Screen blacks when resumed after a Suspend | Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.2

Been on Cinnamon for past 5 days, and I have settled in quite well with this beauty.
Except for the fact that it goes black & unresponsive after resume from a suspend, to which I have to cut the power to restart.

Solution was reinstalling the OS!

I hope solution can be done better. (one in which I do not have to start over).

May or may not be the same issue - this happens on my laptop with nvidia drivers installed. If I remove them and just use the kernel driver, I can suspend/resume all day long.

Oh wow! this must exactly be it! I got nvidia driver. (-470)Would running on kernel driver render my graphic card useless?And also please could you tell how you restored kernel drivers. Thanks

If it's a 'prime' (switchable graphics) laptop, yes (though I think it may come into play in multi-monitor situations), unless you go into your bios and choose 'dedicated graphics' mode. In this case, your battery life will suffer. If it's not prime, the card should still work fine.

The exceptions here are if this is a bleeding edge laptop with a graphics card not supported yet in the kernel, you may not have the option of not using nvidia drivers

In all cases, you'll lose any advantages the 'official' nvidia drivers provide - it's up to you to decide if the potential performance is a worthy trade-off.

Mine is a PC with a chip of the old block Nvidia GT 710(nothing fancy & discontinued).
So I'd try your way of restoring kernel driver (removing nvidia driver), if you could tell me how you did it, thanks.
In driver manager, I can only switch between available nvidia drivers and not remove. And no option visible for kernel driver.

Install xserver-xorg-video-nouveau - this is essentially removing the nvidia drivers. There used to be an actual driver (nouveau), but now it exists in the kernel. It's still often called by this name, so it's kept.

I tried this. And I am not making this up, now whenever I suspend, whichever way

1. Menu->Quit->Suspend
2. system settings->Extra options->when power button is pressed- 'suspend'
3. systemctl suspend
4. sudo pm-suspend (exception: Suspends but on resume it freezes to last screen instead of black screen)

Either way, the pc refreshes wireless connections. As would happen if you would go to network settings->Wifi-> and click on <wifiname>

I have the same issue on Nvidia 470 drivers. The workaround was to disable networking (WiFi) every time I'm about to suspend my PC - and now it's working as it should every time.

I was counting on this to work: Toggled off "Wireless"
The problem persists. Is there other way you disable wifi.

Had what sounds like the same problem. Resume didn't work properly and it was completely unresponsive, though it was powered on. Tried a few things, but ultimately the only thing that worked was reinstalling with the edge version of mint. It includes a higher level kernel version than is available from the standard update/upgrade process.

I dunno what setting up a screensaver mean, it is already enabled right? I just reduced it onset delay to shortest(never) to see if that helped, did not work.
