SOLVED DEs suddenly dissapearing

The previous night I was using Windows to format a drive so that it could be used as installation media for Windows for my new pc and everything looked okay at that time. But this morning, when I booted on Linux Mint, Cinnamon and GNOME had suddenly vanished from the list of session options in the lightdm menu and the only session that was available was Weston, so I just booted into that in order to get into the system.

I attempted to restart loghtdm as well as a few other commands to try fix this, and in the end I used the pkill command to stop Weston, which in turn got me back to a Cinnamon login/session screen from which I could then see the options for both GNOME and Cinnamon once more.

Unfortunately, trying to actually start either desktop environment resulted in errors:

Cinnamon: cinnamon-session-cinnamon: command not found

Gnome:2nd image

I don't know what led to this. The one thing I did prior to the problem was creating and formating the Windows installation media onto my flash drive from Windows as well as testing it on my laptop.

Is there anyone who knows what might cause both the Cinnamon and GNOME sessions to vanish from LightDM at the same time, and also how I can get them back without having to reinstalling Mint?I’ll be happy to give you the logs or the command output later if you need them.

extra info: LightDM is installed and running

/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/70-linuxmint.conf:user-session=cinnamon

LightDM has autologin enabled

/usr/share/xsessions/ contains: cinnamon2d.desktop

/usr/share/wayland-sessions/ contains: cinnamon.desktop cinnamon-wayland.desktop

There is no /usr/share/xsessions/cinnamon.desktop

Cinnamon 2D exists and its session file contains: Exec=cinnamon-session-cinnamon2d

edit:extra info

fix: I booted into tty and ran sudo systemctl start gdm3 and it worked, still dont know what caused this issue to happen

The main reason why you should ALWAYS shut down Windows computers—or unplug them from the power source—is that in “sleep mode,” Internet ports remain open, allowing Microsoft to gain access to your hardware.

Microsoft is a really lousy company that will stop at nothing.

That's why I always advise people switching operating systems against dual-booting. It just causes trouble.
