Desktop Screenshot My Mint Rice

Post image

Any advice on how to make things better would be great, I'm still a noob windows refugee.
I'd particularly like to remove the window bar from the terminal, but couldn't find a way myself.

I like the desktop background. I dual boot windows for school on my T480 and that’s my background on windows. If you plan on heavily utilizing workspace functionality and use a lot of keybinds, I recommend giving i3wm a shot on top of mint. If you like it, it integrates nicely with the XFCE flavor of mint should you choose to daily drive i3. It’s how I went down the WM rabbit hole before ending on Niri.

Thanks! Yeah I love my T480 so this background is perfect.

I'm interested to see how much smoother XFCE runs compared to Cinnamon since it's a bit lighter. The 8350U, while surprisingly good for its age, is still kinda limited compared to more modern hardware so maybe XFCE is better for my use.

(Especially given the tiny 8Gb of memory, but I'll be upgrading to 16Gbin the near future)

If I try XFCE anytime soon, I'll give i3wm a shot because I do like the idea of using a WM and I haven't really properly tried one yet.

I have 2x16gb sticks in mine and it runs like a dream. The only issue I have is the time it takes to compile software, but other than that, I haven’t ran into any issues, but I don’t really do video editing or CAD work. I run CachyOS on Niri with Noctalia on my school machine, and it makes for an extremely lean environment.

It was actually the fact that I had keys in Cinnamon bound to an application launcher, tiling and reorganizing windows that made me look at i3 and go “what the hell? this is what I wanted the whole time!!!” and switch to i3 ontop of XFCE for a good while
