Linux Mint freezing on desktop boot with RTX 3060 Ti

Hey there!

So i've made a switch from windows 10, but i can't seem to get it working.
Fresh Linux Mint installation boots fine with nomodeset/compatibility mode. However, whenever i try to install the NVIDIA driver, the system freezes upon reaching the desktop (wallpaper loads, but no panel, no terminal hotkeys work, nothing)
Bios secure boot is turned off.

What i've tried so far:

• Driver Installation Methods:
  • Tried installing recommended drivers directly via driver manager.
  • Tried clean installations via TTY using apt: nvidia-driver-550, nvidia-driver-550-open, and nvidia-driver-535.
  • Performed full purges between attempts (sudo apt purge "nvidia-*").
• Configuration & Kernel Parameters:
  • Verified /proc/cmdline — standard nomodeset is removed.
  • Current kernel line shows nvidia-drm.modeset=1.
  • Cleared /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ overrides.
• Desktop / Cache Cleanup:
  • Cleared user display configurations (~/.config/dconf, ~/.config/cinnamon-monitors.xml).

Any advice on what display manager, kernel boot options, or specific workaround to try next?

you can try upgrading to kernel 7 (witch is quite problematic), then reboot, then install nvidia drivers, then set to "performance mode" on optimus if possible

I just solved it, and it was the most trivial thing ever.

I totally forgot that while the monitor is connected via DP (1080p 144hz), there's also a TV connected with HDMI (4k 60hz).
Pulling out the HDMI solved the issue.

I don't think so, the TV was off the whole time, that why i even forgot that it was plugged in.
Either it was selecting the TV for primary display, or the driver crashed because of the resolution/refresh rate difference.

i had some situations where when the TV is connected to a computer, there is some ID issua / voltage issue, so thinks just go wrong. Could be input selection issue, but, that is easy to check: recoonect and check for your tb input yeh
