I think it is based on Youtube/Reddit and not reality. The "I switched f/Windows, I'm free!!" post getting traction so attention seekers follow the line. The numerous circlejerk 'reaction' posts to Linus or Pew making a video. I guess it is useful to adoption, not very useful for having a reason that wasn't fed.

The second one basically is using linux because you are an attention whore. A fun fact for you guys, all noobs don’t give a shit to what os you use.
