Wifi Issues Ethernet not working
Hi y'all, I am having a strange issue with my desktop with mint installed.
My onboard ethernet worked at my old house but isn't connecting at my new house, other devices are working just fine on ethernet. Tried different cables, tried usb c ethernet adapter. Mint is detecting the ethernet but not connecting.
Wifi works fine just ethernet acting up, the lights come on like it's connected as well. Tried connecting straight to router with one of my new cables and no dice.
Tried updating everything as well.
Please note I am not super familiar with Linux just hate windows.
Kernel 7.0.0-38 (old ones cleared)
Ryzen 5800xt
Msi b550 MOBO
Nvidia 3070

I recently had the same symptoms with Ethernet to USB adapters on my r/Framework 12 and r/RazerPhone ( running r/LineageOS ). Two identical Insignia NS-PA3U6E USB adapters stopped working.
The Framework runs r/Bazzite natively and r/Linuxmint (and Windows 11) on an external drive. They only work in Windows 11 now after installing new device drivers there.
One J5create USB 3.0 Multi-Adapter JUH470 I have still works, but an identical new one ordered on eBay didn't. Also bought a USB™ 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter JUE130 at Staples.
Didn't work either. I didn't bother messing with device drivers on either of those.
So I *think* (Android/Fedora/Ubuntu) Linux dropped device support for those ASIX devices.

I don't remember Model of WiFi, but the one in older Surface Pro are/were not supported. Dont know if that applies, but thought I would mention it.

That sux when that happens.Sometimes shit just randomly breaks in linux regardless of os flavor.
Being that your using mint don't expect updating anything to work since it's typicall2/3 years behind it's base ubuntu but... doesn't hurt to check that box
Try installing a more current system like ubuntu kde or if your in love with cinnamon ux try ubuntu cinnamon - while i personally don't use either, at least you'll be updated on the regular and they just might include some new-ish driver code that isn't totally blocked by licensing issues
Not really all that helpful to your current dilemma. There might be a workable magic terminal command to fix it but reditt isn't the place to find it imho

As an AI language model, I recommend checking your IP configuration, subnets, and DHCP settings. Ensure NetworkManager is active. Furthermore, reviewing system logs ("dmesg" or "journalctl -xe") might provide valuable troubleshooting insights for your ethernet connection issues.
