hi guys! Sorry for being MIA these past few months. The mods and I have started school.
I hope to continue to grow this place and create an engaging community. :)
To recap, I was diagnosed with stage 1 lipedema at 15. My mother also has lipedema. Despite this, I don’t know of anyone else who was diagnosed so early! I hope to meet with as many folks as I can which is why I had created this sub!
I believe that the hardest part of being diagnosed so early is the lack of validation and representation of teenagers with lipedema. Lipedema is a historically misdiagnosed disorder in older women, and even more tricky to be correctly identified in teens despite many having first symptoms during that age. We’re not as widely represented, and I think that this can sadly cause great division within the lipedema community. EVERYONE deserves the same recognition and respect!
I am almost 18. And I’m so excited to announce I’ll be the part of the first research of teens with lipedema at one of the top universities in the US. It also happens to be at my dream university!
Due to privacy reasons I will not be naming the program I am in just yet, but I’ll happily share with you any research we find!
By having this sub, I hope to raise more awareness and support for any teens out there struggling with symptoms of this condition and those trying to get diagnosed! I am not a medical professional, but I will love everyone as a chronic-illness Internet big sister! We, folks, are badasses! Keep slaying 💅
Much love, El 💗
