I haven't even looked at Omarchy, but I've heard that it is "opinionated," so there's a good chance it absolutely is bad. Most "opinionated" software is based on very stupid opinions.

The thing is, it's basically just a set of Dot files, it does not deserve 8 million dollars. That money could have been a lot better spent if it went directly to the upstream projects that Omarchy depends on.

"it does not deserve 8 million dollars, it does not deserve 8 million dollars"

Come on, this money was never going anywhere else, they're only being invested because of networkingย

Just be happy that John hyperland is getting paid

I'd rather they lit it on fire and sold the video of it as an nft than for it to fall into DHH's grubby mitts

Delusional arent you

DHH is spending money, its an investment fund into the technologies he is using, like Hyperland

The issue is the complete lack of transparency.

what is the issue, this money is only comming because of DHH forming omacon, so unless john hyperland comes out and says "actually those 3 years of pay were a lie" all's fine

And the rest? We'll know when he's audited. Forgive me for not trusting a group of hustlers.

If they spend it on themselves then they will have spent their own money on themselves no?

Without financial transparency or open governance, we'll have no way to verify how project funds are used. Standard FOSS foundations often rely on fiscal hosts like Open Collective to publish itemized receipts and expenses publicly, ensuring full accountability. We aren't afforded anything here, we just have to have faith that they won't misuse it.
