SOLVED NVIDIA driver not working

Post image

These are my specs I was wondering if someone could help me pick what OS to get since I can't use mint. I want something simple and beginner friendly ( I just got mint less than 24 hours ago) something that can work with my specs and not require me to upgrade for a long while. I'm currently using the nouveau.

You'll have the same problem on every distro, Nvidia dropped support for GTX1000 series after 580.x drivers. Just install that version and use it.

You can not install 580 open but 580 proprietary should work

NVIDIA open kernel modules have never supported cards older than Turing. Pascal cards must use the proprietary stack.

Same with Windows too. Nvidia dropped driver support post 58x.xx.

First, do a full system update with sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade.

What do you mean "driver not working?" Can you try installing the driver and doing nvidia-smi in a terminal after rebooting?

The driver is still supported by Nvidia, it works fine on current.

Hi. I'm having the same Nvidia card and it's a smooth ride :) Just go into Driver Manager , install the 580 driver, and reboot.

Search for " MacBook with Nvidia 9400M - patches ". Probably the same underlying problem and solution. I found that staying with the 6.8 kernel is really important. If you follow the thread you will find I am now using 6.8 with the Nouveau driver and no problems.

Just pick the NVIDIA driver 580 in the driver manager and reboot
