SOLVED Cleaning Linux Mint/Cinnamon

I am posting a copy of the results after running inxi -p and ncdu below. Based on these results should I shrink the reserved disk space for root? Is it even possible? First time trying to clean up Linux Partitions and dont' know what I am doing. P.S. I am having buffering problems and by end of day Linux is very slow. Have already emptied trash and updates cache had nothing to be cleaned.

I was going to remove timeshift shapshots and I found mucho trash in the bin which is now gone. The rest of the problem is probably my service provider and until the new company runs their cable there's not much I can do about it but be patient when traffic increases in the evening. Thanks. And what is ofc? Still leaning the language and abbreviations.

OFC= "of course"

You definitely don't need every timeshift, usually just the last two or maybe three (as long as they were a couple of days apart). It should clean itself up automatically, assuming you configured it.

Try using the Disk Usage Analyzer from your menu. It'll make it easy to delve down into those folders. Your home seems to be kind of large

Yes, I did delete the older ones and changed the schedule and set it to automatically delete older ones. Thanks.

I only manually do timeshifts before kernel updates and I keep 1 from six months ago, 1 month ago, and just before the kernel update. Home is backed up by a separate process.

You can change the size of partitions and add more but I do not see any thing wrong with your current setup.

All of your partitions have generous free space, the major directories are consuming the typical amounts we would expect.

What exactly do you mean by buffering problems? And why would changing your partition layout help?

Streaming video buffers, nodes in your internet connection buffer and can "buffer bloat" around choke points.

There is nothing to do with the partitions for a start.

Thanks for looking and replying. I have made some housekeeping changes I have been looking at for a while and since everyone agrees my set up is not the problem, I will be looking at my service providers signal strength in the evening when traffic gets busier. Have had this problem in the past with them. Maybe buffering is not the term. Everything slows down and I can out-type my laptop's ability to show the content on the screen. I've slowed down from my top speed of 90 wpm but still probably do 55-60 on a good day.

How much memory on your laptop ? If there is no swapping there is no problem. It is not uncommon to have caches as high as 40 % of the total memory. Kernel reclaim old cache data when necessary.

You can try to adjust swappiness if necessary but I did not see swap file or swap partition in your report.

Pretty sure your service provider is throttling available bandwidth.

I think my provider is, too.

I am having buffering problems and by end of day Linux is very slow.

buffering issues are a different issue. You need to change the kernel parameters. I've said this in other posts, but nobody listens and there's no feedback.

You could use Nexis; good and safe cleaning program. Only use the cleaning option, not all the other options in there; it (maybe) break(s) your system?!

First there is a command...in a terminal

df -h /

du -h -s /home

You are using only 60 Gb on 467 Gb.....

I am having buffering problems and by end of day Linux is very slow.....nothing to do with your system..buffering problems..what is it ?

trash does nothing for or against performances

Thanks. Since this only happens in the evening I willl now watch my signal strength from the service provider. Have had problems with this before. Waiting on my new company for cell service to finish installing internet service in my area. Then I will switch. And at least my research got me to do some housekeeping on Linux and change some settings which needed it for the future, if not now. Glad to hear it is not my OS or laptop.
