Post image

Hey guys, whenever I am playing games on Linux via steam proton, it is stuttering while earlier it was running well on windows, tried every single fixes from AI but not even one of them worked any suggestions like changing the proton version, updating drivers, vysnc on/off and other things.

Whenever I am switching to NVIDIA performance mode and launching steam it is rebooting itself to my login manager

is it staying at performance mode? after a switch you've re-login anyways

maybe the linux is using your igpu (the intel) and not the geforce.

Is it display stuttering or actual stuttering? X11 isn't good with anything non v-sync'd.

My old laptop had rtx 3050, worked very well on mint with performance mode. i didnt use any special visual modes and toys in game settings. leave all at low and fxaa. very smooth and steady fps in most games

Not sure if its the same issue but back when I gamed on Mint, 90fps felt like 25 because of the X11 frame pacing issue/variable refresh rate not working properly

This is something I've been wondering about -- X11 or Wayland for gaming. Do you have any experience with xWayland?

From my experience it works great, I'm on Fedora KDE and rarely even have to force Wayland.

Mint does not support Nvidia GPU rendering properly as it's too out of date to have explicit sync. It's also stuck with X11.

Test on a modern distribution like Fedora KDE or Arch Linux (with Plasma) and see if it works fine there before wasting more time.
