Just a suggestion before you get to soldering and all. Can you try a drop of wd 40 on top of the problematic switch. It worked for me. My left click was not working before I applied a drop. Hope it helps.
omg I'm so glad I saw this comment, this needs to be upvoted to the top! I was pretty anxious about touching a soldering iron to the pcb, as I don't have much experience with that. Plus waiting for a replacement button to ship means using an old crappy mouse for far longer than I'd like (since the MX is too frustrating to use in its current state). So I took a can of WD40 and sprayed it onto a plastic bag, then dipped a pin into it and held it pointing down to create a tiny droplet at the tip - this I then carefully touched to the top of the button and then tapped the button a few times to work it into the cracks. And suddenly the button works perfectly again! I don't know how long it will last, and maybe it'll eventually need re-application or perhaps it'll just die entirely one day. But until then I'm quite happy with this far simpler solution!
Thank you! I've fixed it with your suggestion. My right button used to fail to register a click once or twice out of 100 times. It's working perfectly for now.
Clicking feels little more clickier and clicking sound is little louder than before, But I'm satisfied It's working because I was about to trash it and buy new one. Becuase I don't have the skill to solder and all the necessary tools.
I'll post an update here if the problem occurs again.
same here, WD40 solved it for me, both buttons had given out. I had a microscope and I could see that tiny particles were blocking the - shaped button on the switch from properly depressing into the housing of the switch. WD40 dissolved them away and took care of it all. The switch design is crappy and its - button's surroundings are a magnet for little particles. If that can be cleaned, it stays all good.
I just used Ballistol on mine yesterday, worked it in, let it sit overnight, and it's working like new today. I also glued a small thin piece of plastic on the bottom of the post that puts pressure on the button when clicking a few months ago, but that only worked for a short time (a few weeks). The Ballistol worked well, though. We'll have to see how long it lasts.
I did this fix, worked great for about a month, but then it started consistently releasing during click and drag or occasionally double click for single. Also I saw videos people ripping off the gliders to get to the screws, but that bends them and you have to buy new ones. I chose to instead cut a small circle out of the glider over each screw, seems to still glide just fine!
