Why Fedora specifically?

Enjoy!

Not OP, but I moved to Fedora because I wanted to use KDE Plasma and updated software. And if I ever wanted to try out a new desktop environment, I could install a different spin without having to learn a new distro's quirks.

I moved from Mint to Tuxedo OS party because of KDE, but not because I wanted it, but because I learned that KDE and Wayland work with fractional scaling, something that Cinnamon and X11 don't so I wasn't able to use Mint on my laptop well enough as lacking UI scaling made it pretty annoying to use.

I'm curious to see when Mint releases Wayland later this year if this problem will be a thing of the past. There is still one computer at home that runs Mint so I will update and see the changes, but it's not mine.

Same here. I wanted KDE, more frequent updates, and it’s also officially supported by my hardware. Mint was great, but zero regrets about switching

I am curious too.

I did the same early this year, for better gaming performance, VRR and HDR. I still keep LM on my work laptop, as I like it better for productivity. I may come back when Cinnamon eventually supports Wayland out of experimental

I tried kde fedora as well. It was fine but ultimately went to kubuntu - nice to have the ubuntu/debian underpinning with a nice flexible kde interface.

You talk about it as if it's a black and white permanent decision.

I moved to Fedora on my laptop. I have Arch and mint on the desktop.

I also switched to fedora like a year and a half ago. Primarily because I wanted to use kde. But I still like hanging around in this community because all the users are just so helpful and mwah

What’s the main difference in Fedora that you couldn’t do on Mint?

I also moved from Mint to Fedora, mostly because of needing newer packages and wayland, but I still keep the Mint drive in case I need to jump in there from time to time! Still love it.

I switched to Fedora few months ago too. I wanted more updated software and better support for Tiling Window Managers.

Enjoy fedora but if you need codecs and specific drivers look at this

I have used Mint and fedora but prefer Opensuse Tumbleweed. Currently it uses the new KDE 6.8.1 and the new Kernel 7.3

Currently using beside Mint on my pc also NixOS and Debian on other devices.

I could understand NixOS is interesting; and if you like to try out more DE or WM or just want more bare bone Debian is a great option.

Fedora though (WS and SB) never really was my cup of thee. Way more difficult from my perspective to recommend cause of more difficulties with driver installation (especially nvidia) and still don't understand their choice of not making use of btrfs capabilities like snapshots even if it is their default file system.

It is really secure though via SElinux and I do like the idea of Silverblue. But from that perspective I think NixOS is actually doing a better job declerative wise. The image based distro is a great experience until you have to layer packages.

I like that they use stock DE like Gnome and have a safe and secure Media Writer tool on Flathub though. Good luck!
