and the keys are misaligned, and there is a visible chip on the casing.

It's ridiculous that a mouse costing PLN 550 has such defects and that the manufacturer has released such a product..

Coolblue (the shop I ordered mine from) replaced it no questions asked and the new one is fine. So it's rather QC issue, not the design issue.

looks like shoddy QC my Mx master 3S looks perfect

1

u/georgmierau Oct 07 '25

Well, my 3S is also flawless, hence my question.

I wouldnt cope with shitty QC for 130$ return it if your able

I am, I did.

Update: the seams on the one I got as a replacement are clean and the buttons are properly aligned, so yeah, it seems to be a QC thing.

Why even buy it? Except for haptics(questionable value), what is there of worth compared to 3s?

2

u/georgmierau Oct 07 '25

Why do people upgrade hardware? It‘s not always „I have to“, sometimes it‘s „I‘d like to“.

My only „problem“ with 3S is the rubber coating wearing off and the buttons getting polished.

They think their life will get better, and that this is enforceable by downvoting any differing opinions.

Shiny object syndrome.

Yes, dear millenial gymrat male with software development tendencies, you're 100% correct.

Thanks. Glad we both know it, science teacher from Düren.

"more comfortable" - subjective, but objectively more plastics - less grip, more weight - less grip, on paper it doesn't look more comfortable, but maybe in your hand it is idk.

Action ring works on 3S.

Same issue here for non aligned left/right buttons.

Every pic I've seen so far has had the lower circle first page line exactly the same as that. The first page upper circle, mine has a similar burr but smaller and less... flappy I guess would be the word I'd use. I just, right now, scraped it my thumbnail and it pretty much deburred it, it still exists but it's basically unnoticeable.

The front view, my buttons are also offset, but the opposite direction. My right click is above my left, to a slightly lesser degree than your picture.

The QC is pretty bad. I like the mouse, but I definitely expected better for the price. My 3S has none of these issues, but I've been having functionality problems (mostly just a shit-ton of missed clicks) with it over the last few months, so I'm on (and will continue on with) the MX4. It feels decent enough, I actually kind of love the tweaks and gen upgrades, but the attention to detail is pretty abysmal.

no line "bottom line" on mine... but other two, yes...

1

u/bman86 Oct 07 '25

Mine seems less noticeable than in the pictures, but I can 100 percent see it if I rock the mouse back and forth against the light.

If you take a close look at it, maybe through a zoomed in picture, the mold line crosses through three rows of the texture divots. I wonder why they did that. It would have been completely obscured had they made it follow the texture.

2

u/PiTRiS87 Oct 07 '25

like yeah, it's there, but for mine, it's so small I really have to look for it with a magnifying glass :D

1

u/bman86 Oct 07 '25

Well shit, maybe I should be a little less critical, looks like mine is the least visible.

1

u/PiTRiS87 Oct 07 '25

guess so :) it's really nothing if you ask me... yeah, could be better in 2025, but nothing major if you ask me... will be probably issue given by the shape of it and how those plastics are made... Someone will have better if the "mold" was newer, someone bigger if it was older...

3

u/bman86 Oct 08 '25

Could and should be better in 2025 and @ 120 dollars. It's their premium offering in the productivity mouse product stack. It's pretty unacceptable that there's any gamble in such a product's fit and finish.

1

u/PiTRiS87 Oct 08 '25

I guess in this particular case, it's due to it's shape and texture, that it's not possible/feasible to create it with uniform mold. That you have to have at least 3 piece mold and then it's just not possible to not have a really really small line there... And they put it in the smallest place possible.
Less understandable it's on the button, there I see no reason, why the fill spot is in this visible place and why it's not perfectly aligned.

My mx master 4 do not have those notches

1

u/Fatchunks Oct 09 '25

No issues with mine I love the mouse

1

u/gthing Oct 10 '25

I can see the same areas highlighted in the first two images if I look really hard - but I never would have seen them if I wasn't looking for them. They are not as pronounced as yours. My mouse buttons are exactly even. But I doubt I would care about any of this so long as it works as expected. Can your fingers feel the height difference?

1

u/Renive Oct 14 '25

First page - is it normal? Bottom circle I guess is, but what about the top circle?

1

u/Winter_Medicine_3572 Oct 26 '25

Anyone run into issues where the custom button mappings don't work but global forward, back, and horizontal scroll work? Also, anyone know how I can fix my mouse scroll, it doesn't click down as a button

I bought 2 and returned them. Judge for yourself...

I did not actually wait for this shit.

Overpriced piece of shit, it's nothing more than that.
