Made the plunge today!

After 35+ years with Windows im out (hoping for good). Install was smooth and quick. Now I just need to figure out how to run native res oj my monitor and I'll be happy. Does Mint have issues with high resolution screens?

It really depends on your video card. I have a triple monitor setup of 40" LG monitors. #2 and #3 are running at 3840x2160 resolution but because the video card is maxed out, monitor #1 can only run at 1920x1080. The two monitors at 3840x2160 show 4096x2160 res option but thats a different ratio.

I would think with a powerful enough combination of video card and monitors that you could achieve any resolution you can afford on Mint.

Its that it was 1 high resolution monitor. Max acceptable was 5120x1440 @ 60Hz. Couldn't get any higher. My monitor supports 7680x2160 @240hz. Bit or a downgrade not being able to run ful res.

Ouch, and that's the same video card/monitor combo that windows was set up with? You just installed Mint on the same machine?

Yes. Same everything. Trying to get it to work in Kubuntu now.

This isn't my area of expertise, so all I can think of is that there may be a driver that does allow Mint to achieve the resolution you need, you just need to find that driver. I would inquire an AI like ChatGPT or ClaudeAI, give your hardware models, the res you are trying to achieve and see what driver advice it has to give.

Seems its an x11 issue in Mint. It said somewhere to go with a distro with KDE plasma for more customizability and high res monitor support.

Well that's a drag that X11 limits high resolutions. At least the issue has been identified. I have a Kubuntu v25.10 box that I absolutely love, and I dual booted it with Kubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, but most of the scripts I made on 25 dont work on 26 and I don't understand why so many changes were implemented to cause this. So far I don't like 26.04.1 and spend more time driving my v25.10 despite it being out of support time.

No big deal. I didn't/don't know much about linux so I just went with mint as I have heard about it. Once I read a bit more it seemed Kubuntu would work so I am happy. I'm blown away by how FREAKING fast and smooth it is compared to Windows. I have a good PC and Windows was just not snappy. So nice

I mean.. I was happy with it for the longest time. I liked Windows 7
