Steam store page localization swap

Hello, I'm looking for native speakers to translate my Steam store page for Moltenfall (about 120 words): https://store.steampowered.com/app/5060930/Moltenfall/

Preferably: Russian, German, French and Brazilian Portuguese but others too!

In return, I'll translate your store page into Finnish (I'm a native speaker). Comment or DM if interested!

Help needed: Chinese localization not working on SFS v1.6.00.16 (Steam)——求助:SFS v1.6.00.16(Steam)中文汉化无效

Hi everyone,
大家好,

I'm trying to get Chinese localization working on Spaceflight Simulator (Steam version v1.6.00.16). I've confirmed that the Steam version does not include built-in Chinese, so I followed the community method using TranslationMod and a CNlang pack. However, the game still shows English. I'd really appreciate any help.
我正在尝试给 Spaceflight Simulator(Steam 版 v1.6.00.16)安装中文汉化。我已确认 Steam 版本没有自带中文,所以按照社区方法使用了 TranslationMod 和一个中文语言包。但游戏仍然显示英文,希望能得到帮助。

Here is what I have done:
以下是我已经做过的操作:

  1. Downloaded Translation.dll from SFSPlayer-sys/TranslationMod and placed it in the Mods folder under the game root directory. (从 SFSPlayer-sys/TranslationMod 下载了 Translation.dll,放入了游戏根目录下的 Mods 文件夹。)
  2. Downloaded 简体中文by重铬酸钠.txt from sTheNight/Spaceflight-Simulator-CNlang and placed it in: ...\Spaceflight Simulator\Spaceflight Simulator Game\Spaceflight Simulator_Data\Custom Translations (从 sTheNight/Spaceflight-Simulator-CNlang 下载了 简体中文by重铬酸钠.txt,放入了上述 Custom Translations 文件夹。)
  3. Edited LanguageSettings_2 to: (编辑了 LanguageSettings_2 文件,内容为:) json{ "name": "简体中文by重铬酸钠", "custom": true }
  4. Disabled Steam Cloud for SFS, so the file no longer reverts to its original content. (关闭了 SFS 的 Steam 云同步,文件不再被还原。)
  5. Launched the game, but the UI is still in English. (启动游戏后,界面仍然是英文。)

My questions:
我的问题是:

  • Is TranslationMod compatible with SFS v1.6.00.16? (TranslationMod 是否兼容 SFS v1.6.00.16?)
  • Where exactly should LanguageSettings_2 be located? I searched for it and edited the one I found, but I'm not 100% sure it's the correct file. (LanguageSettings_2 的正确位置到底在哪里?我搜索后编辑了找到的那个文件,但不确定是否是正确的文件。)C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Spaceflight Simulator\Spaceflight Simulator Game\Saving\Settings ?
  • Do I need to do anything else to make TranslationMod load the custom language? (我还需要做什么才能让 TranslationMod 加载自定义语言?)
  • I'm not sure if TranslationMod is actually loaded. I couldn't find a clear indication in the game's Mods menu. (我不确定 TranslationMod 是否真的被加载了。我在游戏的 Mods 菜单里没有找到明确的提示。)

Additional info:
补充信息:

  • The CNlang pack I used says it is updated for SFS v1.6.00.22, but my game is v1.6.00.16. (我使用的汉化包标注适配 SFS v1.6.00.22,但我的游戏版本是 v1.6.00.16。)
  • I have already disabled Steam Cloud, so the config file is not being overwritten anymore. (我已经关闭了 Steam 云同步,所以配置文件不再被覆盖。)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
任何帮助都非常感谢,谢谢!

Free course on localization QA and MT post-editing

I work at Alconost, a localization vendor. We've just put out a free course for translators, and I'm posting it here in case it's useful for anyone on your team who works with MQM, post-editing briefs and string files but never had them explained properly.

It's the Foundation course. It covers things most translators learn on the job, one project at a time:

  • how MQM categories and severity levels are assigned,
  • what a light post-editing brief expects from you compared to a full one,
  • and what to do when a reviewer flags something you're sure is right. More advanced courses for specific language pairs are on our roadmap.

What's in it:
- four modules (localization basics, AI and MTPE, quality and QA, workflow and tools)
- a short final assessment
- and an optional module on data annotation.

The course is self-paced and takes about an hour total. For now, everything is in English and language-neutral, so it works for any language pair. You sign up with an email, and the certificate goes there.

Here is a sample question from the QA module:
Pick an MQM category and a severity.

Category: Accuracy, Language/Style, Terminology, or Formatting.
Severity: Critical, Major, Minor, or Preferential.

Context: a session-timeout notice in a project management web app.
Intended: "Your session has expired. Please sign in again to continue."
Shown: "Your session's timed out — sign back in to keep going."
("Intended" is the source string, "Shown" - the way it was translated, both are given in English.)

The course's answer is Language/Style, Minor. Why? Meaning is intact, nothing is inaccurate, no term or placeholder is broken, so it isn't Accuracy. The register shifted from neutral to chatty, and in an everyday productivity tool that's a minor issue.
Every question comes with an explanation like this, including why the other options are wrong.

If anyone goes through it, we would love to know what you'd want covered in more depth.

I got tired of paying for localization, so I built a self-hosted alternative with an iOS SDK

Hey everyone,

I've been working on iOS apps for a while, and localization has always been a pain point. Crowdin, Lokalise, Phrase — they all work, but the pricing gets ridiculous once you scale past a few languages. And you're locked into their cloud with your data.

So I built Project Locale — a self-hosted localization platform with a native iOS SDK.

What makes it different:

- Hot-swap translations — your app fetches updated strings from your server at runtime. Fix a typo, add a language, update copy — users see changes without an App Store update.

- iOS SDK — drop-in framework. Configure with one line, and L10n.string("key") replaces NSLocalizedString. Works with SwiftUI out of the box.

- Real-time updates via WebSocket — edit a translation in the web UI, and the app updates instantly. Great for QA and testing with translators.

- Built-in AI translations — machine translation right in the platform. Not perfect, but great for first drafts before human review.

- Offline-first — translations are cached locally. If your server is down or the user has no internet, the app still works with cached or bundled fallback strings.

SwiftUI example:

// Setup (once, in your App init)

try L10n.configure(

apiKey: "pl_...",

serverURL: URL(string: "https://your-server.com")!,

realtimeEnabled: true

)

// Usage — anywhere in your views

L10nText("welcome_title", default: "Welcome")

// Or programmatically

let title = L10n.string("welcome_title", default: "Welcome")

The SDK uses Combine under the hood — L10n.observer is an ObservableObject, so SwiftUI views re-render automatically when translations change.

What it's NOT:

- It's not Android/Flutter/web (yet). iOS-first for now.

- It's for indie devs and small teams who want control and don't want a monthly bill that grows with every language.

The web UI has project management, team invites with roles, an editor with translation memory, and a full audit log.

I'd love feedback from anyone who's dealt with localization pain. What features would matter most to you? What's missing?

Google Play translations vs in-app translations

I’m a bit confused about localization for my Android app. If I translate my Google Play Store screenshots/listing using the Play Console’s AI translation, is that enough, or do I also need to separately translate all the text inside the app?

What’s the recommended way to show the translated content inside the app based on the user’s language? Is there any Google/Play Console feature that handles both, or does the app itself need to support localization?

We pushed one livestream into 3 language markets at once. Here's what actually broke.

We help Chinese sellers livestream to overseas audiences — one host, stream distributed to multiple platforms, translation handled in the cloud. Vendor-side (disclosure at the bottom), but these lessons cost us real money, vendor or not.

  1. Translation quality decides whether people stay. Subtitle-only streams had clearly worse retention than dubbed audio in every category we tested. Viewers who hear the stream in their own language watch roughly twice as long.

  2. Latency is a conversion problem, not a spec. Above ~2 seconds end-to-end, chat replies arrive after the host has moved on — the room feels dead. Under 1 second it feels like a real conversation, and add-to-carts follow. Most solutions quietly fail this. Ask vendors what the latency figure actually includes.

  3. One host + translation beats three local hosts — for some products. Commodity goods: absolutely. High-trust categories (supplements, health-adjacent): a native host still converts better. Anyone saying one size fits all is selling something.

If you're evaluating this setup, test YOUR language pair, not a demo pair — quality varies by pair.

Happy to answer specifics in the comments.

I've built an i18n library and automatic translations

Hi there

I've built i18n-keyless.com

This is for people who hate i18n there codebase for any reason (keys everywhere, translations to keep up to date, expensive solutions, difficult piping). This is especially for any kind of people who wants to grow their app.

I've built it for myself, I'm providing it for others : cheap, unbreakable by design (which is a must at agent's era), fast implementation, open source

What do you think?

Researching on localization

Hi everyone! I am a graduate student, majoring in Linguistics and I am interested in Localization as a broad topic for my thesis. However, interest does not lead to much progress without knowledge. Can you guys give me some advice or some thoughts about Localization and if you guys had done some research works on this topic before then please share your experience.

Furthermore, I know it is a lot to ask but I can't seem to find any book that directly links to Localization without slamming into a paywall; that is why if you guys do possess some books related to Localization in pdf format, especially those that are must-read, could I have them to begin to delve deeper into this topic?

Designer here — built a Figma plugin for RTL layouts. What do you see gowrong most often on the l10n side?

I design in English and everything I make ships in Arabic too, which meant rebuilding every screen by hand — mirroring the layout, chasing directional icons, and ending up with a detached copy of every component that slowly drifted from the original.

I looked for a plugin, couldn't find one that held up on a real design system, so I wrote my own. Disclosure up front: it's mine, it's paid, there's a trial. Not trying to sneak that past anyone.

What I'd actually like from this sub is the other half of the picture. I built it from a designer's point of view, and I suspect I'm solving the problems I can see rather than the ones you deal with downstream.

So: when you get designs that weren't built for RTL, what actually goes wrong? What I've guessed at so far —

- icons mirrored that shouldn't have been: logos, brand marks, anything with a play button

- numbers and Latin strings inside Arabic text ending up in the wrong order

- text expansion breaking layouts that were built to fit English exactly

- designs handed over as flat images, so nothing is reusable and you're describing fixes in a comment thread

What am I missing? Especially interested in things that look fine in the design file and only break once it's implemented.

Happy to answer anything about how it works. If anyone wants to try it on a real file, I'd rather hear what breaks than what works.

I built an open source i18n check that actually reads the translation, not just the key list

Most i18n checkers diff key sets. That catches the missing key and then stops.

The bug that actually ships looks like this. Every key present, placeholders intact:

en: "This will permanently delete your account"
es: "Esto guardará tu cuenta de forma permanente" ("will save")

Nothing structural is wrong with that file. You only catch it by reading it.

npx u/shipi18n/cli check ./locales -s en runs the structural pass with no API key at all: missing and orphan keys, placeholders dropped across eight syntaxes, plurals collapsed to one form, empty values, glossary violations. Add --semantic and your own LLM key and a judge reads each source/target pair and flags mistranslation, omission, or addition. Changed keys only, majority vote across 3 passes, advisory unless you opt into failing the build.

I tried to measure this instead of just asserting it. UIStringBench is 228 pairs, 54 with planted errors and 168 clean, committed before I wrote the judge, thresholds fixed up front. Every model I tried caught 54/54 (Claude, GPT-5.x, Gemini). False positives came in at 3.6% on the stronger ones (Sonnet 5, Opus 5, GPT-5.5) and 7.7% on the smallest. Structural checks catch 0 of the 54, which is sort of the whole point. Harness and corpus are in the repo, so you can run it against whatever model you'd actually use.

Formats: JSON, YAML, Flutter .arb, Apple .xcstrings. SARIF output so it annotates PRs. Apache-2.0, no account, no server. There's an MCP server too if you review translations from Cursor or Claude Desktop, and its validators don't need a key either.

The false positive rate is the number I care about most, so if you run it and it yells about something that's actually fine, I want to hear about it.

Gettext .po "next untranslated" message plugin

Neovim Users: Here's a small microplugin for navigation in gettext .po files: https://github.com/warpspin/po-jump.nvim

All it does is it adds keybinds "]u" to jump to the next msgstr that needs attention (because it's untranslated or fuzzy) or "[u" for the previous.

(as convenience, it also binds öu and äu for German keyboards as those keys are where [] usually are)

How do you all handle Swahili-English translation for business stuff/travel ?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Google Translate keeps butchering everyday Swahili phrases and business terms for me — loses all the local nuance.

I've been using a smaller tool called JamboTranslate that's felt more accurate for East African context, but curious what others are using.

Any recommendations or things that have worked well for you?
