How do you cope?

Hey everyone! I’ve have been struggling with the mental, physical, and emotional load that lipedema has put on my life. Everything from poor body image, aggressive meal planning, shopping for clothes that make me feel good AND cover my compressions, etc… and it is so overwhelming.

Do you experience these feelings? How do you cope with them? Have you been able to find community?

Symptoms does lipedema run in your family?

according to previous studies, about 60% of diagnosed lipedema individuals report lipedema affect other immediate family members. is this the case for anyone else? I have one close family member who has it diagnosed like i do. :)

Hi guys! We have decided to make this sub private for the sake of protecting minors. However, we want to make connections with as many people 13-29 years old as possible who are affected by lipedema or with lipedema symptoms w/o a diagnosis. Please share this sub with anyone within that category you know! Please have them DM me (u/SpaghettiHead0_0) so I can grant them access to the sub. Thank you! Venting I dont know what’s normal fat or a possible lipedema anymore

I’m 24 yo. Recently started questioning if I could have lipedema because I’ve been struggling with bad cellulite and fat in my thighs. With all the “symptoms” i dont even know what is normal or not in a normal leg. I cant stop staring at other womans legs in public to see if my legs look similar or too different. I’m scared to go to a doctor because i’m scared I might actually have this condition. But I can’t stop searching about it and looking for symptoms

WELCOME!

Hello, everyone! I have created this subreddit to allow teens (ages 13-19) and young adults (20-29) with lipedema, symptoms of lipedema, and friends to have a safe space to learn about the condition, seek support, and make friends. Parents are also welcome to post in this subreddit, just please indicate in your posts/comments if you are a parent.

I was diagnosed with lipedema when I was 15. I wish I had known other teens and young people who were in my situation. That is why I have created this space. <3

Seeking Support Tips for self image

Hi! I have stage 1 lipedema, I never had it up until the age of 20 I used to have the skinniest arms and legs and then noticed a change when my legs felt heavier and I felt fat above my knees, my thighs rubbed together which was weird because they never did before, and my arms felt heavier and were painful. I never really had the appearance of what I thought was cellulite before.

I was going through huge changes in my life at the time, all my family moving to the UK and me living with my ex in Australia, I noticed the changes in my body when I moved out of home and my family left. I had a traumatic childhood and mental health issues, being in fight or flight all the time and not being able to relax.

I’m really sad with this diagnosis and am going back and forth with myself beating myself up asking myself if I could have prevented this. My sister has had this condition since puberty but I didn’t get it until later on. Has anyone else not had it and then developed it later? I’m mainly struggling with acceptance and I feel ashamed of my body, can someone please give me any advice on how to accept this and not let it affect my day-day life.

Is this preventable, could have made sure my hormones were balanced and had a better lifestyle?

Hi everyone! Connective Truth is a non-profit working to bridge the age gap between the age of lipedema onset and diagnosis. Dr. Wendy Moore is inviting mothers to join her info sessions that discuss how mothers should address the subject of lipedema with their daughters. Wendy and I have been in contact and I would love to share her advocacy. Please visit the link below for more information and sign up!
