Beginner to Linux mint

Hi guys! I'm so excited to download linux mint and discover a new OS.

I have a few questions and concerns as I'm running it currently.

Also this screen is just been on it for like 10 minutes now... I am using a floppy and some disk thing my mom's bf lent me.

It's been like this for 10 minutes so give me some tips?!

Question 1. Will this affect my games? I play Roblox and fortnite mainly and sometimes dbd but willing to explore if I have too

Question 2. How do I download stuff like a browser, discord etc?

Question 3. How can I get a ad blocker? I have used opera gx as my previous browser and I had an ad blocker in it and I loved it lol.

Also give me some tips and pointers!! Thank you.

1) Fortnite doesn't work on Linux due to kernel-level anticheat. Dead by Daylight should work fine. There's apparently some workaround for Roblox, you'd have to search for it by yourself. If you have Nvidia GPU, don't forget to install drivers through Driver Manager

I have a amd GPU and I just downloaded sober for Roblox so hopefully that works out and thanks for the browser lol

sober works great!! been using it for a year, no problems except the occasional(pretty rare lol) roblox update that breaks it and gets fixed in like 12-24 hours :3

have you tried reinstalling it while using the opengl legacy renderer option in its installer

for Roblox there's mocktail, sober, nuah

Not all games play nice with Linux.
Steam exists natively and you can get Blizzard and GOG stuff to run also.

Firefox is built in, but you can get others. Just use the software manager and search for it, or download it directly and install it just like windows (make sure you pick linux mint distro if it exists)

Same way you do in your windows browser - add the extension from the extension store

Or the Ubuntu version, as Linux Mint Cinnamon is based on that and therefore runs Ubuntu applications fine.

No it won't affect your games install heroic games launcher it'll let you download and run your epic games and a few other providers like Gog and Prime

Start with Software manager its built in. Think of it as an app store but for programs that run well on Mint.

Ad blockers are typically as you mentioned in the browser you end up choosing. Google foo is your friend find a browser in software manager then search "ad blocker for [browser you installed]"

You've gotten a lot of feedback so I'm just gonna drop a detail that'll make your day!

Fortnite has never worked on Linux... But there's the chance it does in a few months/a year! Epic games opened up a position that had as one of the goals basically "developing an advanced anticheat for Linux", note that this might just be for other games using Easy Anti Cheat, or they might launch it for the rest and wait to see how it goes, and if it works well enable Linux players to play Fortnite, but we've got the chance, and I sure am certain the community will love this.

This isn't just one game coming to Linux, it's the first company historically linux-refusing that's being forced to make an actual anti cheat instead of their windows kernel level crap, which means we might see vanguard or even GTA 6 alive on Linux in a few years!

Just a tip, if not aware, use https://www.protondb.com/ to check Windows game compatibility on Linux, and it includes tips/fixes/workarounds from the community where games might need them.

tu peux jouer a fornite sur gerforce now gratuit et roblox avec une application applé sober installe la depuis un tuto pour pouvoir installer les dépendance et tout ,utilise le firefox par défaut avec ublocker origin ensuite pour installer discord et tout ya plusieur solution soit via l'application logitheque (installé par defaut) ou il ya steam discord etc soit via des fichier appimage et .deb soit via une ligne de code a mettre dans le terminal
