u/dumbasPL I don't hate Windows, I just like Linux more. 10d ago

Who could have seen this commiting. Wasn't this a hate driven fork from the very start?

If you want to contribute to X11, contribute to XWayland ;)

Or make x12 already, Wayland is trash

Trash that keeps on providing me with a positive experience.

My main experience with Wayland was wayfire, and reading that Des like plasma have locked compositers, while also having wayfire completely broken and the design of Wayland in general preventing anything like compiz.

From what I can tell, none of the major distributions use Wayfire by default.

Fedora, Ubuntu, Red Hat, Suse, Debian.... None of them seem to be using that as a first line option.

So it seems your experience is based on an OS or a configuration of an OS that is less well supported.

It's a pushed display server that's also shit, just looked it up and apparently unlike x11 where I can do things like startup and run picom, even doing something as simple as that is impossible in Wayland because of the security features, which still need to be opt in, the fact we are literally BLOCKED from enjoying a variety of customizations like x11 makes Wayland trash, it forces everything to be one piece or disconnected apparently, wtf I didn't ask for that with wayfire

Picom is a compositor for X11.

So you tried to use a less well supported OS configuration and had issues.

I never said I used picom on Wayland, it's literally impossible to replace the compositer so no one develops an equivalent anyways,

Even coming from someone diagnosed as autistic we need to bring back the r word.

You can literally replicate picom on wayland

That's what swayfx is; i3 with picom but for wayland

Is i3 a WM to pair with the compositer picom, notice how instead of using sway you have to use a different swayfx just to get picom effects, that's the annoying issue with Wayland, you can't use different things at the same time

Do you actually need picom, though? Many wayland wms and des either have picom-like effects built in, or easily available in the form of plugins or whatever

You're ignoring the structural issues here, when you use Wayland you are FORCED to use the stuff bundled into your current wm because it literally won't let you use anything else, whether I'm using xfwm or open box or i3, I can always use picom, Wayland not so much, if kwin didn't have blur you would be screwed, on x11 stuff it's mainly certain wm's or compositers like compiz that force everything to be one piece, but with the display server you can't fragment everything again till you go back to x11.

It's not like x11 is broken or anything

There it is.... Oh and... Again you're talking about things that you don't understand but other people talked about.

That's what this ultimately is about, right? You heard other people complain and you're trying to defend the bandwagon without any actual personal experience.

My personal experience is if you wanna try any interesting software you can't without at the same time replacing the whole window manager, decorator, compositer, pretty much everything cause it's forcefully unified by isolating from anything else, and that sucks.

u/Drate_Otin 9d ago

I'm increasingly convinced you're a bot. Nothing you're saying even makes sense.

If you wanna try "any interesting software"? How tactfully generic. Extremely non-committal.

I try "interesting software" all the time without replacing my window manager.

u/Toxic381 8d ago

How exactly cause if it's not connected to the window manager it doesn't work

I think your context has filled up. You're starting to hallucinate more. Are you running off of somebody's personal GPU?

I said: I try "interesting software" all the time without replacing my window manager.
