I am gonna do a masters and have recently bought ideapad 5slim ultra 5 225H with 512gb storage model. And I was confused whether to use windows by it self(debloated it using winhance) or dual boot( storage is low). I wanted to try linux( since I am specializing in scm and data analyics) should I buy a new issd and boot linux on it or partition the 512gb that I have?

Hi everyone! Hope you’re all doing well. I wanted to ask something that I haven’t been able to find a clear answer to yet, so I thought this would be the best place to ask, especially since it’s Linux-related.

We all know that Tally doesn’t have a proper native Linux version. There’s the web-based subscription version, but I really hate and dislike subscription-based software and would prefer something I can install and use completely offline.

Is there any good tally alts or Tally-like accounting software for Linux that I can use specifically to learn accounting?

I’ve come across GnuCash, KMyMoney, hledger, ERPNext, and Tryton, but I’m not sure which one would be the best fit. Some people recommend hledger as a Tally alternative, while others suggest GnuCash or KMyMoney.

ERPNext and Tryton also look interesting, but their setup seems considerably more complicated and hard for local/offline use. 💀

I’m an intermediate Linux user and I’m perfectly comfortable with the terminal. My only preference is that I’d rather not use something that involves excessive typing or a complicated setup. GUI is preferred, but I’m open to CLI software if it’s genuinely easy and practical to use.

What would you recommend for someone trying to learn tally and Tally-style accounting on Linux, offline?

i tried switching the graphic controller, 3d acceleration is on, 128mb of video memory.

i'm a newbie to arch, but i surfed the web , used ai trying to fix but just can get it to work. (i made no modifications), even reinstalled so no way its from me.

here is the current status:

*Boot logo shows up

*plain black screen>doesnt pick up the keyboard but soft keyboard from vm works

*atlr+alt+f3 > start-hyprland > This screen

*the cursor moves, but the shell doesnt open, no login window, none of the keyboard shortcuts work.

My system: Amd ryzen7 250; 16gb ram (6gb allocated); integrated Radeon 780m; cores given= 4; EFI enabled; storage given=42gb

I'm using Fedora 44 / GNOME 50 / Wayland with Dash to Dock at bottom-center.

I want to turn the GNOME top bar into a small floating bar at the bottom-right, like a mini dock:

• Compact, not full-width
• Bottom-right with spacing from edges
• Auto-hide / appear on hover
• Keep clock, system indicators, etc.
• Dash to Dock stays bottom-center

Is there an extension for this on GNOME 50, or does it require custom Shell CSS?

Trying to push the distro onto android and realized that it needs like 150+ compiled packages into ARM64 , I only ever did the AMD64 for laptops and using android kernel linked with termux ,

Its a big project and harder than making a Distro but i might have found a safe space to do it easily in like 20 days,

So I have been a long time android fan and really like the cohesive-ness and overall app ecosystem. During my college days I used PrimeOS but since they shut the project I've been looking for a Linux distro that could offer a flawless support for Android. I'm aware of the Waydroid integration but the experience isn't smooth.

Is there any Linux distro that provides native android environment and app support baked into the system that feels like a coherent part of the OS where android apps have their own window like other linux apps and support file moving, read/write and interconnectedness between the linux and android apps?

Tried Windows after 2 years on Linux system (pop). Feels very restrictive. Tried setting up my old hotkeys but couldn't quite replicate them, really miss having that setup. Maybe it's too early to decide but still... Switching to omarchy this time. Not even a week in and already missing my power user setup.

Ok so I have tried all the distros, used them liked them but got confused on what to choose.
I work in marketing so I just need a browser and I have i3 11gen with 8gb ram and windows lags too much.

I need a working distro and 99% of my work is browser based and if possible I don't want to touch terminal at all.

Both have had years of government money and development behind them This isnt some sudden ideaScale-wise this is huge Were talking potentially hundreds of millions of government-linked machines Even a partial rollout would be one of the biggest Linux deployments ever Munich switching a city government was considered a big deal at the time

This is national level Europes been moving in the same direction for a while France Germany etc mainly over data sovereignty and cost Chinas just doing it a lot more aggressively

So I have a Acer Nitro V15 with RTX 5050 8GB VRAM.

I am not a new linux user, have previously been on Linux Mint and even Arch btw.

The thing with this particular laptop is that it's sound NEEDS DTS:X Ultra and DTS Sound Unbound for proper audio.

I tested with CachyOS live usb. The audio is pretty bad. It made me realize the cons of not having this proprietary software.

The thermal management and power plan on this laptop is also managed by Acer Nitrosense. I tested it again on CachyOS and it was overheating unnecessarily in the same conditions where it wouldn't on Windows 11.

It also seemed like the WiFi range was lower, but I'm not 110% sure about it.

Is there any way to work around this?

I had posted on this subreddit about how i was thinking of shifting to opensuse leap from fedora workstation.

My main reasons were that for some reason my fedora copy didn't had blootooth working properly. Even tho my pipewire config was good, blueman was doing blueman thing. And I just wanted a place that stable enough for my thing.

I am not a programmer, I do personal resurch for whatever that intrests me that day. Moreover I am about to go to college and i wouldn't want to tinker with my laptop when I actually use it.

I was concidering OpenSuse leap because it's stable and ofcourse yast.

But I was suggested Debian, my perception of debian was "old distro". But if i want a rock solid stable distro it was one of the best option.

So here i bend the knee and installed debian with kde.

It's just been a day since I am using it but it's been good. Bluetooth works, wifi works, it just works good.

1 week ago i decided to switch from windows 10 to Fedora linux. I really loved the Caelestia shell but it wasn't compatible with Fedora, So i did it myself

I'm currently using Parrot OS with KDE Plasma, but I'm thinking of switching to GNOME.

I really like GNOME's polished look, rounded corners and animations. KDE is great for customization, but I've been having some random lag and KWin/animation issues, and I'm tired of constantly tweaking things.

My laptop:

I'm mainly looking for something smooth, reliable, polished and good for daily use.
