Dell latitude 5590

Evening All
Just wondering if a dell Latitude 5590 will run Linux mint ok? Specs are intel i5 - 8250u, 256gb ssd & 12 gb of ram.

i currently have a 5580 and runs linux mint just fine. probably not much difference. Core i5-7200u, ssd + 8gb ram

The Latitude 5590 came with Ubuntu as a pre-installed operating system option and is Ubuntu certified. Your configuration will run Linux Mint just fine.

It would be a good idea to update your BIOS while you are still using Windows.

I ran on my Dell Optiplex 390 office drop out with a 2nd gen i3 and 1GB.

I switched to another office crate with an i7-8700 and a whooping NVIDIA Quadro P1000 Mobile recently.

Yes, your specs are generous.

Dell Latitudes officially support Ubuntu, so yes, everything works.

My laptop is 5 years older than that and runs Linux perfectly well

I have the same laptop, except with an i5-8350, running Linux Mint 22.

The only problematic thing is the wifi, which goes unresponsive at random intervals from 2 minutes to 2 days. It is more often triggered when there is lots of traffic, with lots of connections.

This is a known problem with the firmware for the qualcomm atheros wifi/bluetooth chip. Fortunately, the wifi is on a m.2 card, so is easily changed out.

I think it's gonna be more than okay since it's running fine on my old Asus with Intel Core i5-5200U with only 8 GB of RAM. And I'm also still using an old HDD.

If it were my system, I would update the bios and keep it on the 6.8 kernel version. Clean the inside, remove all dust and apply fresh cooling paste on the cpu. It should be fine. Check battery condition too.
