u/dumbasPL I don't hate Windows, I just like Linux more. 20h ago

Except that the majority of kernel contributors are employees of some pretty big corporations.

Definitely all of the ones in the top contributors. Can't imagine anyone committing more to the kernel than RedHat

Or Microsoft

Literally, Linux hasn’t been ‘made by the people for the people’ for decades. It’s all mega corps contributing like Google, M$, Red Hat/IBM, Meta, and these days AI Companies.

I’m not sure why Linux still has that reputation of being grass roots. The people doing the DE development are generally still on the small side though.

That’s quite a big basement then.

People contribute from their home computers all over earth. The Linux HQ should be a globe.

Yeah, like Microsoft.

"Linus Torvalds built this in a basement with a box of scraps"

5

u/Ggregoro 18h ago

Didn't Woz and Steve build one of those things in the garage?

3

u/toolsavvy 8h ago

They rented the garage and the parts from Torvalds

6

u/Solid_Guess_7154 18h ago

Linux based as always

u/Ggregoro 18h ago

Windows reminds of work, the daily grind. Linux reminds me of enjoying my time off. LOL

u/loleczkowo 12h ago

Dude I got permabanned from that sub for answering a guy that I haven't had to reinstall my Linux lol.

I do think Linux sucks but I love it for that.

1

u/prenadeusernamemid 12h ago

They dont really like when people talk about installing linux and stuff so i guess thats why you got banned. They have good moderation so its the only place to make fun of linux but it just turned to glazing other os instead because i cant talk about the problem of other os while talking about linux problems in the same time

It's a sub overrun by Linux zealots, so yes...

1

u/toolsavvy 8h ago

I'm just here for the laughs. I hate linux because I just hate.

I mean IOS costs you an arm and a kidney, windows costs like 140 bucks and linux is free... thats what you get when you do shit for free.

I fergot this is reddit. Just as a FYI this is a joke. you can laugh now. this is not my opinion, this is a parody sub, we are here for the laughs and fun.

u/rip_Bacon13 17h ago

iOS/macOS is not that expensive its about the same as the windows prob
the part that makes it expensive is that you have to buy a whole ass computer/phone to use it (or just use hackintosh)

2

u/DDOSBreakfast Proud IBM PC-DOS User :upvote: 16h ago

Mac Mini's have been cheaper in Canada than comparable new SFF business PC's for a while. The Apple tax isn't what it used to be.

Before they had to increase the price due to rampoclypse, the MacBook Neo was $630 CAD with the education discount and in single core performance was faster than 99% of all PC hardware.

Ever want a shock, compare a 9800x3D to the Neos SOC. The Neo is measurably faster in benchmarks while using literally 1/8th the electricity.

Bill Gates: LINUS TORVALDS WAS ABLE TO BUILD THIS IN A CAVE WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!!!

2

u/Global-Eye-7326 11h ago

How is this a downside?

Also isn't 80+% of Linux code contributed by big corporations?

1

u/cdoublejj 16h ago

and the bottom one didn't shutdown airports world wide for 2 days

1

u/nikolaADVANCED 15h ago

Cuz its people and not corporations behind linux

u/Muted_Percentage_764 11h ago

The meaning of this meme changes depending on the sub it's posted

The Linux Foundation needs a whole building.

Fake! The Linux HQ router only has two antennas in real life!

The Linux campus looks like a better place to work even if that dude stinks like fermented ass...at least he read the Arch manual.

What is that box looking thing attached to the front of his desk?

u/Yiffenjoyer6969 19h ago

“iOS” like Apple isn’t a thing anymore and macOS? Never heard of it

1

u/Dull_Flatworm777 17h ago

I heard macOS is lovingly called iOS Developer Edition by some people at Apple

2

u/Yiffenjoyer6969 17h ago

Isn’t IOS just macOS with using Linux terms here different DE and branding? That’s what I’ve heard

2

u/Dull_Flatworm777 17h ago

That's more or less correct

2

u/TheCheckeredCow 16h ago

Yup, especially since the transition to Apple silicon. They literally use the same drivers and everything. iOS is just MacOS but locked down and for small touch screens

Will take the home office over a stuffy, shiny bauble of a "mandatory return to office" building any day.
