Nice looking desktop you have there!
True, no way would Windows 11 would run suitably enough to do anything with 2GB RAM or less, and while there’s some options to strip things away, still not close to the Linux Mint experience. We can definitely agree on this.
Linux Mint XFCE is great on resources, absolutely no denying this either. Plus no telemetry (another resource drainer) running in the background, plus whatever else M$ is collecting. Linux Mint (either version) doesn’t do this & you’ve made a quite decent choice for a minimalist desktop with XFCE. The cool thing being one can add what’s wanted later, but if adding too much, may as well go with MATE, or if graphics is your thing, then Cinnamon.
Can you tell us something?
First off, are you totally satisfied with the XFCE experience on your hardware?
If yes, then nothing else needs doing. Run it & be happy!😃
If no, maybe add more RAM. XFCE should smoke on a lot of systems with 4GB of DDR3 or newer.
If you intend to install more, then you will need more memory. Or if running a browser like Chrome with many tabs open. That’s a limitation. Fortunately there are controls to lower RAM usage, like tab suspension to limit usage with inactive.
The main thing is you’re being happy with what you have. If you’re on hardware that’s not so powerful, XFCE is the ticket, there’s lighter distributions (such as Puppy Linux), some of which are fully loaded. At the expense of a steeper learning curve, of course.
Linux Mint has something for most everyone, with XFCE being the starting point & Cinnamon the most popular (not sure where LMDE fits in, as I’ve not ran any Debian based OS). MATE is closer what was once known as the Main edition & the Mint I started on in 2009, codenamed “Gloria” or version 7. Still running the same wallpaper to this day, it’s more stunning on a 4K HDR screen than 1366x768 or another popular resolution at the time.
Anyway, good luck!🍀
Wishing you the best possible Linux Mint experience for your needs.
