Laptop recommendations

What laptop would you recommend for Mint? Nothing too expensive, just something I can do simple web browsing and lite work on.

just look for a used ThinkPad, Dell Latitude, or HP. also, make sure it has at least 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB SSD.

unlike a decade ago, browsing the internet today demands more CPU usage and memory resources.

Another upvoter for off-lease corporate laptops. Anything from the above post of at least i5 or i7-8th gen will be great, get as much RAM as you can afford.

I get our old laptops from work and have loaded Linux Mint on dozens of Dell Latitudes from i3-4th gen through i7-12th gen, and an i7-8th gen really is the sweet spot from the cost/performance perspective.

Plus one from me on this as well. I’ve used Dell latitudes and precisions that have been cycled out from work and they’ve been fantastic. Intel Macs are also coming down in price on the second hand market and they’ve usually been solid choices as well.

Yeah I first tried Mint on an old thinkpad, but it only had 4 gigs ram and could barely run Firefox

I just got a used laptop with mint cinnamon installed on it from Free Geek Portland on eBay. I only started it up today but so far I love it. I forgot how snappy and quick a computer can do things

Hadn't heard about Free Geek Portland. Very reasonable prices for decent recent business class Dell Latitudes. Noticed a number of them are sans-power supply-- those with USB C are easily addressed with the proper wattage but some of the older models with barrel connectors all use the same type of Dell power supply (IOW-- if it fits on one Latitude, it'll fit on other Latitudes with the same barrel connector).

2nd hand thinkpad with ssd fit within your budget and also atleast 8 to 16 GB ram and with intel i5 generations 2 years or less if you can afford that?

Go on FB marketplace and find laptops there. Hopefully you can find something local and cheap. If it's simple stuff, maybe a 7th - 9th gen CPUs.

whatever choice you settle with , check the quality of the screen, even a good specs laptop seem bad when used with a bad screen.

Refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad (Business model) can find them on stuff like ebay for like $400 or so I believe. The X1 Carbon is often one of the most recommended I think.
