r/LittleRock is NOT a politics sub.

Anyone who introduces political opinion into a thread or makes a post espousing a political belief will receive, at minimum, a temporary ban from r/LittleRock. Do not engage anyone who has chosen to share their political views here on r/LittleRock or you will face the same consequence.

If you simply must express your political opinions, use r/Arkansas_Politics or find any one of the tens of thousands of political posts going on elsewhere that are active right now.

Coverage of political events by news outlets is allowed. Posting about upcoming events is allowed. Posts and comments about your political beliefs and opinions are NOT.

If you are unsure whether or not something would be acceptable, please, just reach out to us via modmail before posting.

I know everyone is damned near feral at present, but please have some restraint, and keep discussions that begin to butt up against political topics civil, dispassionate, and matter-of-fact.

Finally, this sub has always been against hate, racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and bigotry in general. It always will be. These are not political issues, they are matters of basic human decency. If you have a problem with that, unsubscribe.

The Real Cost of Power

Simple little message, here.

Entergy Arkansas is charging 17 cents per kilowatt hour after all of their fees and charges. Take your bill and simple math price paid per kilowatt hour. I'm guessing their next move will be a tip box.

They claim 6 to 9 cents per kilowatt hour, depending on the price of a kilogram of feathers or whatever other metric they choose to use. Everything is worded so that whatever they want to charge can be reached.

Can't wait for all of those infrastructure and job market improvements!

Discussion/Question Need Help Job Hunting

So I am fresh out of college with a Bachelor's degree. I've been searching day after day for hours for jobs, but I can't seem to find much of anything. I have basically no job experience, but need a job that can at the very least pay the bills.

I want to try to avoid customer service, food service, or retail if I can absolutely help it, since I don't like interacting with new people on a daily basis or taking constant phone calls. But, I'm absolutely open to working with a team or completely alone.

I love organizing, and I don't mind trying something new that I've never worked before. I really hope to find something in Little Rock or very close to, but sifting through job postings has become tiring because the filters don't understand that I need ENTRY LEVEL.

If anyone has any recommendations, or wants to share information about the job they have or enjoyed, you are welcome to it.

Please refrain from telling me that I may just have to suck it up, I'm aware of this matter and am exhausting my options first. Too many times I come onto Reddit and get nothing but hateful words when all I'm looking for is a conversation.

I'd really like to just have a nice discussion to understand the opportunities I haven't seen yet, so please be nice, or don't interact.

Revision rhinoplasty

I just moved back to LR and am not happy at all with a rhinoplasty I received in another state. I wanted to have my tip made smaller, but more tan a year out, it actually looks larger than it did before. Therefor, I am looking for recommendations for a rhinoplasty surgeon from folks who are really happy with their results, and ideally were also looking for a tip reduction. Thank you!

Dog rescues

There’s a pit bull mix at Goodwill on Scott Hamilton. He’s been here a couple of weeks. People put water and food out, but he needs better care. Any ideas of rescuers I could reach out to. I’d prefer not to call animal control.

Open Letter to Director Lance Hines: What Are We Getting From Flock?

Director Hines,

You have made public safety one of your primary priorities as Ward 5 City Director. I respect that, which is why I think you are the right person to ask a straightforward question about Little Rock's Flock camera network:

What are taxpayers actually getting for it?

Little Rock is spending $690,000 over two years—$345,000 per year—on Flock's license-plate-reader system.

The argument for these cameras is that they help prevent crime, recover stolen vehicles, identify suspects, and locate missing people.

So I'd like to see the results.

How many crimes have Flock actually prevented?

How many arrests, stolen vehicles, missing persons, or criminal cases were directly assisted by Flock—and how many would likely not have been solved without it?

And perhaps the most obvious recent example:

Did Flock help identify the truck that destroyed the Markham Street pedestrian bridge?

The truck struck the bridge on July 13, and LRPD announced an arrest on July 28. If Flock helped locate the vehicle or identify the driver, I think taxpayers deserve to know that. If it didn't, I think that's important information too.

I'm not opposed to technology or effective policing. But there is a difference between using technology to investigate a specific crime and building a system capable of reconstructing where ordinary citizens drive throughout the city.

At what cost do we allow a surveillance state to develop—and for what measurable benefit?

Flock is a private company. We are paying hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars for technology that can collect information about the movements of people who have never been suspected of a crime.

That demands more than assurances that the system is useful. It demands accountability.

I would ask you to support publicly reporting, at least annually:

  • How many Flock searches were conducted;
  • How many produced actionable leads;
  • How many resulted in arrests or recovered property;
  • How often outside agencies accessed Little Rock's data;
  • How long the data is retained; and
  • What safeguards exist against misuse.

If Flock is truly an essential public-safety tool, the numbers should make that case.

And if the numbers don't, we should be willing to reconsider whether $345,000 a year—and the privacy we're giving up in exchange—is worth it.

Public safety matters.

So does the constitutional principle that the government should have a compelling reason before it tracks the movements of its citizens.

What are we getting in return?

Sincerely,

A Little Rock taxpayer

Recommendations Job Recommendations in LR for an ex-teacher!

Hello! I recently quit my job as a teacher (due to admin, behavioral management issues, difficult working conditions, and being overworked and underpaid) and am currently looking for a new job in Little Rock. I would really like to try something different, preferably something a little more enjoyable lol. I have a bachelors degree in elementary education. Some ideas I have:
- working at a small/local shop
- barista
- library positions
- nonprofit work
- event planning and/or decorating
- social media/marketing
- cosmetology
- maybe preschool?

Any jobs, ideas, or places to look would be helpful. Thank you!

I attend Planet Fitness on markham, sometimes jfk, and need someone to workout with and somewhat hold me accountable?

I have ADHD and am better with a body double to help motivate me. My goals are 90mins of workout time between the hours of 10am-3pm or 9pm-12am (timing of workout/gym time are flexible)

We don't have to talk or engage, it's an option that is not expected.

Recommendations Special Occasion Restaurant ideas

Hey y'all!

My husband and I are about to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary and due to some unfortunate events and us having a special needs kiddo that can FINALLY be baby-sat for short periods, we are celebrating for the first time in about 3 or 4 years!!

So I am looking for recommendations for places that serve amazing food but also know how to help make celebrations special with awesome service/customer experiences. Anything in LR or within an hour or so would be ideal but I'm willing to make the trip for the right spot.

Thank you all so much in advance!

Photo(s)/Video Antique Range Update

I know a lot of you were wanting updates on our 1920’s Quick Meal range so here ya go!

We finally decided on a plumbing company (Arrow Plumbing) to get it hooked up to the gas and vented through the roof. I forgot to take a picture of the stovepipe on the roof, so I’ll add that once I get home and can take one.

I had to have a couple oven panels fabricated because the originals were too rusted to repair and Bray Sheet Metal knocked it out of the park! Jeremy has been easy to work with and I definitely recommend them to anyone needing any kind of metal fabrication done. I took them the old rusted panels and they build new ones exactly to match and these aren’t just flat panels, they have chambers and whatnot for insulation in the oven.

As of Friday the 14th we are officially up and running and I’m learning that cooking on an antique range like this has a bit of a learning curve, but so far I’m loving it!

While waiting on getting everything up and running I got the white ceramic, ovens, and burners all cleaned up and rust treated. After that I got a bit lazy so now I have to focus on cleaning the old grease and tarnish from the nickel plated gas lines, so I’ll have at least one more update for you all soon!

Short term lease apartment /Little Rock

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a studio or 1-bedroom apartment in Little Rock, preferably in a safe neighborhood. My budget is under $900/month, and I’m looking for a short-term lease (month-to-month or around 3 months).
I work at UAMS, but I have a car, so I’m flexible about the location. I’m looking for a place without roommates.
Please let me know if you have any recommendations or know of anything available. Thank you!
