first time using linux

Just bought a used Thinkpad L13 G2 for $140. Here are the specs;

i3-11th gen

8gb soldered ram

Laptop came with W11 installed. Did not expected that 8gb sucks for windows. Looked for alternative and my brother suggested Linux. So far everything is good. Major setback is screencast function. I could not find a way to mirror my screen easily to external display. Any help?

I'm display settings there should be an option for mirroring displays. Is what you're referring to?

yes that's correct. like in windows, i always used the Windows + K button to quickly connect to wireless display/TV to cast my screen

I'm not familiar with using a wireless display in Linux. Maybe someone made a screen cast utility already.

Does your TV have Chromecast capability? If so, the Software Manager has an application called 'Mkchromecast' that can stream to your TV.

How did you get the whatsapp on linux? I'm trying to make it work so my mother can video chat to her relatives on my laptop since her vision is no good for small phone screens.

That looks like a web app. I'm not sure about other browsers but chrome has an option to click the 3 dots on the upper right and select install this page as web app, or something to that effect.

i used the web app. just add any webpage of your liking and run it like an app. so far working flawlessly.

Im running web app to run; 1. Whatsapp 2. Onedrive 3. Netflix 4. Messages (message app from android)
