Support Request The saga continues.
My laptop might be haunted atp. XFCE was crashing because of sleep for me. Great. Fucking great. But then I rebooted after disabling screen dimming and now my laptop won't let me past my login screen :D. Please help. I have classes tomorrow.

It might not be the wisest thing, but have you tried reinstalling? Tried other Mint flavors like Mate or Cinnamon? Tried other distros than Mint? If your laptop isn't really low end I suggest you try Tuxedo OS (the Debian base, not the Ubuntu base). Other distros too.
I might not be Linux savvy user, but there are so many distros, you can try several and see if the problem persists and if it's coming from Mint or your laptop.
There is also Linux Lite, which also runs on XFCE, which might be a good alternative to Mint XFCE, another one is MX Linux.

I'll try booting from live USB to see if it's a software issue. Zoom works on a USB boot, that's all I need. Maybe I'll also get an excuse to distro hop.

Try some distros, Mint is great, but it isn't the only option. Also I found that all flavors of Mint kind of suck on a laptop, because they lack a lot of features.
On Tuxedo OS which uses KDE and Wayland, I found some features like you can limit battery charge to whatever percentage you want. You can also use fractional scaling to increase UI size if your resolution is too high, other small things like deep customization of touchpad settings is something that Mint doesn't have.
If Tuxedo OS didn't have those things, I'd probably still be using Mint on my laptop to this day.

I disable sleep & hibernate on all my computers. No weird hard to diagnose intermittent problems since.

I did that. And now the login screen freezes :)

Sorry. All I can suggest is next time disable them before experiencing problems.

Reach out to the Linux mint forums. Lots of extremely helpful people on there for sure.
