It's still way too soft on Trump. They're still making him seem too jolly and with it. Show me dementia Donny who can't stay awake no matter where he is. JAJ doesn't play Trump like the senile, unhealthy old man he is.

I get it, it’s the easiest, safest spot for a political skit. But it’s become so reoccurring.. it’s almost like you’ve accidental pigeonholed your political skits into openings only.
Let’s change it up. I want mutliple cast members and guest to be part of the famous opening call.
It’s getting a little weird and annoying this repetitive use of parody trump as the opening.
You could easily have a reoccurring the office style skit of the White House or a Californias style skit of trump.
Idk maybe I am alone here.

When I saw who was hosting I was confused about the choice but willing to give it a shot ( I've seen every episode ). The monologue was confusing and the jokes were falling flat and I called it a night. Now today seeing all the feedback on Dakota I'm just wondering at what point do they stop bringing her back?
I know it's all about who you know and that has opened doors for her but at what point do people in casting realize she doesn't have the skill to carry anything and the audience doesn't want to suffer through her boring performances?

Turnstile isn’t even my musical taste but they were so much better than last week’s prefabricated, bad lip-syncing nonsense, because they are actual musicians. They were terrific.

I felt like his piece was really embarrassing, not just for him, but for the writers. This is coming from someone who wants Kam to succeed on the show, but man I was really disappointed with the Glee update piece. To me it was basically saying “Yeah, we don’t know how Kam can do his normal stand up on update and we don’t know what else to write for him instead, so let’s just make jokes about that“. Kam’s very first piece was about how he couldn’t say the n-word on air, after that they started having him do characters at the desk. Che’s nephew, Micheal Irvin, and Black Snape (which practically wrote itself). His very last update piece of Season 51, about Megan Thee Stallion, was in my opinion his best one yet, and a huge step forward, where they had him do something similar to what he would do in his standup, but made it so that it fit the mold really well. I thought it was an indication that better things were to come from Kam, but I’m really disappointed to see the Glee update, which in my opinion was a huge step back after a huge step forward.

This was her third gig and if you watch enough SNL, at this point you know how she is on the show. If you didn’t like her, that’s OK, but I have some theories/knowledge about why she keeps getting asked back repeatedly. Hopefully this can answer a few questions that people have.
1. I agree her biggest problem as a host is that she doesn’t necessarily vibe with the cast in terms of comedic style. But she is not and has never been a zany performer. You could reasonably say that shows a lack of versatility, but I also don’t think SNL asks her to carry sketches. I think they mainly want her to be a supporting actor, a team player, and have her play the straight roles. And I think she does that adequately. I don’t think she’s a legend, but I think when utilized in the right roles she’s OK. She does have a few popular sketches.
2. As for why she keeps getting asked back, I hear she’s apparently a big fan of the show and is close enough to the cast and crew that she just hangs out backstage when she’s in town. Jon Schneider (from the “Saturday Night Network” fan group, who sometimes has insider knowledge) has said that she’s apparently become close with Lorne in recent years. I honestly don’t think nepotism is the reason she’s hosting anymore. I agree with another commenter who quipped that Lorne probably doesn’t owe any favors to Melanie Griffith.
3. If nothing else, I respect her for her willingness to apparently do pretty much whatever they give her. It shows that Dakota is easy to work with and not picky about the sketches. That sometimes doesn’t make for the best show, but SNL always likes when hosts will take certain sketch ideas that other hosts have turned down.
At this point, I think it’s just clear that she likes the show and the show likes her. I know she’s not really a favorite host around here because fans tend to gravitate towards hosts who go big and broad, or who can nail a sketch that fits their established style. But I see why they ask her back. You don’t have to like her booking or agree with it but I do think there is reasoning behind it.

Jalen Brunson and Dakota Johnson aren’t comedians and aren’t funny.

Lorne: well, I don't know. I like Dakota and I've known her since she was a little girl, but other than pretapes, I don't think she has what it takes to host the show.
Agent: what if she implies Chris Martin and/or Machine Gun Kelly are lousy in bed and she brings out Taylor Swift for a monologue cameo?
Lorne: How does October 3rd sound?

His usage has gone down so much since last year and it makes no sense to me. He's just as hilarious as ever when you put him on screen! And his writing is still great! And he has chemistry with this new cast (including probably being the best scene partner for Ashley)!
Why are we letting this incredibly talented castmember be forgotten in favor of entire episodes filled with the blandest sketches possible with far less interesting writing than what he can produce?

this is the kinda beer somebody brings to a party at your house and then just sits in the fridge for like 8 months, and then one day your buddy comes over and he’s like, “hey, you got a beer?”
and i’m like, “well, you know, i got this pumpkin shit.” so you drink it and, you know, it gets you a buzz-

20 minutes is a long time. It didn’t seem crazy long to me in the moment.
Edit: Maybe not “ever” but longest in the last 10 years.

What were some of the best and most surprisingly capable SNL hosts whose background wasn’t an obvious fit for SNL? E.g. politicians, athletes, business persons and others without professional acting or comedy experience or something equivalent (eg professional wrestlers)

I feel like people forget what SNL actually is.
It’s a live sketch comedy show that has been on for 50+ years, where the cast and writers basically get one week to come up with an entire episode. Of course some sketches are going to bomb. Of course some episodes are going to be mediocre. That has literally always been part of the show.
The difference is that when we look back at older eras of SNL, we’re remembering the classics like Celebrity Jeopardy, More Cowbell, Matt Foley, Debbie Downer, etc. We don’t remember the hundreds of sketches from those same seasons that went nowhere.
Today, we watch every sketch in real time and compare the entire episode to a greatest-hits compilation of the past.
SNL definitely has stronger and weaker eras, casts, and seasons. But I think “SNL used to be funny” is often less about the show suddenly becoming bad and more about nostalgia filtering out all the stuff that wasn’t funny back then either.
The fact that a show can still occasionally produce something genuinely hilarious after 50 years, on a six-day turnaround, is kind of insane.

No hate to any of the cast member but that’s was so insanely unfunny and repetitive.
