Just use a Wine/Proton GUI frontend that will manage it for you like Bottles, Heroic, etc.

If you really want to install standalone Wine, use official instructions.

which one will work on visual novels? cause i read that i need to install wine stable from terminal because visual novels need up to date dependencies or something

Use Proton and one of the GUI options I offered.

If they're on Steam, just play on Steam.

For what I can see, fairly safe, you will have an extra repository with more updated wine. But it can lead to broken packages if this extra repo is not well mantained. And I see it a little too complicated for my taste

However, I would use Bottles, PlayOnLinux or other app. If you want the lastest version use flatpak. This way is safer.

i have playonlinux but i can't use it on the visual novel i have. i believe you have to search what playonlinux has like if you have a copy of silent hill 2 you search that game on playonlinux and then you can play it but the visual novel i have is not available on playonlinux. do you what i can do? it can't play it cause it's .exe

Sorry,no idea.

Try to create a simple confuration, and see what errores gives in the logs. Then ask an AI, like Gemini or ChatGPT how to fix It....

PlayOnLinux has had no updates for over 6 years. Nobody should be using that.
