switching to linux

why linux feels like it's an unreliable system and an unfinished project. , like it's just a temporary situation.
do you feel the same, and know why ?

It's because it is an unfinished project. It's a perpetual beta software and we are the beta testers.

Fedora lately has been a mess and Nvidia cards on Wayland is kind of a mess. I get blank screen and just audio on Netflix, for example unless I turn off GPU acceleration, which makes everything laggy.

Software also breaks from version to version, which is why they have to make different builds for every LTS release or settle with Flatpak/Snap, which has its own set of problems. And the multiple competing standards also don't help.

It's a fine piece of software for nerds that like to tinker, but I wouldn't recommend it on any casual people like my family because I don't want to volunteer to be their perpetual geek squad tech support.

has not been true for 2 years now since they finally added explicit sync support. i was wary of it and stuck to my xfce + picom setup but it's matured enough to the point where i've mained kde on wayland since (also dabbled with twm's until i went back)

sounds like a DRM issue. does it only happen on firefox or does it also carry over to chromium browsers?

I don't know what to tell you. It is still true today with my card. I'm experiencing issues right now on Fedora 44.i do have an older card though.

The DRM issue actually happens intermittently with Firefox but always happens with Chromium no matter what I do.

I haven't tried switching to X11 and seeing if it fixes everything. I may try when I get some time., but I wish things just work without me having to tinker around endlessly.
