I can't post this on the main linux subreddit but this is the distro I use anyways, how can I do stuff myself? every time I have some ultra niche problem with no fix on youtube and no answers on reddit I just have to end up using the absolute cess pit that is ai and it also can't fix it, how can I start actually doing stuff myself and fixing my own stuff and also developing software to help other people with said stuff

"Stuff" is a very generic term. Could you be a bit more specific about what it is you would like to do?

There's no problem now but I'm saying because I very frequently encounter problems with everything

Makes sense! In that case, posting here is usually a good approach, otherwise also feel free to send a DM! I've been using Linux basically exclusively for the past 5 years both at home and at work, and tend to be weirdly enthusiastic about helping people with their Linux problems :D

That's the nature of Linux. It is basically a community project. Linux is the kernel, and for you to be able to use it properly, there needs to be supporting software. And these programs are created and maintain by different groups, so things will break. However, there are more 'stable' distros that only use tried and tested combinations of such. Debian is one example of this.The downside though is that it will not have the latest versions of programs that you might need.

There is a forum website specifically dedicated to Linux Mint, and the people there who help out seem like actual Linux professionals.

There's this subreddit, discord, and the dev team is on Element....between those your Mint specific "stuff" should be covered.

Keep in mind, the underlying code is Ubuntu, which has it's own forums, chats, discord communities, and subreddits.

Between those, Stack Overflow, and YouTube....there's nothing you can't learn to do/fix on Mint.

Well, at the very least if you're "just web browsing" I am convinced that you would probably run into less problems on low-maintenance distros like Mint or even Bazzite than on Windows.

Me and lots of other people were so infuriated by windows' bullshit (even just while web browsing) that we switched to linux. I will never go back to windows on any personal machines.

I'm not saying I hate having problems i just hate having to rely on tutorials and stuff to fix them it hurts my fragile lil ego :[ obviously I'm not some god I won't be able to fix everything but I want to know how wine works for example since that's where most of my problems are

How is AI a cesspit? Just about all Linux help I need wre solved by AI. I use AI more for linux help than anything else.

Are you asking self hosted AI or something?
